Motorcycles

The news says a lot of people are turning to motorcycles to save gas. Of course I doubt a family of four is going that route, but I know what they mean. My parent's neighbors have a motorcycle, but they have had it for a while. They are in their late 40s, have two teenagers living at home, and when they ride the motorcycle they look like they are having the time of their lives. I don't think it is a midlife crisis at all, like a lot of people think. It seems to me that they are getting to where they can afford to do something they always wanted to do, like taking rides on a motorcycle together. I know a lot of people consider them too dangerous. Many of you might know people who were in accidents with them. I don't really want to ride a motorcycle, but what about the rest of you. Do you have one, want one, or don't like them at all? Would you ever consider one just to save gas?

I don't like motorcycles. They are too noisy, and the wind messes up my hair too much. Besides, almost everyone I've known who had a motorcycle has had a bad accident, getting hit by a car who's driver didn't see the motorcycle. I would consider riding a motorized bicycle.

When I think of riding a motorcycle I think of catching bugs in me teeth.

I meant my teeth. I sounded a bit Irish, oh, I think of getting bugs in me teeth!

We don't have a motorcycle but I know they are alot better on gas than a car or a truck. We have enough bills right now and cannot afford to buy one. we would have to make payments on one and that may as well go in the gas tanks of one of our vehicles so the whole family can go. I would like to have something cheaper on gas though.

Oh I know. It seems people, mostly the media I think. like to push the hybrid cars, making people feel guilty for not using them and saving energy and fuel. Well hey, we all would if we had the money!

Not only NO, but HECK NO! I think they are wayyyy to dangerous! I have such a fear of them from my dad being reckless on his with me on the back as a young kid. Mark wants one really bad, but i pretty much told him if he came home with one, i'd leave him--NO JOKE. His life and health are more important to us than saving gas.

Actually, I've always liked motorcycles, THAT and mini coopers and impala's lol. _ but yeah, actually I'll probably get some sort of scooter instead of a motorcycle, 'cause besides a bike or animals like horses, or anything that could draw a cart...it's even better on gas in comparison to cars. I saw a bit on the news today that scooters are actually becoming very popular in my area, dorky looking as scooters are, they're slightly more practical than motorcycles, because you can attach a cart to the back...for groceries...or give family a ride to work, etc. It may be the only thing I can afford for my first mode of transportation, heh^_^' I was supposed to learn to drive a car and get my first one this year, but it doesn't seem practical or plausible these days. Otherwise I think I'm gonna walk and bike everywhere.

That wouldn't be an option for me. When I was younger I was driving an motorcycle and I tipped it....well back then the exhaust pipe was on one side and when I laid it over my friend on the back no only got a scrapped leg from the gravel but the hot pipe burned her leg so bad that it was aweful! I have ridden on one since then but don't plan on adding it to my transportation list.

I have heard about people burning their legs on the tail pipe. I can't imagine the utter agony.

I wouldn't because my mother goes everywhere with me. I can't see putting her on a motorcycle at 81 y/o, lol. I have considered getting a smaller car but its not an option right now. I have just cut back on traveling some.

I've known people to be killed on motorcycles before. I've rode them before but I wouldn't have the desire to own one. I might consider a moped or a scooter. I drive a toyota corolla and I don't get too bad of gas mileage. Work is only 7 miles away, my mom lives 35 miles away and church is about 3 miles. So overall I don't do a lot of traveling. My wish would be that the gas prices would go down about a buck. I didn't think I'd ever say that I would be happy with gas being $3, but right now I'd be happy with it. I use to put $5 in my tank, now I put 5 gallons in my tank, and it seems everytime I go it is a $1 more to put the 5 gallons in my tank. Sorry I went off in a differnt direction, but my fingers just went to typing and this is where it lead me. LOL

I have a motorcycle for almost four years now. It's my main means of transportation from house to office. We have five kids, so every time we have outings, some of them will have to ride another car of jeepney. In terms of accident, I always take a lot of care. I know the difficulty of riding a motorcycle, so I said to myself that I will always be a defensive driver. I also plan to have a car which all my kids can ride with us... Someday... Hopefully...
