Are some Mylotters working the system?

This is not a rant. I am just feeling discouraged and a little disappointed about some of the posts I have seen here time and time again. It seems like someone can post an article and magically receive tons of responses in no time at all. When you check you find that most of those responders are friends of the poster or friends of the responders. Now I know that the activity sortie alerts one about all new posts made by friends and wonder if that is the key. One example off the top of my head is this: I started a discussion 2 days ago about a current event. It was the only one listed that I know of and it got 2 responses. Today the exact same current event was posted with almost an exact subject title and fewer details and got 7 responses in 14 hours. How does that happen? I don't have a tremendous amount of posts as I only post (either new or response) when something catches my attention. I do notice there are more responses to a discussion like what is your favorite hair spray than to something important happening in the news and that, too. is somewhat disturbing. But, be that as it may, am I doing something wrong? Or are some people just working the system to maximize earnings?

Well, we don't have control over the members of mylot. They are free to respond to any discussion they want to. Some respond only to their friends here. Some choose only those they are interested in. Most of us are not always at mylot, so chances are, we cannot notice every post. Let's just keep on doing what is good and don't be disturbed too much by these small things. Cheer up Nova!

I always turn to discussions that my friends started first. One of the reasons that they are my friends is because I have enjoyed their previous posts and found them stimulating. I will open them, see where the discussion is leading and join in or not. I do not automatically post a response to a friend's post if I don't have anything to add. I then turn to discussions with no responses and see what is happening there. I start discussions that interest me and that I hope might grab the attention of others, I don't expect my friends to reply to them, but I'm not upset if they do. All, friend or not are welcome. I have noticed that if I post later in the day in the UK I tend to get more responses from North America. But that doesn't dissuade me from posting earlier if I have something to say. I no longer ask to be friends unless I want to send a PM. I have 4 pages of them and only about half seem to post at all. I agree with one of your other respondents that the quality is variable. "How much you earn from myLot" irritates the heck out of me. Discussions should be like yours and well made.

Thank you. I'm done with my little tantrum now and really appreciate all the words of encouragement that I received. Guess it just caught me on a really bad day. It is odd, you know, that the more interesting discussions seem to happen later in the day...even here in the U.S.

Hi Nova, I see you are fairly new on Mylot but you are also very observant. In this forum the lighter topics get more responses than topics that deal with weightier issues. There are other forums where deeper discussions are the favourite. Also, there are groups of friends that post to each others discussions. Some members are also very active and become well known and develop a following. If you enjoy Mylot keep on posting and people will get interested in your topics. In the meantime be positive and have fun. I follow the same routine when I sign on (almost every day). I check: discussions from my friends top discussions discussions from my interests hot topics discussions with no responses new user discussions in that order. I only respond to those discussions where I feel I can contribute something or the discussion interests me. I hope you enjoy being part of the Mylot community.

I follow almost the same routine, except discussions from my friends and discussions from my interests are at the bottom of my list. I do really enjoy it here and will keep posting. Thanks

THis is one of the many reasons the quality of Mylot has degenerated over the past year or so. It's just not the same quality of discussion or even user any more.

I wasn't here a year ago, but I must agree that an awful lot of them are too silly. Have a great day.

It's just one of those days, the one you could call better luck next time. I suggest that you look for more friends here, since the more the merrier. With that, you could have lots of people that could notice your post n matter what topic it was all about. Also, don't feel disappointed and discouraged simply by that experience. I too have experienced it, some also have and still does.. Just be optimistic, I can see that you're still relatively new here..

Yes, you are right, I am still pretty new. I think I was just having a bad day and little things were more annoying than usual. Thanks

Im new to the site but over the last few days I have read topics about how people have not been able to respond to topics as there was something wrong with the site. I personally haven't expierenced any troubles and like the previous respondant said " sometimes people only answer regarding there interests". maybe as you made your post 1st it had slipped off the front page of most recent topics.....add me as your friend, we will work the system together lol

It's not really that they're working the system - it's just that they will have notify turned on for their friends discussions. There are some people that only ever respond to their friends discussions anyway - or it seems that's what they do! Personally although I look for my friends discussions I won't respond to them unless I actually have something to say on the subject and I tend to wander all over the place. I don't just stick to the same group of people all the time. So it's not that you're doing anything wrong, some discussions take off while others don't and unfortunately the trivial ones will always end up getting more responses because they're easier to answer.

