WIth all the new area codes cropping up and having to use an area code to dial the town next to you and "long distance" is now only 10 miles away.... what is the first phone number you remember (your home number) and how old were you at that time? Things sure have have changed.... Early 60's, 1st grade, the first phone number I ever had was TW3-5154. That was before they started using the numbers instead of the letters! Then in the early 70's in high school it was 888-8422 - and again, before we had to remember and rely on area codes! What do you remember? Sad to say that I think alot of little kids, their first phone number will be a cell number! My GD only knows mommys cell and daddys cell. She doesn't know her home number. But she does know my home number!

Well I remember about 6 phone numbers. Both from our home in the different places we were in except I can't remember the one in Belgium. The one in Portugal was always the same and that's the one I remember before anything else. The other ones were not as permanent but I still remember most of them. these numbers range from 5 years old to 25. Then I remember my first phone number in here. It was our first apartment here about 25 years ago. Cell phones.. yes, they seem to be mainly the first numbers kids learn. MY parents made me memorize not only our home phone - no cells of course - and the one for a few members of the family with area codes that changed depending on which country we were. It was a bit complicated to be honest LOL

I used to remember all my family and friends...could spit them out instantly. Now that everyone has cells, I get tired of keeping track of them all - home, work and cell..... I just want to say hi, not cause an international incident!!!! I still have a little phone book - I Love Lucy theme of course, and still look up. Don't memorize them anymore as they change so often. And since everyone has three numbers - usually - what's the point!!!

You're right, memorizing cell phone numbers are not a first priority for me to memorize, people change them too often. I usually memorize the land line numbers of my friends, I don't need to call them when they're at work or out anyways. I prefer to call when they're home as long as it isn't an emergency.

The first number I remember is 588-2300. It's the number of a Chicago carpet company called Empire. The always used to have commercials on TV (and still probably do) and they had a jingle that went with their phone number. It was a phone number that people always sang. LOL The people who made up that commercial really wanted the annoying jingle to stay in the heads of all in the Chicagoland area. But if you needed carpet, you always knew where to go. Maybe it's even why they are still around today. I remember being around 7 or 8 when I first knew that number. I probably knew it before my own home number. Guess I watched too much TV growing up. LOL

That is to funny! But can see how it happens. How many times do you call yourself now! I always have to stop and think a second when asked for my home number! THose commercials are a mind grabber aren't they? Funny at that. I am atrying to think of one that I remember and all I come up with is "Cal WOrthington and his dog Spot" for a used car dealer here in SO CA and "A D Doo " for the name of a plumbing company. I didn't and still don't, watch much TV. IF it ain't on the Food NEtwork, I don't watch much!

I couldn't remeber even if my life depended on it. xD I moved and changed phone numbers A LOT when I was a kid. My Parents got my those ID bracelets with my address and phone number the time when I was 2 grade to 4 grade so I wouldn't forget.

Yeah, should have done that with my kids. I don't remember any number I had since being married and with kids - 31 years.

The first phone number that I remember is my home phone number when I was a kid. I think I was 5 when I learned it. I can't post it here though because it is still my dad's phone number.

I still remember the phone number we had as a kid. My parents had that number for about 25 years and it was an easy number so it is easy to remember it. For obvious reasons I am not going to post what the number was. My mom now has a different number since she moved about 15 years ago. Back then they didn't let you take the number with you like they do today. I have had several phone numbers of my own and I don't remember too many of them.

No problem not posting it - the 2 I had posted one doesn't exist and would be 50 years old and the other - probably there but with no area code - no worries. My aunt has had the same number for 50 years...couldn't tell you what it is, but I'd remember it if I hear it!

I remember as a child, our number started out as RA-5----, then they dropped the letters and used numbers, 725-. The numbers matched the buttons on the phone the same as the letters.

Yeah, never heard why they stopped using the letters. one number, three letters..what's the diff? but I always called it Lucy numbers - on I Love Lucy (I"m a fan!) and when they said a phone number in the dialog it had letters.. just thought that was cool!

Oh wow---this takes me back. My first phone number I learned when I was about 4 yrs old in the early 60's TU4-2516. (turner 4) Yes I know what you mean about the kids, My younger daughters 3 children are being taught mommy and daddy's cell phone numbers. They do not even have a house phone. But yep...they will all know Grammy and Poppa's home phone number too. Their school already has it and uses it, which I am glad! Hubby and I were actually just commenting that it is sad for the kids these days...

Yes I do. In fact it is the only number I still remember.I never got into using the phone so the only phone number I remember was the number I had when I was 8.

I was in second grade, 1965, we just moved from WVA to OH. Our phone number ended in 222 and my parents taught it to us by making the sound of a choo choo train............279-9222. The 27 was then BR. Cute memory!

I remember the one I had from the time I was about 8-9 until I moved out at 18 then my parents still had that number for another 6-7 years. I also remember my first boyfriends phone number. No cell phone back then (mobile bag phones were just on the scene and only well-off people had them). Though he did have his own line separate from his parents...lol. The area code hasn't ever changed around here. Can't imagine it ever will.
