Crockpot, best invention since sliced bread

I just adore having my crockpot. I decided today to do homemade spaghetti and meatballs, and I started them this morning in the crockpot. I was just thinking to myself how very far behind I am on everything I want to do, and have so little time to catch up, but then I remembered that I don't have to cook dinner because It's in the crockpot! All I have to do is heat the garlic bread and voila, dinner is served! I added my crockpot spaghetti sauce recipe to my blog too, it's so inexpensive and makes so much!

I couldn't agree with you more KatsMeow. Crockpots, or slow cookers as we generally call them in the UK, are absolutely fabulous. I don't use mine so much now as i'm here to cook dinner, but I used to use mine at least a couple of times a week. On a cold winter's evening when it's already dark when you get home, it's particualrly good to walk in the front door to the smell of a stew or casserole bubbling away. I used to put my bread machine on the timer too, and have fresh hot bread ready to eat with dinner too. Now that really is luxury! My favourite slow cooker recipes all use cheap cuts of meat as cooking them slowly makes them really tender. You can also make a really good sausage and bean casserole in the slow cooker and even boil down your bones for stock.

I think every frugal household should own a slow cooker. Remember, if you have dinner already prepared, you're not going to go out & spend loads of money on a takeout because you can't be bothered to cook!

Wow that does sound like luxury, you are making me hungry thinking about fresh bread and a pot roast cooking, and I JUST ate! I had forgotten about the price aspect, so many slow cooker meals are so inexpensive, it really makes it all worth while!

Ooh ooh ooh I love the crockpot/slow cooker. There is a recipe book that you might like. lol you would have just laughed at me. I stopped typing and dug through my books to find it for you. It's called "fix-it and forget it. Recipes for entertaining" It's filled with wonderful crockpot recipes that are easy and delicious. A lot of them are full meals as well so you don't have to do anything but open it and serve supper when it's done. Something I like to do with boneless chicken is put in 2 cans of Cream of Chicken soup with one can of water. In this place your boneless chicken and let it cook for 6 or 7 hours. When it's done I usually cook a little rice and serve this over it. Anyway have fun with your slow-cooker. They are a wonderful invention.

That is funny, I half expected you to say you're scanning every page to e-mail it to me :D I do have a good crock pot recipe book, although I haven't looked at it in forever. Many of the meals I do, I know my heart and they are our old favorites.

LOL sweetie I like you but not enough to scan a book and mail it to you. :) Although that kind of does sound like something I would do I guess.

I love my crockpot too. Spaghtetti sauce is definitely better slow cooked. But, even for other things it is great. Ribs fall off the bones. And you just pop the food in first thing in the morning, turn it on, then when you come home, nice hot dinner all ready to go.

Oh yes, I have done ribs once. Pulled BBQ pork is easy too because the roast falls apart after being in the crockpot all day. I also like it because you can put frozen meat in and it will still cook just right.

Yeah, crockpot; also slowcooker is really great to have. I do cook certain stuff in my crockpot. I make home made chili and homemade beef stew. Just go online to find out how to make homemade stuff in your crockpot.

Well I am a stay at home mom and have plenty of time to cook meals, but I still use my crockpot a minimum of once a week. You can cook practically anything in it. Just toss it all together in the morning, set it on low for 8 hours, and forget about it until dinner time. Some of my favorite crockpot meals are pot roast, just throw in the roast and veggies and whatever seasonings with a cup of water and leave it all day, spaghetti sauce, as stated above, pulled bbq pork which I discussed in the 1st post on this discussion, most any type of chicken... especially chicken noodle soup! Cook a whole chicken, or chicken peices for 8 hours, it falls off the bone so much easier and you can use the water for the broth. Of course I personally transfer that to the stove when adding veggies and such, but I find that meat is a lot more tender in the crockpot. Most times you can cut it with a fork. The possiblities are really endless, and I have an entire book of crockpot recipes that are so easy and time saving! BTW, you can also do desserts and appetizers in the crockpot, just find yourself a nice recipe book on them!

I am with you on the crock pot love. Once I started using mine I couldn't understand why I hadn't used it more! It's especially great in the summer because it dosen't heat up the hosue like turning on the stove would. I like making pulled pork and spare ribs in mine. In the winter it's great for soups and stews as well. I have an older crockpot and it dosen't have the removable insert for easy cleaning...so I use those Reynold liners and they are awesome. They seriously make cleaning a breeze!

Yes, I had forgotten to mention the heat aspect in my earlier post. It just dawned on me as I turned my oven on to make the garlic bread (I need one of those little toaster ovens!).

That does sound good but doesn't the spaghetti get overdone? I love spaghetti but don't like it to get mushy.. I have got to get my crockpot out and start using it again.. They do have so many newer styles and some of them hold almost double what the older styles hold.. I may have to buy a new one..

Oh, I don't put the noodles in the crockpot :D Just the sauce and meatballs. Guess I should have specified.

I have 2 different sized Crock Pots, but I hardly ever use them. I might start using it more now that the weather is getting warmer though. It is better than heating up the whole house.

oooohh.. There are no crockpots in my country (not that I know of) but I've read a lot about them and I'd really like to get one if I could. I wonder if I can use a rice cooker instead?

I wonder if you ordered one of the internet if they'd ship it to you? Have you looked into that? E-Bay would be the first place I'd look, and then perhaps Walmart or Target.com. Williams and Sonoma are very expensive, but they may ship to you. Good Luck

I really do enjoy using my crockpot. I decided to make my own homemade stew; including chopped up beef/steak, celery, potatoes, beef broth, beef flavored cubes, salt and pepper, onions, peppers, and brown rice. For homemade chili; I include dark red kidney beans, onions, diced tomatoes, chili powder, salt and pepper, garlic, and red tomato paste. I put in a little sugar to get its taste. Hey, do not forget. Chili has lots of fiber. As well as Grandma Brown's baked beans. That stuff makes me fart a lot.

LMAO, you're funny. Yes I love beef stew in my crock pot. Actually here they sell seasoning packets for beef stew and pot roast and other things like that.
