Yes, we have no bananas, we have no bananas today!

That's what I'm singing right now. I was at the grocery store the other day and saw vanilla wafers sitting there and said hmmm, banana pudding. I hadn't made it in probably a couple of years so yea, that sounds good for dessert. I picked up the cookies, made sure I had enough milk, grabbed both vanilla and banana flavored pudding mix and I was good to go. Or so I thought ... I get to the front of the store, ready to grab some 'nanners from the produce section and proceed to check out. Excuse me? Not a single banana to be had in the whole store - say it isn't so! So my lonely little vanilla wafers and pudding mix are sitting in the cupboard until the next trip to town. How sad ... Has this happened to you? You have your heart set on fixing something, wanting it so bad that you can think of nothing else? Then either you forgot one crucial ingredient or the store didn't have it? Arggghhhh ....

It is typical that is, I have had it happen to me a couple of times and I get so annoyed, the shop always seems to have plenty in until I want it. I always know too, as soon as I get to the supermarket I think to myself I bet they have not got any, and usually they have not!

What is funny about this is that I've never, ever seen a store not have ANY bananas at all. And of course it had to happen the one time I really needed them! I haven't bought bananas in a couple of months.

I know that is crazy! When these things happen to me I always say to my hubby have those upstairs got nothing better to do than see how they can make my day go wrong!

Yes...though I have to admit it is usually me forgetting something. I'd have to put wafers next to bananas on the list for the next trip, though...the ones on the my shelf would never last until the next trip to the store. ;) They call out your name, you know...shhh...maybe they won't think you're home.

You know, that may be a problem too. I've got this on the brain so I might end up opening the cookies and trying to satisfy the craving. By the time they have bananas in the store, I won't want any of it anymore.

There is a big sign up at our store stating the weather is the cause of no bananas. I certainly was disappointed, as love to eat them. I was going to make banana muffins on Monday, but that didn't happen. I had to settle for apple muffins, which didn't go over well in my house.

Ah, maybe that was it then. I know when I was at the other store earlier, I didn't buy them there because they were VERY green.

Funny you should mention, no bananas. I went to the store myself and always buy bananas cause they are so good for preventing muscle cramps and I went to the banana place and just like you, no bananas at all. I went and did the rest of my shopping and came back, just knowing there would be out, but no, no bananas. So know what you were going through. And I live 15 miles from the grocery store, so it isn't like I could just go back the next day. One thing that you have accomplished is that now everyone wants to fix banana pudding and so we will probably all be out of bananas again at the grocery story.

Yep, I live 10 miles away too so I won't be running back out there just for bananas. I wonder if it does have something to do with the crop being spoiled or something? It's odd that several of us can't find them and yes, of course now we all want some!

That sounds like about how things would go for me. I have went to make something and been out of one thing luckily the grocery store is only a half a block away so I usually just send my son over to get what I need. Bannana pudding sounds really good right now!

This usually happens right before a major storm or a holiday and we are late..Like for Easter, I almost missed out on getting peeps, I got them the Monday after Easter at the last store we checked.. As for the missing bananas, maybe my son was there.. When my husband brings home bananas, if anyone wants one, they have to hide one away or my son will eat them up..

Are you sure my son wasn't involved? Because my husband just picked up a big bunch last night and now there is only 3 left..

LOL ... A couple of other people said that their stores were out too, so I think it may have been an issue with the crop or something. I haven't been back and looked since.

Our local WalMart runs out most Tuesdays! Tuesdays is commonly known in-store as "Banana Day" Up until the last few weeks we always had really cheap bananas on Tuesdays (19c). The current price increases have stopped this practice but we still match to the cheapest in the area (25c. When they were always on sale Tuesdays it brought out all the old folk who bought 2/3/4 bunches of them and at some point late afternoon/evening we would always run out.

