Did you ever have a paper route as a child, does you child have one now? I was a girl so I didn't have one, but my son did at 11 it lasted two weeks then he didn't want to do it anymore, I took the route over and made some much needed money for the household. now there are no more paper routes for kids in montreal, they are all done by adults with cars to drive around much larger areas than can be done by foot. Did you or husband, father, brother etc ever have a paper route, do your children? what did they do with that money? is it safe in your area for kids to be doing paper routes?

Well I did not have a paper round either, I was not allowed to, plus I made a fair bit of pocket money helping my parents out in the pub they had so I did not really need one. My son tried a paper round out when he turned 13, he had to be at the shop for about 6am -6.30 am to deliver papers before he went to school, he lasted a week and was sacked he he! The first morning he did it, it was absolutely pouring it down with rain, he got soaked and he was ill for a couple of days after so he had a day off. Then he did another 2 days and then at the end of his first week they said that they did not think he was suitable for the job. He was fine about it, he did not want it anyway, but we often laugh at him for being a paper boy and getting sacked.

yep paper routes seem easy not much thinking but they are hard, lugging those papers walking up stairs, getting up so early in the morning and in all kinds of weather at that.

I never had a paper route, because I could never walk that far, and my vision isn't that good. It's hard enough to see during the daytime, let alone at night, so unlike a lot of kids, I never got a paper route.

Nobody did the paper route in my family. Usually papers are sold on news stands. Some newspaper boys sell it on the streets as well to vehicles at a stop.I saw a man riding his bike and delivers papers around the neighborhood but rarely see him now.

I had a paper route for about 6 months when I was about 12. I quit when I got into junior high school. My son is only 8, so he would be too young for a paper route even if they had them around here.

i remember when i was like 16 yrs old, a paperroute was the coolest thing in the world, you could stay up all night delivering news papers and sleep all day just becuase you have a reason becuase you work at night til the early morning. Now tell me wouldnt that be the job to do or what? i mean it doesnt pay that much but it gets you off the couch and off the computer and have a little freedom to walk around at night or drive to mailboxes roaming the streets glaring at the moon and stars...it was a dream come true for me. Some people wouldnt have time for it but if your kids ever ask for a paper route job they'll love the excitement. its kinda boring sometimes but its a blast after a few days. :D

No but my older brother did. It wasn't till he was older though like 8 years ago. We helped him sometimes. He would drive, my mom would hang them on the mail boxes or thow them where they were needed and I sat in the back seat rolling the papers and stuffing them in plastic bags as we went along. He never paid us or give us anything. He also had my grandma and grandpa out doing it as well before they became ill since he lived with them at the time. He did buy them dinner atleast. And another time my mom and sometimes me if I was visiting would get up early like 5 in the morning and help her friend out by rolling them and stuffing them in bags and mom went on the route with her if I wasn't there.

Me and my father used to deliver the local free paper in our area and it was every Wednesday night that we went out and delivered, the papers were quite thick and we had leaflets as well to post, we got paid extra for the leaflets. We had to go out in all weathers, I remember I had my own trolley and I was proud of that, it was hard work but enjoyable and it gave me extra pocket money, in those days you never had the worries you do now about society etc. I think we did the paperround for about three years in total.

I had one when I was about 15 and had it for over a year. My brother had one also. I never had one late or missed paper, either. I had to collect the money for the paper myself, too, and pay for my papers out of it and keep the rest. But, I moved out of the area, so I couldn't keep the job. And, right about the time I moved out, newspaper companies weren't allowing kids to deliver papers anymore unless they were over 18 and had a driver's license. Now, just about all the papers in our region have those requirements, so it's no longer a way for kids to make money.

I grew up in the country, my neighbors was miles apart from each other, so a paper route would be insane. My kids isn't old enough or do kids do it anymore. Now people drive around and throw them on your drive way. Our neighborhood is safe for a paper route if they still had them around here. I don't know if my husband had one or had that in his neighborhood or not.

My brother delivered papers as an adult. You start at 3 in the morning to get your papers together. I had to do it for him a couple of times when he was a bit under the weather. It didn't help that I was just starting to drive a stick shift!! I guess it depends on the area that you live in. Where I live in Scotland, we do have a paper boy. He either does his round on foot or on his bicycle. So, the old fashioned paper routes are still alive and well here. The one thing that gets me is, they don't deliver the sunday papers, you have to go to the store to pick up your reserved copy. Is it safe here for kids to have paper routes? Yes, it is.

I didn't. We didn't live in an area where the houses were close enough for me to do so. We lived in the country and the homes were pretty far apart. My daughter doesn't have one either because of the same thing. she does have a part-time job though at a convenience store. I used to do a paper route for my aunt when they went on vacation but I deleivered the newspapers by vehicle. I think it is too unsafe for children to walk door to door these days.

I done a morning paper round at the age of 13 until i was 16 i also did an evening one once a week as well. Now my two teenage sons, who are 15 and 16 both do morning paper rounds. My brother did attempt to do an evening paper round but soon gave it up so my mum took it over. Im lucky it is safe for my children. My two sons will usually save thier money or spend it on the latest cd or video game. Here in the uk we have both adults and children doing paper rounds but children are not allowed to do a paper round until they are 13.
