I know Linux is getting popular but still Windows rules. In my view linux is better but its not gaining popularity beacause of mindset created by Microsoft. I mean people expect linux to be like windows. When I installed I did feel uncomfortable but then I am used to that. Linux is getting more user-friendly every version. So do which linux do you like?

hey all~ my family and i, and a great deal of my friends in fact, love Ubuntu Linux....we HATE windows in fact, we only use it if absolutley neccesary...lol i think with some big manufacturere (pc) now offering linux that it will become more popular and will continue as the myth of how hard it is is dispelled :) ~j

ubuntu. I prefer ubuntu because its easy to use, user friendly and the online community support is tremendous. I feel that linux is not getting popular because people have this perception that linux is difficult to use, but that time has gone past, now linux has a substitute for every windows software. Linux visual effects are unmatchable even by vista and that too with minimum resources.

I agree with you Prash. I love ubuntu and I think its the best user friendly distro of all time. Linux is getting popular but still didn't break into the masses. People fell that linux is very tough and complicated and meant only for computer geeks. Alhthough I am not able to use visual effects of ubuntu as my graphics aren't compatible. Yes the visual effects are cool as compared even to windows vista.

Ubuntu is really Great! I am a programmer. I can write program very well on Ubuntu but not on Windows. I like the console. The shell is powerful. What's more, the GUI is as pretty as Vista and Mac. Ubuntu is free. So why not use it? LOL

My current fave is Linux Mint ! I really like it .I t was easiest to set up and no headaches. However I am also a big fan of distros based on Slackware such as Vector and Zenwalk and Wolvix for their speed.A little bit more learning but performance and stability is great!PclinuxOS is another i like a lot!

My favourite distribution is Mandriva, but I have also used Ubuntu and Xandros in the recent past. The popularity of Windows is due to the early user interface which made Windows an easy to use operating system while Linux was still mostly command line. I realise that this is no longer the case, but the impression still remains in many people's minds. A few computer manufacturers have started offering Linux on the machines, though it will need to become a more common practice before Linux gains the level of usage that it deserves.

I feel that linux is not gaining popularity because most people have never heard of it or that they are too lazy for it. My favorite(s) are slackware, arch linux and debian. Slackware for its simplicity, arch for its package management system and debian for the ease of use.