You could always take those ingredients and make a 'fake' trifle. I did that once with nill wafers and pudding. I added fresh fruit and layered it all in a bowl. Let is sit a few hours and the fruit juice soaks into the wafers. Add whip cream on top and it is SUPER yummy. I wanted to make trifle with the traditional ladies fingers and custard but couldn't find either where I was living so I did that instead. All is not lost!

I tried to come up with something else, but had nothing in the house that I thought would work. Its ok, the vanilla wafers are gone now too. Will have to buy more when I find the bananas.

I think that is odd they didn't have any banana's Marie Anne. Hmmmm I wonder what happened to them. I hate that to, when you have your heart set on something and then thru no fault of your own, you are unable to have it. Frustrating for sure. A Murphys Law kind of thing, I would say. It had been some time since it has happened to me, but I know just what you are talking about. Hope you enjoy that pudding when you finaly are able to get those banana's.

We have this problem all the time at my job. I work for Wal-Mart, and every night around 4am we get a skid of banana boxes in. The skid usually has so many big banana boxes that it's clear above my own head, and I'm 5'5, and I can't reach the top box. It's also extremely heavy, as each box weighs about 50lbs. On the weekends, we sometimes get a skid and a half, but by around 8pm everynight, we run out of bananas. It's a constant problem in our store, and I think they should just up the order, but they don't. There are tons of complaints each night because of this. I personally complain about it myself, because sometimes when I get into work around 9:30pm, I want a banana to have for my lunch break around 2:30am. I rarely ever get to have a banana for break, unless I come in really early and get my banana, or end up going to another store. I'm sorry you didn't get to make your banana pudding, I'm sure it would have been great. I too want to make some now, because I absolutly LOVE banana pudding, yum. Thanks for the idea! I hope I'll be able to wrestle some bananas out of some other person's hands at work, because I know the banana table will most likely be empty!

Jenni, this was at WalMart too, and I've never noticed it before. I love bananas, but I have a bad habit of leaving them too long and they go to waste. I love banana nut bread too, but sometimes it's even too late for that, if you know what I mean. So this one time I specifically wanted bananas and they didn't have any - it was just odd, ya know? And now of course the vanilla wafers are gone too.

Your lonely little vanilla wafers are VERY VERY lonely now. I ate most of them with a glass of milk last night. Make sure you add vanilla wafers to he shopping list or your next singing gig will be yes we have no vanilla wafers to go along with the non bananas.

oh, how disappointing. It has happened from time to time when I get my heart and my stomach all prepared to make something even get started in the process to find we do not have a crucial ingredient. it really irks me because I may have bought that ingredient anticipating making this dish and someone consumed it sneakily! it could be milk or chocolate chips or some sort of nut. I think, though, if it was bananas and I was in town I would have gone to another store to buy them - if another store existed.

We were already tired and at the end of our shopping/errand day and it would have meant a stop in another direction. We just wanted to go home! I'll get them somewhere on my next trip. I might have to go out today for something else.

The pudding is still on the shelf, waiting on bananas. I'm 10 miles from town so I won't be going again until I can combine the trip with something else. I've searched all sorts of recipes online to find something else to do with the cookies, but not having any luck.

That has happened to me many times. I usually stock most of the provisions. Somethings will be there remaining from the last month's provisions. So I buy less of that quantity or completely leave that out for the month. Once I wanted to make biriyani. My daughter was coming with her husband. He had requested that particularly. I thought I had basmathi rice left at home, so bought everything else and came home to find less amount of rice remaining. Oh God I had to rush my husband to the shop to get some for me, luckily they were coming only the next day. These are notin our hands. We'll go thinking to buy something but end up buying something instead. All the best

I've been doing better with keeping a list on the refrigerator, but I didn't do it the last time I went shopping either. I DID remember the bananas, but there weren't any to be had. I also DID forget to get a few other things, though, so I'v got that list on the fridge now.

I hope it does! I can't remember how I used to make it. I think there was something besides pudding in it, but I can't remember. Something sweeter and thicker. Condensed milk, perhaps?
