Do you like broccoli? If you cook broccoli, do you cook the florets only, or do you use the stems too?

If I'm buying it for me, I buy the frozen florettes. But, with my mother liking the entire thing, we buy it fresh and cook it until everything on it is soft. I usually cut down the stem into thick coins so that it can cook better.

I usually peel my stems and cut them into spears so they will cook tender.

I love it, the whole thing altogether and especially if cooked in Chinese style...fresh and not too cooked. I prefer the stem and it's great in any meat dishes or in salad. And it has been proven that broccoli has property that prevent cancer.

Yes, broccoli is a great antioxident for the body. I am getting loads of new ideas for cooking broccoli out of this discussion. Thanks for your contribution.

I am reminded of the time the 41st President of the USA, George H Bush was asked about broccoli. He replied that since he was the President of the USA, he did not have to eat broccoli if he did not want to eat broccoli. So, he didn't. Neither do I! As a footnote, the American broccoli association sent a whole truckload of broccoli to the white house for free. Not a bite was eaten at the white house. They donated it to the Washington DC public school lunch program. Bet the kids liked that!

Even if you don't like broccoli, I bet you like one of its cousins, cabbage. I think both veggies are delicious. BTW, I'm glad the White House broccoli didn't go to waste, at least, that is, at the White House.

I normally only eat the florets. If I am making broccoli soup then I use the whole thing though. I find that the stems are a little tough sometimes.

I always peel the lower part of the stems when I use them, because the peel is tough and stringy.

oh yeah I eat the whole thing. I love it with cauliflower and cheese or just plain and I even eat it with my salads. I like broccoli however you make it but my favorite way is to cook it wrapped in foil on the grill. Put butter with it while its cooking and some salt and a little seasoning... Yum Yum

Absolutely. I love to eat broccoli and have never understood why some people hate it so much. I eat all of the broccoli but I never knew the proper terms. Thanks for informing me of what a floret was. I guess you learn something new every day.

My husband only likes the florets, but I like to eat wll of it. Mostly we eat it boiled and with cheese sauce or raw in salads or veggie dip.

I never actually ate broccoli until I met my hubby as my mom was a meat and potatoes kind of cook. But if cooked enough the stems taste just fine as well. Though if they aren't tender it's hard sometimes for lil ones to chew them.

I enjoy eating the stems just as much as the florets. I think it is a waste to throw away the good broccoli from the stems when you could be eating it.
