I know theres people out there that sleep on the couch for naps or even at night for the whole night. And people that have TVs in their bedrooms. For those people that do have TV's in their sleep areas... Do you turn the tv off when you go to sleep, fall asleep with the tv on and wake up later to turn it off or leave it on all the time. I myself turn it off when i sleep. My boyfriend well he doesnt turn it off ever. If i'm there i turn it off but it seems to end up back on sometime during the night.

I don't sleep well when the tv is on all night. I think my brain can't shut off with all of the background noise going on. My husband can't sleep with the tv off so we are constantly bickering over whether to shut it off or leave it on. lol

I end up with really weird dreams if the tv is on. I figure im seeing the light changes through my eyelids and the sounds are adding to my dreams.

Hello Saundyl, At night, I usually fall asleep watching the TV but I program it to turn it self off after 30 minutes or 1 hour. If I don't do this I wake up around 4-5 AM and I turn it off. But this happens very rarely, when I fall asleep with out noticing and I don't have time to program it. Take care and have a great day, ScarFace.

so many people have mentioned auto timers for turning the tv off..are they on the tv itself or one of the ones you plug into your outlets?

We always watch tv before we go to sleep. We have a tv in our bedroom. We do fall asleep watching tv! So I usually wake up in the middle of the night to turn the tv off. Sometimes, I get really tired during the day and I tend to fall asleep real soundly. When this happens, it would be morning before I could turn it off.

I have a television in my bedroom, and I leave it on all night. I usually turn the volume way, way down so that I hear something, but can't actually make a sense of what is being said. It is the white noise I think that I like, and the little bit of light the television throws off, so it's not pitch black if I get up in the night and need to try to navigate my way to the bathroom or the back door to let my dog in or out. Part of it may also be, that I don't feel so alone, or secluded.

wish I could sleep like that! - sleeping cat
Before I left my husband, I had a habit of sleeping on the sofa with the TV on. Usually I watched one of the cable news networks until I fell asleep. When I finally moved out, I noted that it was almost impossible for me to sleep without the TV on. Here I don't have any cable or satellite, so I'm at the mercy of whatever my local channels want to broadcast. Sometimes I'm falling asleep to infomercials praising the benefits of leg exercisers or food choppers. It's probably why I have so many weird dreams about shopping.

I don't watch TV that much and I don't have a TV in my bedroom. On the rare occasions that I do sit down to watch something I do tend to fall asleep though! I couldn't sleep for long with the TV on in the background though and certainly I couldn't sleep with it left on all night. I'm pretty sure I would keep waking up, not so much for the noise but because of the light flickering.

When i am awake till late in the night and watching tv i simply set a timer to switch off my tv. I would then sleep as and when i need to and the tv would switch off automatically as per the set timer.

I have the best intentions of watching TV in bed, but always end up falling asleep. I am such a heavy sleeper that no matter what type of loud, obnxious stuff plays on TV, I am always able to sleep through it.

i turn the TV off and any other light or appliance that's on before i go to sleep. It's pretty irresponsible to keep them on when nobody's using them because (1) you risk having higher electricity consumption and will have to pay much more for electric bill, (2) you will be wasting precious energy which can be better used somewhere else, (3) you're not being environmentally concerned about wasted power consumption. Some people use the TV to help themselves get some sleep, but i suggest if while watching TV you suddenly get sleepy already, turn it off before you fall asleep.

leaving things run vs turning them off definitly makes a difference in the power bills one has to pay. Even a computer running all the time makes a difference despite hibernation etc.

I prefer total quiet when I'm trying to sleep. However, my husband is one of those people who have to have the tv on. The best thing that I can do is leave the jazz station on. This way I don't have loud talking or interesting tv shows to distract me from sleeping.

i like quiet or just the sounds of nature. Visiting a city is hard on my sleep...all those ambulance sirens and cars going past the windows and people outside...I'm just used to the occasional car going past my place during the night...and cows or birds and frogs stuff like that

I can not sleep with the TV on and I would not like somebody to sleep close to me with the TV on! I think it is important to have a good sleep during the night, and a sound of the TV disturbs my sleep and makes me feel stressed the next day.

i turn off the tv first before going to sleep. that was always my mother's advice that before we sleep, we should turn off and unplug some of the electronics that are not using. in that way we can help save electricity bills.

I always turn on the TV as soon as I enter the bedroom. See I'm a little afraid of the noises and it helps me relax for a good night sleep!

It happened several times. Particularly when I come back late, and after dinner, if I am watching a movie or serial, if th proceedings happen to be dull, it drags me to sleep. My son or my wife switches it off if they hear the noise/voice from tv.

I've watched movies and fallen asleep during them only to watch them later and think i had seen a certain part because the words or sounds were familiar.

It is no doubt that I will turn it off,as I will not sleep if the TV is on.It seems that any bigger noisiness will make me wake. However my roommate often sleep with TV is on,and I will turn it off.I wonder if something exist can prevent us from noisiness when we sleep at night.

I have never been able to sleep withe the TV on...it drives me nuts! If the TV is on when I go to sleep, whatever is on when I nod off gets incorporated into my dreams and sometimes that can be scary...LOL

I usually turn the volume down really low, and we have the tv high up on the wall on one of those stand thins, so it doubles as a night light, as at the moment, bedroom is a danger zone, sorting all clothes, laundry gets left in our room so its piled high at the moment till I can get to it. It actually puts out better light than a night light which would normally be low down somewhere

I woke up this morning and the TV wa son and I asked my husband and he said he fell asleep watching it last night. This isn't normal tough - we normally do turn off the TV in the bedroom before we go to sleep at night.
