Moomin that Mad Moggie strikes again, and takes out my computer

Moomin the Mad Moggie - Moomin the Mad Moggie strikes again
May 9, 2008 7:40am CST
Moomin just loves curling up under my computer desk, settling down and going to sleep in comfort (and usually on my feet too). It's warm and dark under there so it seems to have become one of his favourite lurking spots and usually his first port of call when he comes back in from the great outdoors playing the great hunter. However, I noticed an odd smell coming from the area under the desk, and at first I thought it was either the carpet was getting a bit grubby, or maybe my feet needed a wash (lol) or that maybe Moomin had rolled in something unplesant. I finally decided that I had to get under the desk and find out the source of the increasingly unpleasant pong, and spent the best part of half an hour pulling out all the accumulated clutter under the desk I found the offending article. "Right, you silly cat, listen to me and listen good, the mouse on the desk goes with the computer. The dead mouse carefully stashed inside my computer case does not help with computer functions nor does it add to the atmosphere in the house." I removed the corpse and then had to clean out the computer casing, reconnect all the wires and cables, reboot the computer and get back online. Moomin, meanwhile, spent his time sitting close by watching as I cleaned up all the mess he made, and moaning at me for moving his hunting trophy. If he'd only left his trophy accessable then I could have said *thank you Moomin* and removed it, but I have no idea how long the carcass had been hidden in there. Do your animals leave you little gifts in strange places?

He was probably trying to save it for later - then - decided it wasn't good enough anymore.

LOL it certainly wasn't very *fresh* I think the heat from the computer unit must have started cooking it.

ewwwwwwwwwww Well, there's the theory of why we don't have "mouse" flavored cat food. Actually, I have wondered that myself. Just easier to use the leftover bits of people food to make pet food I guess.

ROTF - I can actually still smell Eau de Mouse in this corner of the room. I wish Moomin would actually eat cat food but he's far too fussy for the canned stuff, he eats tuna flakes most of the time. Interesting thought though, mouse flavoured cat food.

One of my cats left a roof rat behind my computer under the desk. Unfortunately, my sense of smell is pretty bad. Even so, I did eventually notice a smell. I finally figured out what was going on when I saw flies. It is really hard getting decomp rat out from under a desk without dripping it all over the house. Then cleaning it out of the carpet.... Then I hit the spot with a bit of bleach and about half a can of Fabreeze.

Yuck - thank goodness I noticed the smell before it got that bad.

Sometimes having a honked up sniffer is a good thing and sometimes, not so much. In this case, I'm undecided.

Do you take the sides off your machine for better ventilation? I've been gifted with meeces, birds, and one time a small rabbit that turned up on the doorstep..must post that one sometime...The frog that recently turned up on the doorstep looking in as Me and furface were looking out remained unmolested.(ditto).The furry one carefully avoided it going out!The only thing that really bugs me is when He's been out and laying around in long grass for a while, then brings in the occasional small slug stuck in his fur! I end up giving him a hand grooming, usually,as I think He's already a couple of lives down due to slug poison.. One time,I got one of the blighters making an ascent on the north face of my Living room wall!

Yes, I removed one side as it gets quite warm under the desk. Moomin has brought in a number of presents in his time, never slugs or snails fortunately. I'm not too keen on finding anything tackling the north face of my living room wall either.

Once Gizmo came in with a mouse that was still alive and it ran away, I thought it must have got out and thought no more about it. I found it months later in the electricity meter cupboard when it started to smell so it obviously didn't last very long after it ran away.

Yuck, I must admit the smell isn't very nice. I hope Gizmo hasn't left any other little presents anywhere hun.

LOL Moomin has just left the house, heading out to the garden, no doubt going hunting again. I shudder to think what he will bring in this time. That's an impressive collection of little gifts you got

Hey Moomin...hope you can get your mum off the computer and you can talk to me..it's Pyewacket, my cousin is asleep, so I have the computer all to myself while my mum is getting her bath filled. Now, nw Moomin, don't you know that was a naughty thing to do...how on earth did you think of putting your trophy in your mum's computer system and then leaving it there to make it smell...ewwww! My mom doesn't have to worry about any unpleasant surprises like that since we don't have mice here, but uh, well on occasion I confess we do leave our "prizes". Oh, boy is she ever mad at us when she goes to the bathroom late at night, the lights are out as she goes to the bathroom and maybe she walks on one of our furballs..then the language on her...my my..does your mum say nasty language too? Oops...my mom is coming back...don't let on I talked to you okay? shhh..our secret.....oops..caught! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oh no! You must forgive me recycledgoth...looks like my Pyewacket got to the computer..does he really talk to all the mylot furbabies here? I think I even caught some discussions here that I know I didn't start but he did. Anyway...did you manage to get the smell out from the computer casing? That's not exactly an easy smell to get rid of. I'm glad my two cats don't do anything like that, but as you can read what Pyewacket wrote to Moomin I do find, or should I say step on other surprises

Lol I am sorry recycle I have to laugh as our Cats used to always bring things in to but never went as far as hiding them near my Computer I can just imagine the Cat watching you while you are cleaning it up Gissi has a habit of hiding his Chewies under my Desk and then when he starts sniffing like mad under it I look to see what he is sniffing at lol he actually starts to growl at me when I look but I just ignore him he also hides them in the Settee

That's a great yarn recycledgoth. You tell it well. My Banjo brings home friends to play with. He plays and plays and because he has lots more energy than they do, eventually they just fall asleep. Then he eats them.

LOL I sometimes wish Moomin would simply play with them, preferably outside, and then either let them go or just find something else to play with. Fortunately he hasn't actually sat there in front of me eating the goodies, only chewing on the occasional spider.

LOL I remember one day that fluffy came to us bringing an offer: a mouse! Grrrrrrr she seemed so pleased with herself and so eager to bring it to us . Thankfully she left it out in the open and not hiding which made it a bit better:) On the other hand although I might be pleased with a nice rug, a mouse in my living room floor was not my first choice LOL

It had been a long time since I was where I could have acat. But one time the reverend from the Seventh day adventist church cameby to visit and tell us what awful people we were. I had a magazine and he was against magazines, and my earrings were lying on the coffee table and he preached about wearing jewelery. I was getting just a bit pissed off and here comes Ebony my cat with a big rat which she deposited right at the feet of this pastor. I have neverseen anyone get up so fast and move out of our house so fast before in my life. Our usual pastor was ill and this sanctimonious pastor was filling in .I could have kissed that cat just about then. I told this later to our real pastor and he laughed so hard I thought he was going to break a rib.

Fantastic what wonderful timing by Ebony and a perfect gift for the sanctimonious one. Cats are such wonderful creatures :-)
