Peach Dump Cake for Dessert

Last night we had my Mom, brother, SIL and niece over for dinner. We had a venison roast, roasted chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, cauliflower, salad and a peach dump cake for dessert. When everyone arrived they checked out the buffet we had set up on the counter. The dump cake raised some eyebrows. I have to say that it disappointed me when I turned it on the serving platter. It held true to its name and really looked like someone dumped it on the plate. The dinner went well. Everyone enjoyed the meal and there wasn't a morsel of chicken left and only one slice of the venison was remaining on the platter. Then came dessert and coffee. I served the dessert on paper plates, per my mother's request, even though we have a dish washer! I am happy to report that there wasn't a crumb left! My mother was happy to receive the remaining serving and gobbled it down quickly. Here is the recipe that I found on the internet. It uses a boxed yellow cake mix, 1 large can of sliced peaches, 1/2 cup butter and cinnamon. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Pour the peaches along with the juice or syrup into an 8x12 pan that has been sprayed with a non-stick spray. Sprinkle cinnamon over peaches. Top with cake mix and pat firmly. Grate a stick (1/2 cup) of butter over cake mix. Sprinkle cinnamon over top of butter. Bake for 35-40 minutes. I would serve this straight from the pan while it is still warm. Top with whipped cream or vanilla ice-cream if you so desire. Remember, if it doesn't look appealing to the eye, give it a try, it will surprise you. This dessert ended up as one that I will most certainly try again, despite how it looked!

I've done something similar, but with cherry pie filling. It is awesome! Same thing - pour the cherry pie filling on bottom, sprinkle cake mix on top, dab butter of the whole thing and bake for a bit. It's superb with vanilla ice cream, and it's very sweet. The sweet ice cream and cake mix go very well with the tartness of the cherries. I've sprinkled walnuts on it too and that adds a bit more crunch.

I was thinking about using pie filling too. Knowing that someone has already tried it, I know that it is something that I will be doing too. Love cherries and adding the walnuts to the top would be nummy! Thanks for the idea!

I've seen the recipe floating around several times, but I tried it for the first time maybe 15-20 yrs ago. Now you've got me wanting some. Need to see what I have in the pantry.

Sounds absolutely delicious. I wonder if a yellow cake could be substituted with butter cake? I wonder why you add the butter and cinnamon at the end? I've added this to my recipe file thankyou elusive.

That's the best feeling when everyone loves your food and it's all gobbled up. Although, it's also nice to have a piece left over so you can nibble later. ;)

That last piece that was sitting on the plate was being eyed by my mother. When I asked her if she would like the last piece she jumped at the chance. You could see the disappointed look on the faces of the others at the table who were more than likely hoping she would pass on it so they could have it!

I would have eaten everything you supplied, except the venison. Hmm, I love roast chicken & garlic mashed potatoes. I love peaches too. That recipe sounds like it has a good combination of ingredients & I could definitely handle having cream with it.

there is a dump cake recipe that my mother made for my birthday when I was 10 and it has been likely my favorite cake ever since - that one uses cherries and pineapple. I suspect that this peach one is just as delightful! now I have to decide between this and pavlova for Easter Dessert.... I am thinking this is more doable in my hands!

Wow that sounds like a lovely meal you did, and that dessert sounds just gorgeous, I will definately be giving that one a try. Its nice that everyone ate all what you had made, I think its the best part when all the plates are cleared, you do not feel like you have wasted your time then.
