Last night my brother called me because his girlfriend was thinking about getting a tattoo and she wanted to ask me where she should get it on her body (lol like I know!) She was afraid of it hurting and I told her not to worry, it won't be bad, plus it wouldn't take long since she wanted something small. She asked me what piercings I've had done and I say, "just my nipples." So she's like, "do tattoos feel the same as getting your bellybutton pierced?" Uh... like I said, never had my bellybutton pierced, but I told her they are totally different feeling. So she says thanks and I hang up. I get a call awhile later (I was in bed already) and my brother left a message. I listened to it... apparently they went to a tattoo shop (apparently researching artists is totally overrated to her) and the tattooist was completely smashed. Like falling over drunk. She STILL wanted to have him tattoo her... despite my brother's advice not to let him. So he asks for ID and he was like, "OH F*CK I can't read this stupid name!" and fell over... ahahaha so she decided to leave, thankfully. She's really a sweet person, but my brother's girlfriend is not all there sometimes... and drunk tattooists... ew.

Im glad she decided to leave. It would have been awful if he would have gave ehr tatoo and messed it all up. Hopefully she will think seriously about where she goes next time.

oh WOW! Truthfully, I adore tattoos, I love them and I think of them as a way to express myself. My body is my canvas to show everyone else my accomplishments and goals in life. I cant stand hearing stories like that only because its amazing to me that a tattoo artist such as the one in this story was at all able to get his license and start a shop. Im VERY glad your brothers girlfriend did not stay there and go through with the tattoo. First of all because, a tattoo artist who goes into work intoxicated knowing damn well that he will not be able to work under his conditions does not care about his work and does not care about the customer's needs. Second of all, I have a couple tattoos and if it was your brother's girlfriends first tattoo. She wants to go somewhere she knows will do a good job... the last thing she needs is a drunk guy trying to make straight lines. Also, knowing alot about tattoos, piercings and all types of body modification, I have tattoos, and I have my Navel(bellybutton) pierced. It feels nothing like that. Im glad you were able to put the two together that it would feel completely different. But-- Good Luck to her and I hope she finds a good tattooist to go to! Finding the right person and someone you can interact with while tattooing you is very important. Its important to have a certain amount of trust in the person sticking you with needles. Esspecially since its not a two second think like a navel piercing.

Yeah, I am going to tell her to look around and talk to some of the artists in her area and check out their work. She is kind of goofy... I have had more than one regrettable tattoo experience and thankfully they are covered now, but I guess she thought since I have tattoos I would be able to tell her exactly what she would want/where she would want it. Obviously that is a very personal decision... why she would ask me at all is beyond me.. we are nothing alike! lol. I just hope she finds a good place to go and doesn't rush into it...

Well, at least she did not get the tattoo from him! Maybe now she will do her research BEFORE she tries to get a tattoo!

Well, that could have been quite a disaster. Glad he fell over. She's lucky he didn't fall over in the middle of tattooing her!

One of my good friends is a tattooist I'd recommend her but she's a bit too far away being over here in England although she's back in Chicago at the moment, I know that's still too far away. She needs to really thinks about where and what if she really wants a tattoo so she won't regret it.

Like falling over drunk. She STILL wanted to have him tattoo her... despite my brother's advice not to let him are you serious?!? omg thats insane! There is NO WAY IN HELL i'd let someone that loaded come anywhere NEAR ME with ANY sharp pointy object let alone one that is meant for permanently inking my skin ...Luckily she ended up leaving..that could have been a TOTAL bad scene if she'd gone through with it

Wow... gotta love the folks who really don't know what they want and who don't know what they're getting into... :) But the drunk tattoo artist? Yeah, that's the first sign to RUN and never look back at that shop. Yikes!

LOL. When I read that I started laughing because I imagined the tattooist falling over and saying that. That's really funny and it's good that she didn't get the tattoo because who knows what could have happened or what that tattooist would have put on her? Thank god her fell over and she decided that it was a bad idea.

Wow! That sounds like a scene from a reality TV show! Incredible that the shop owner or others there didn't send that artist home! I recently got my first one at the ripe old age of 48 (better late than never!) I did my research, I overpaid, all the right steps, however apparently on a part of the outline, the artist went in a little too deep, and it was on the back of neck under my hair. Needless to say, I got a slight infection and the outline is faded and needs to be redone. I'm going to another place this time so hopefully they can fix the situation. Tatoos are very personal so I can't imagine why she would need to ask you where she should get it. I would only be concerned with where I would want to get it and not what anyone else thinks. You've gotta be sure about those things before you get them done! Good luck to both of them!
