Cellphones in school banned??? Do you agree?

The area I live in has banned cellphones from school. I do NOT agree with this. Think about the Columbine and VT shooting. Thank God some of the kids had phones. I totally agree that they should ONLY be used in cases of emergency only. They should not even be powered on. I just dont understand how they think it is fair to have this rule. Then to top it off, if the kids are caught with them, they take the phones from them and parents are only allowed to get them back on 2 set days per month. The phone doesnt even have to be on... if you are seen with it, its gone. Do you think this is fair?

well this is a human privacy to have a cellphone what if something urgent happened with u and somebody wanted to inform u of what happened ........ but using cellphones in the class rooms should be prohibited because it intercepts the educational process and also to be set on the silent mode during the class ..... thats what i think!!!!!!

I think cell phones shouldnt be allowed to be used in class...the ringers turned off but They shouldnt be banned completely. Like in a movie theatre show some respect for the people around trying to learn and they wont be a problem. When they are left in the lockers they should also have the ringers off because people in classrooms or the libraries can hear them and be disturbed. If the phones are muted or off it shouldnt be an issue. I can totally see confiscating the phones if the student uses them in class time. But in emergencies or during breaks it should be a nonissue. BUT the phones should be returned to the parent or the student in time. The set dates for return of the phone kind of makes sense. It limits the interruptions of the teachers/principals work if theres only a certain time it can be retrieved but...it should be allowed that other arrangements to get it back could be made.

I feel that children should not be allowed to be talking, texting, etc. But I do feel they should be allowed to have them off and in a book bag until after school. On buses the ringer should be silenced to prevent distractions.

Did the Authorities notify you why the ban was being put in place? I've read some of these zero tolerance in school stories and they mostly strike me as absurd..If they don't want ringtones going off in class, conversations interrupting classes, texting messaging rather than paying attention, fair enough..forbid such activities with the consequence of confiscation. Searching bags and confiscating phones that are off seems a bit much..by the way..have you heard of "Mosquito ringtones"? Our ears become less sensitive as we get older..School age kids can hear higher Frequencies that their parents (Or Teachers) can no longer hear..so there's a Market for these tones for kids-the phone could be ringing, and you as a teacher wouldn't hear it..

maybe not ban, but just regulate the students from using their cellphones. Since there are times when there are emergency situations that these students may encounter on their way home and i think it would help them notify their parents/guardians on their whereabouts.

i don't agree with that also. what if the family of the child has an emergency and wanted them to contact her/him? i guess that's a stupid rule if they wanna implement it on school

I know this girl who got hers taken away and she didnt even have the battery in it. Some little rats told on her. my understandin was she had it because of a family emergency. And now she has to wait 2 weeks to get it back. JMHO but they'd never have gotten mine from me. My mama taught me not to lie but that teacher was going on what a student said. i would have told him no.

No, however who's to know when a phone is on or off besides the student? Teachers aren't gonna constantly check to make sure the phone is off. I don't agree that they should be completely banned or taken away because first off: What if there's an emergency at the school or at home and you need to be contacted? And what if they take it away and someone else's parents go to claim a phone and they purposely claim the wrong one. I'd be fuuming, for sure I'd be pressing charges against the school making them buy me a new phone.

I think for me no.. maybe the teachers can ask for the cellphone in one corner just in case theres an emergency of course i want my family members know whats happening around.. As long as it doesnt destruct the learning that is alright. ANd of course examination days cellphones must be banned it must be placed in a corner and can get after school

I am fully against using cellphones by kids. Though its a big boom to our generation but it doesn't mean that they misuse the technology. Parents really need careful attention on the chidren wht exactly they are going. Parents only can teach the merits and demirts of this tecnology otherwise no one can stop them.

Yes, it is fair. Kids are using cell phones to text and cheat on exams and etc. God knows this country has a poor enough education system let alone letting them cheat on the little bit they might learn. Not only that it is not social hour. They are there to be educated. My job has the same rule about cell phones and if there is an emergency then there are other lines to be used.

One other thing to consider, some kids use them to cheat. they can type notes into them and then sneak a peek at it. They can also text each other the answers. They are kids after all and kids will always find a way to be sneaky. Not all kids of course, but many of them. But I still think that the total ban that you described is far too strict.

In my opinion, they must have some good reasons to set such a strict rule. There is no pros and cons in this case. I think the parents should voice out or discuss with the teachers for a better solution.

no it is really not fair! cellphones are important in communication. and kids need that to call their parents and stuff. i agree that they should only be used when really needed. but banning them is unfair! students just need the right discipline. but phones shouldn't be banned.

This is made for using - Utilise the useful inventions
Dear friend,I do not hope it is a good ideas to ban cell phones. The authorities could keep certain restrictions like please switch off in class, or in office etc. But the positive side of this advancement in technology is be utilized more positively and the in case the parents or teachers too could contact those students at any time if they have a cell phone in case of emergency too. Banning cell phones may not be a good if the students too may go for other means to use it which may give more worse as these advancement in technology cannot be stopped.
