Well I didn't think I would plant anything this year since I haven't planted any veggies in years. But the other day I bought a cherry tomatoe plant and planted into a small plastic garbage can, since these type of tomatoes do good as patio plants planted in small containers. I am looking forward to having tomatoes this summer. The plant cost less than $3 and the container was a $1 and the dirt that I bought was $1.27 for a 40 pound bag. So I am hopeful that I will get back more than I put into it especially with the price of veggies these days. So have you planted anything or are you going to plant anything this summer?

Definitely. I have most of my garden planted - well, all of it, unless something else calls my name! I have planted beans, beets, cucumbers, corn, radishes, lettuce, dill.. forgot I still have to plant squash. With the price of vegetables now, I can't afford not to.

I do have bell peppers, broccoli, brussel sprouts and one potato, besides a few strawberries and some chocolate mint that got out of control last year. I have to try to dig it up and get it into a pot. Horseradish, too. I keep forgetting about things!

I have zuchinni, cauliflower, brocoli, onions both green and yellow, sweet corn, grape tomatoes, roma tomatoes, big girl tomatoes, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, and I thinks that all. I have strawberries, red rasberries, grapes, and 2 apple trees as well. Plus mint that I dry out for potpourri and tea. Plus a lot of green beans and bell peppers and banana peppers. I knew I could capture your attention with this discussion since I knew you had started a garden already. You will have more than I have going but something is better than nothing.

Just like you, I haven't planted any veggies in years; I never planted any plant for several years to be more appropriate. But let me put things straight, I love planting. The only reason I wasn't able to plant for a long time now is because we are presently living in a rented apartment and there's no available space in the area. The yard is cemented with pebbles and there's no way I could get some dirt or land here. But two months ago, I started placing seeds of bittermelon (ampalaya), avocado, and papaya in separate plastic containers. The seeds were actually free because they were the ones which I kept after we ate some fruits and veggies. Now, the papaya is almost two feet high. And hopefully, we'll be able to harvest some of the leaves from the ampalaya over the weekend; I'm planning to cook sauteed monggo seeds with ampalaya leaves. The avocado, on the other hand, needs more time to grow and I'm willing to wait. I do recall when I planted about four to five avocado seeds in my hometown half a decade ago. I literally placed them on the dirt, and I was surprised and happy at the same time when I discovered that it has already developed leaves. I'm happy I gave in to the ideas in my thoughts which I was contemplating for about six months. Plus the fact that my husband was quite discouraging me on this plan of mine. But in the end, I was able to persuade him to get some dirt from his uncle's land near the house we're renting. He also realized that I love planting and in this way, he was able to understand that planting veggies is not only beneficial to our health but also for family bonding because the whole family is engaged into it.

Glad you were able to find away around it and able to plant you some veggies.

you should get a good crop from your plant. I grew cherry tomatoes for the first time last year and planted them in a trough in the garden. What a bad summer we had with all the rain and the plants did get a bit water logged but we still had a good crop from them. I have grown them again this year, have planted three plants in the trough and they are all covered in flower

Glad that your cherry plants are doing good. I need to check mine before I leave for work, since I didn't get home from work last night until 10. It sounds like more people are planting their veggies in containers these days!

Probably not. last year I planted tomatoes, but I don't think I will this year. I'll be gone most of the summer, and the weather isn't looking to great now. :(

I bought myself a two different types of tomatoe plants, a pea plant, a cucumber plant and some strawberry plants. I also bought two packages of seeds, peas and carrots. Unfortunately the other plants took so long that I still haven't gotten the carrot seeds started. But the peas are looking good. Not sure how much money I'll save but at least the veggis will be fresh and taste great. I'm thinking about buying a dwarf blueberry bush. They take a few years before you get a return on your investment but you also don't have to replant them every year. And I've heard they are quite pretty.

I planted a couple of blueberry bushes and will see how they make up. I do not know if I will plant any vegetables. My husband does not want a garden, I do have a raspberry and strawberry patch, but they are mostly grow by themselves except for the weeding and pulling out the dandelions and grass and I put some coriander seeds in the front of the patch, but I doubt that they will come up. I was thinking of getting a tomato plant in a container, but I had decided that with the price of blueberries being so high, I better grow my own. So that is what I am doing.

We didn't have a chance to plant anything last year but we sure did this year. We planted three tomato plants, some green onions and some leaf lettuce. I would love to plant more but we only live on a 14 acre and we are trying to landscape my yard this year. I love fresh vegetables because the store bought ones are expensive and just do not taste as good. I hope you can get you a garden going too. Good luck with your cherry tomatoes. I like those too.

Hey terri! We have planted tomato plants and banana peppers and hot peppers and bell peppers. I had brought home flower pots from my mama's house and we just planted them all in them. We have not had time to till up the garden this year with all the moving at mama and daddy's so we had to do that. There are some Mennonites that bring extra veggies they grow to the office where my husband works and we will buy some of them so I can put some veggies up. God bless.

We don't usually plant anything. The last time anything was planted, my sister in law planted some peppers. They came out well. I suppose it is just a matter of deciding what to plant. And of course finding the time. It is a relatively low cost hobby. Maybe my almost 5 year old would enjoy it.

Tomato Plants -
These are the tomatoes I started from seed in half an eggshell.
Terri, I know you've been following at least some of my discussions so you may already know what I've done. I've started everything from seed and I've got tomatoes (they're doing AWESEOME), green and purple bush beans, bush cucumber and peppers in containers, as well as another cucumber, 2-3 beans and peppers and a handful of sugar snap peas in the small area alongside the house. I'm going to start more beans in pots today since you know that the bunnies got to mine yesterday. I bought a pack of lettuce seed yesterday too - I thought I'd give them a bit more variety for their lunch. Nice looking tomato plant. Here's a pic of mine from this morning. I started them in a half of an eggshell, then planted the whole thing as they got their second leaves. I started them at various times in hopes of having fresh tomatoes for a longer period of time.

Hey Terri I'm not planting anything except a few herbs, I'm my home in Oregon. But I'd like to suggest that you may plant a few more things around the tomatoe plants you have there's room for a few herbs and they are compatable with the tomatoes and don't take alot of room. like basil or stick some garlic cloves around the edges. You can trim them as they grow and will keep growing all season long! Good Luck! tdemex

Herbs are a great idea. I did see some chammomile, and a few others when I bought the tomato plant, so I may get some chammomile, since I do like chammomile tea!

ive planted quite a few greens in my garden this year, got some carrots, beetroot, chillis, a huge pumpkin and a nice tomato plant. However, i find the maintenace quite long, too many weeds keep on growing next to my plants, which leads me to ask if anyone has any tricks for removing them easily