You are probably right. I only respond to things that get my attention. I can't bring myself to post really trivial things. I should just suck it up and keep doing what I'm doing. Let the chips fall where they may. Thanks, have a great day.

It beats me how they do it. I have somewhere in the region of 300 friends. I know they're not all active but I never get more than about thirty to forty responses, and yesterday, or the day before, I posted a discussion that has only one response. I just don't know how they do it. It irks me! Brightest Blessings.

I admit it can be frustrating sometimes. I had one sit there 6 days without one response so I asked a friend to respond just to get it off my unresolved list. lol

I do think that some of the myLotters here are very popular. I have no idea why, since we all are working just as hard, but even when they post inane subjects they get tons of responses. I know there are some interests that have a great following, and if you are a big talker, and make very long posts on animal rights, you will get a lot of posts, also so if you talk about women's rights, and if you are politically correct, you will get a lot of responses. So for us who are not politically correct, not a friend to everyone no matter what, are not for the status quo, or in my case, a Christian who believes God is in control, and not for Mother Earth, we have to make as much friends as possible who share some of our views. I do not know about you, but the more friends you have, the more responses you will get. Oh and keep on posting responsible posts. I am not interested in hair spray.

Thanks. I don't pay attention to what interest category posts are in (which is sometimes not a brilliant idea) but respond to whatever sounds interesting to me at the time. I don't pay attention to hair spray surveys either. haha

You are right.i too have felt the same way about the response that some people in mylot are getting, when compared to that of mine, and as you said yours. I really feel that my discussion was not up to the mark and i always try to come up with good topic and still i dont get the half respose in two to therr days that they they get in around five to six hours.i always kept wondering how they did that.now that you have mentioned it i too feels the same hey you got any way to increase our responses???????

Oh well, I guess we just keep trying. The fun part is really just chatting about things that interest me and not really the earnings anyway. I know we are never going to fund that new Rolls Royce on these earnings. lol Maybe we should start a discussion like "what's your favorite shade of lipstick" to get more responses. NOT

You also have to remember that people get on at different times of the day and that just might have been the case. I'm sure that the friends that people have might be part of it too, but still. Just possibly try to time your discussions better and keep on posting. Don't really focus on which discussions are getting the most responses or anything. Just keep on posting and enjoying Mylot and you'll reach payout in no time!

It all depends on how someone finds the discussion to respond to. If most people look at the sortie, the person with more friends is obviously going to have more responses, as more people will be viewing it in the first place. I see you only have four friends listed, so you will generate very little traffic that way. I look at the discussion icons on the left of my page a lot of times, but not everyone 'works' myLot the same. Add more friends. I guarantee it will help increase your responses.

Don't worry I'm a newbie too, you can add me as a friend too and I will try to respond to your discussions. I have only posted two myself.... I can't always think of something that I think people would like to respond to and when I do someone else has already done it recently so I don't bother. Anyway, happy to be a friend. Keep postin'

Perhaps you can make more responses than start discussions. Slowly you will get responses. Never lose heart so quickly. Don't expect to see fast ticking of earnings so early. I am a member for the past one year and my progress is pretty slow. i have not got my first payment so far. Only , now I am much more active than what I was earlier. But I have patiently written lenghty responses. Once you cross 500 may be it can change for the better,

I am not really so concerned about the earnings. It's nice to earn money for doing something you just enjoy, but I know it is never going to make me rich. Just some days are more frustrating than others. I will keep posting. Maybe we can fund that trip to Hawaii on the earnings. Haha

Keys to this is: Lots of friends who 'follow' your discussions Discussions that a wide variety can respond to Very seldom to I respond to hair spray discussions but then seldom do I respond to 'news' discussions, particularly politics or anything like that.

Hi nova1945, I am in agreement with you that it is quite disturbing that discussions about fave hair spray seem to attract more posts than topics started about current news events.

I think it all depends on how many friends you have and if they have their notifications turned on. Alot of peple respond to their friends replies and topics by turning on their notifications.

I really do not know anything about this, I'm relatively new here. Maybe part of what you believe in might be true, if you have a lot of friends here, chances are you'd get a lot of response.
