One book at a time or more?

Personally, I prefer reading one book at a time because it's easier to stay with the grip of one word movie than scattering my involvement. Know what I mean? Do you enjoy reading more than one book at a time? In this context I'm just talking about fiction.

I usually have 2 books on the go at one time i have one that i read downstairs and one that i read at night upstairs. Its so that i dont have to keep running up and downstairs to get my book when i feel like having a read. Yes i do enjoy reading them both.

I think your response hits the ultimate balance -- especially when you live in a two-story house! I'm going to start having a book with me in my purse everywhere I go since I never know when I'll have to wait. Thank you for your response.

Oh I love to read and usually only have one book on the go at one time, in fact if it is that good I read from cover to cover in a day, my daughter does too, she has read three books so far this week and she gets so engrossed if you talk to her she won't hear you and she quite often laughs out loud at them. I sometimes may start a book I really can't get into and that will be laying around and I will then start another and perhaps go back to it at a later stage, but do try to finish eventually. Ellie :D

My goodness, lots of reading going on! I love it when something strikes me funny. A bit of comic relief in an intense story -- whew! So you eventually read any book you start? I don't. If it doesn't grab me I drop it.

I don't read book anymore, I have a big e-zine dedicated to writing and so I have to read submission for that all the time and that takes up my reading for pleasure as well as work time.

For me it depends on how engrossing the book is. If it's a real page turner, I will definitely stick to one book. But I always keep a couple books on the back burner and if the first one starts to drag, I'll alternate it with another novel. I try to finish every book but some just drag more than others. Only rarely do I find a book so boring that I don't read it through. When that does happen, I avoid the author's other work.

I usually have more than one book going at a time, but I have one "main" book I concentrate on, if that makes any sense. I have a book at home, a book at work, a book in the car, etc. I generally have one book I am trying to read, and if I don't have it with me, I will fall back on the others, and read one of those.

Maybe if I just read one at a time, I'd actually get a book FINISHED! I am a multiple book girl! I also dont' read much fiction, so I am finally forcing myself to go through the Left Behind series again, because I did really enjoy that one!

It's one book for me at a time, I would like to focus my concentration in it alone. Since if I have come to read two or more, my mind would be like see-sawing in mid-air! I like to imagine story I'm reading, that way I could visualize and understand the plot..

It is of course desirable to read one book at a time.A book is to be viewed as your companion aleast for the time you hold it for yourself.

Fiction wise, always read one book at a time. This though doesn't stop me reading a factual or several factual books during the same period of time

I can only do one thing well at a time,so I only can read one book at a time or I will forget one or another. And the characters will fight in my mind. ha

I know what you mean. I would rather read only one book at a time so that I know what is going on and don't mix them up. Of course if I'm reading textbooks, that is not an option, but with fiction it is the only way to read.

I am not one of these fast readers who can read a book in a day or two, it usually takes me about a week or more, I will read a couple of chapters before I go to bed to help me sleep, I get so engrossed into the characters and story that I can't read anything else otherwise it gets complicated and you start to intermix the characters from one story to the next! So I am with you. I love detective novels and those books you need to finish one first before you start another!

Thanks for your response, wolfie. I do have a backup book in my purse if I think about it, but mainly I like to stay glued to the same story and same characters 'til the story is finished. Otherwise I lose my total involvement.

I read as many books as I can at a time. It varies from about 2-3 to about 5-6. I have no problem at all about following each story, it takes about a page for me to get back into the story.

That would be too many for me to handle -- I think whatever floats your boat is cool. Thanks for your response, Fox.
