Do you eat with your Stomach or with your Eyes?

I obviously feel hungry now and then as any other person, so when i feel like that i eat if it's possible. But there are times in which i feel compelled to eat something just because it looks so great that my brain knows it has to taste even better, and i'm not really even hungry at the moment. Does that happen to you often? that's what can be called eating with your eyes instead of eating with your stomach, or when you eat too much because you see a lot of yummy food and you don't pay attention to the full-up signals that your body sends you. Do you eat with your eyes or with your stomach?

Definitely my stomach Lightnin Darlin! I don't have a very good appetite and when I am full I am full and can't force the issue! Oh how I wish that I had the figure to go with that! lol Good to see you sweety - I've missed you lately! xxx

I'd say I eat with my nose. I don't rely on my eyes too much when eating because I might get disappointed (there's food that looks good but may taste blah). So for me "the nose knows." If it smells good, then it must be.

hah, i didn't include the nose in this discussion, but i'm glad you did. Smell is a very important sense as well, and we often decide that someone is tasty if it smells good, or we don't eat it if the smell is not appealing. thank you for replying.

I eat a lot with my eyes unfortunately. I'll go somewhere to eat and I'll be really hungry and I'll end up with more food on my plate than I can really eat. Sometimes too, I'm not even that hungry, but I'll see something that looks good and I'll want it. It is a pain, and it's something I try to stop myself from doing but it still happens anyway.

Hi LightninStrike! I do eat with my stomach. I really don't like to eat if I am not hungry. Even if my eyes is really feasting on a certain food, I would not even get a bite of it if my stomach is full. Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a nice day!

There was a time that I was watching TV and this commercial has been flashed many times during the commercial break, it's the Denny's commercial where a hearty breakfast is shown and it looked so yummy. The following day I asked my hubby to bring me to Denny for breakfast. I guess there are times that I am compell to eat because I see the food, so I even if I am not hungry and I see the food looks yummy I would have a bite. But when I am really hungry no matter how the food looks I don't care I would dig in and eat to satisfy my stomach.

Most often with my eyes. I wish I didn't but I always stuff myself when I get a good meal or something that just looks too good to put down. Sometimes I end up so full it hurts for a while, but I'm getting better at that.

This happened to me also. What my eyes see really affect my stomach and appetite sometimes. Our senses are really making sense after all. Even my nose and ears are doing it too. Whenever I hear and smell such very nice food, I get hungry.

I eat with my eyes when i'm quite full or when im feeling bored or perhaps i've just finished a meal but i feel like i have to munch on something later on. I normally eat with my stomach when i am very very hungry. Basically, I would just eat anything when my stomach is empty. But after i eat, if there's other things on the table or nearby me, somethings like junk food, Nachos, peanuts or chocolates or fruits or anything that i can see after i finish my meal, be it at home or at the restaurant, i will make some space in my stomach for those irresistible food. But i guess a lot of people feels the same way. Even for weight watchers like my girlfriend. But for them, they have to control their appetite as for me who don't really watch what i'm eating, i'll just eat and gobble anything within my reach.

It really depends, I would try to eat with my stomach because I don't wanna put on weight plus I don't wanna feel sick by eating too much if I have a meal or something before hand. It's better to listen to your stomach and I'm quite good at it :)

For me I eat both. I won't eat something that does not look good in my eyes. Though there's some food who just look good but it does not taste well. So I think a mixture of both would really satisfy one's hunger.

Of course, I eat with my stomach but I think it's better if the food is presented artistically as it can increase appetite. Experts say that food presentation can help trigger our appetites because of the food's color and manner of arrangement.

i am acutally relearning how to eat. in an attempt to lose weight i have been watchin paul mckenna on the learning channel and he says you have to learn to listen to your stomach and not use your eyes as a measure of how much you are going to eat or continue to eat even after you are full. it has been working for me and i actually leave food on my plate and do not stuff myself or look for anything else to eat when i am done. it is a learning process and needs to be done consistently and consciously to work.

I think I eat with my stomach because I don't order a lot of things when I eat out with my friends . I just order enough for me . But sometime , usually at night , I often eat something although I'm full like chips , snack , .....

I think I do eat with my eyes a lot. Especially if I'm really really hungry. I'll see something and want 10 of them. I definitely eat with my eyes first! Then smell second. There's nothing worse than walking along absolutely starving when all of a sudden you smell warm pies or bred baking or Indian food wafting through the air...mmm...i'm hungry now!

It is very true that the eyes have a lot to do with it. and sometimes they do play a role in not listening to the signs telling us we're full. Food presentation is something that has always been used by good restaurants and catering companies. People start looking at all those yummies and ... well it's difficult to resist. I have known very few people that can resist. But a big majority of people do eat with their eyes too. On the other hand, sometimes things look so much better than what they taste or really are.

Hi! I think I eat with both. they both have different roles to play whenever I eat. I feel with my stomach that Im hungry. Then Ill look at the menu and imagine what the food mgiht look like and so because I feel hungry Ill pick more food than I thought I could handle and Ill pick the ones that mgiht taste very good in my minds eye. when the food is prepared and served and its already right in front of me Ill dig in the moment I see it and when I see that theres a lot more I eat fast or at least faster than normal. When I feel full, somtimes I stop because my stomach is already full and Ive eaten with my stomach but if I see that there is still left over food and nobody oredred it but me thinking that my stomach can handle it, I take a bit of a time off and let my stomach adjust to have a bit of free space so I can squeeze the leftovers in there. It has been my habit to eat everything that I myself has put in my plate and to not let food go to waste.^_^

I eat with a bit of both personally. When my stomach calls and their is some food in front of me, I will definitly eat it. Then again when their is something sugary that looks soooooo good right in front of me, then I probably will not be able to fight against the urge to eat the food. So I eat with a bit of both, but my stomach is the main priority.
