Baby found in dumpster with umbilical cord still attached.

I heard this on the news last night and still can't get over how someone could do this to a newborn baby (KSDK) -- A newborn baby was discovered in a dumpster Monday night in the Skinker-De Baliviere neighborhood. The infant was found with its umbilical cord still attached. Wesley Falker, the man who found the child, believes he was meant to be there.Advertisement "That God did all of this. He put all of this together. The baby cried at the right time. I was out there at the right time," said Falker, who was emptying yard waste in the dumpster when he heard the baby crying. "And I think it's going to be a good result...I think this baby is going to be just fine." http://www.ksdk.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=145631 What really gets me is that the state this happened in has a safe haven law the child could have been left at any hospital or church so why through it in a dumpster full of grass? What do you think should happen to the mother when she is found? I am so glad the baby will be ok. It is sad to think that some people try for years to have kids and can't and others just throw them away! Someone will want the baby!

correct me if im wrong but i think that she will go to jail, she endangered her childs life, thier is no ecxcuse fr what she did. if she didnt want it she should have left it in the hospital were the baby was safe and could be cared for. it wont be long before they find her. and she will get what is coming to her jail!!

How do we know that the baby's mother did anything wrong? The person who put the baby in the dumpster should go to jail but we shouldn't just assume it was the mother who did it.

it was the mother when ever you hear a story about babies dumped it was by the mother. this isnt the first case and it wont be the last that a mother will dump her child because she dont want it or for what ever reason she has!!!

I imagine that the women was quite terrified. Possibly a teen. Not that I'm justifing it, it is horrible. I just wish that more women knew of their options. The women probably didn't know about the safe haven law.

Yeah, it is a horrible crime. It is considered infant abuse. Throwing an infant in the dumpster is wicked! Whoever did that will be responsible and has to pay for that crime.

Many people still aren't aware of the safe haven laws or how they work. They may even think it's a trap of some sort...fear that they'll be questioned when they bring the baby in, fear that parents will be notified...Some can't get to a Safe Haven location, sure that one girl walked 4 blocks to the hospital after giving birth in the shower but that's not normal. Seriously, how is that 15 year old home alone supposed to get to the hospital or police station? She can't drive, doubtfully can walk, not all areas have taxi's and buses. If she hid the pregnancy she can't exactly ask her parents for a ride. The Safe Haven law is great but it needs to be expanded so babies can be picked up by the authorities when needed. "What do you think should happen to the mother when she is found?" Well I think first, they should ask her what happened. Just because she gave birth to the baby doesn't automatically mean she threw it in the dumpster herself. Maybe the abusive boyfriend/husband/father took the baby from her and threw it in there.

I hope that if the mother is found she gets the help she obviously needs, whos to say why she did it maybe she was even made to I doubt she was thinking clearly though when she did it so mostly she needs a lot of help to get over what happened and help her to deal with it. As you say there are people who can give the baby a loving home so while the mother could have picked a better place to dump her child really I cant even begin to imagine the state id have to be in to dump my own child so in a way I feel for her as she could desperatley need help.

That makes me sick! I cant stand mothers like this. I'm sorry but I had a child at 17 and I could have never thought of doing this. I think almost every state has a safe haven. I know in MA, NH and CT they can bring the unwanted baby to any hospital and they will gladly take that child. Who wouldnt though? I'd rather take that baby in then know it doesnt have a fighting chance. I always take the phrase that baby didnt ask to be born.

First, I am glad the baby was found alive and has a chance to make it! We also have that law here, and since it was put into place I have stopped hearing about stories from this area, thank goodness. I also feel the way you do. It is a shame so many deserving couples try all their lives to have children but are unable, yet so many undeserving throw their children away, literally. What do I want to see happen to the mother? Well, I guess that depends. We aren't in her shoes so can't judge her. Once we hear her story, I will pass my judgement, for what it's worth.

That is terrible when you hear something like this. Fortunately someone was in the right place at the right time. And someone will give that child a loving and caring home. As for the mother she needs some help. I don't think jail time but I think mental hospital to help deal with why she would do something so cruel to something so innocent.

I just don't understand why people do this to babies, if they don't want them drop them off at a hospital, firehouse, or police station. You would have to be pretty darn heartless to do this to a baby. It would be an idea to put hidden cameras around dumpsters to maybe catch some of these people.

Hello there luvstochat, in my country, Singapore, there have been an increase in the number of cases of moms dumping their children, even with umbilical cord still attached. I feel very pitiful and sad for the sake of the children. Sometimes, the moms have their own reasons for doing that, but I just think that they could have solved the matter more better and not dump their own child like that. It's just so sad..

I is terrible to hear such news. I always gets goose bumps when I read about such horrific crimes. the mother-she needs help and be put away. What was she thinking. Her own child left to die? I am speechless, too man of these crimes and the punishment is too little.

Oh my gosh! I really hate it when I read or hear something about that! You are absolutely right! There are other people who desperately want children but they couldn't have any whereas those who can have them throw them away like garbage! They are still human beings who have nothing to do with our mistakes! They do not deserve this kind of treatment! So sad.

SHAME!SHAME! SHAME! on that so called mother. I called her a so- caled mother, because How could a mother carry a baby for nine long months, and after giving birth throw it in the dumpster. Does n't she know how precious a God given life is. My heart is so burden when I hear of cases like this one. God put that gentleman in the right place at the right time; he has actually saved a life. There are so many people out there who would love to have a child and is unable to. My daughter got married and they wanted a child all that time but was unble until recently, through a special proceedure, after 5 years. Why do such people become pregnant? Is there an answer? sad, sad, sad.

The man that found the new born baby must have been really surprised. What a terrible place for a woman to dump her unwanted baby. She would have been much better to have left her baby at a safe haven. I guess that she was a teenage terrified mother that didn't want her parents to find out. She might be in a poor way, having given birth alone. If the mother is found she should have some help from a kind person in social services. She might need to talk about the possibility of getting help for post natal depression. She could decide to adopt her baby boy into a loving family. I am sure that the mother feels scared right now and it is lucky that her baby son is getting the care he needs. Good luck to the poor baby in his life.

That was the awful crime I have ever heard in my life. Well good thing that the infant was out of the dumpster. That was the sad experience to face. So we have to look for whoever is responsible for this. This is infant abuse. Good thing that someone rescued the baby out of the dumpster. I hear that the infant will be just fine. I wonder where this occured. Where is Skinker-De Baliviere? This is the scary story to pass around. That will make others weep and pray for that poor baby.
