Has your child ever cut their own hair off?!

I was reading a discussion about a first hair cut for your child and was wondering how many parents here have ever had their child cut off their own hair. I would be DEVASTATED as I have a little girl with long hair! I have long hair myself and have always had long hair. My best friend has two little boys and a little girl and her older son CUT OFF HER DAUGHTER'S HAIR! She was soooo upset and so was I, her daughter and my daughter are very close and it was so sad for us to see her daughter nearly bald. She was actually born bald, it took her close to 2 years to grow the hair she had, and she was 3 when her brother cut it off. She's 4 now and it has grown back for the most part, but if that had never happened, her hair would be much longer. Has this ever happened to you? what was your reaction?

My son gave himself a really bad haircut. I just kind of rolled my eyes and tried to fix it as much as possible. Two days ago my older daughter cut some hair off both sides in the front because it was sticky and I said to her, "If it was sticky you could have just washed it." "Oh", she says, "didn't think of that." Now I have to take her in and get her bangs trimmed (or fix it myself). Aarghhh.... It was a very nice haircut too!

She's 11 and usually she has a LOT of common sense. Not this time, lol.

STICKY? That's a new one lol. What's even funnier is that your daughter is older, not little like the age where this usually happens.

When My youngest daughter was 2 her 4 year old sister decided that she needed a hair cut. This was one of those times when everything get real quiet so Mom better go see what is going on. There they sat hair all over the floor and my baby almost bald on one side. So in order to make her look decent I had to even up the sides. Then everyone kept saying what a cute little boy. This child is over 40 now and would love to have long hair but it keeps breaking off and looks like bed head if she doesn't keep it short.

That's a shame, I've seen a few people mention that they can't grow their hair long because it just breaks off I've never seemed to have that problem.

I think it made an impression on my daughter when her best friend had her hair cut off by her brother (the girls are both four, they are 3 months apart), and I have explained carefully to her that we don't use scissors on hair at home.. at least nobody but MOMMY lol. I'm pretty sure my spitfire of a daughter would run screaming from anybody who tried to cut her hair, and the whole time she'd be telling me who the culprit was. She isn't a tattler, I don't like that, but I've told her if anybody is trying to hurt her, make the biggest loudest fuss she can and tell mommy who it is!

My children have never cut their own hair, but reading this discussion did bring back a memory from my own childhood. When I was younger a friend asked me to cut his hair. Seems he got some gum in it and rather than let his mom find out he thought he could cut it and hide the gum from her. Needless to say that was a mistake. I did cut it for him and the resulting effect was much worse than any gum would have ever been. That was over 35 years ago and our parents still laugh at us for that. We were 6...LOL

LOL! Gum in the hair seems to be a childhood rite of passage, I know I have done that and my daughter did too. At least it wasn't bad enough to have to cut it out, I am very patient with hair despite what she gets in it.

I can actually speak as someone who as a little kid cut some of my hair. I can't remember why now(probably boredom), because I was pretty young when it happened. I do know that I had really long hair back then, and my mom always wanted me to get it cut because she didn't like having to wash so much hair, but my dad wouldn't let her get it cut. LOL Anyway, so I don't know how much I cut, but I know my mom told me if I ever did it again she'd make me get it cut short like a boy's hair. And that definitely was something I didn't want at all! Me, I don't have any kids, but I would be upset because I like long hair, so while I wouldn't go postal or yell at them if they cut their hair I would be pretty upset, and depending on how bad it was I would take them to get it fixed so it could at least grow back out.

I never cut my own hair or my siblings' hair, but I DID cut hair off my barbies and other dolls. LOL! Do you still have long hair? I do... it's down my back, not down to my butt or anything but still pretty long.

Neither of my children have ever cut their own hair thank goodness. I remember when I was about 12 the boy that I was baby sitting went to the bathroom to go potty and when he came out a minute or so later he had a pair of scissors in his hand and he was missing some hair up front.

I hide the scissors... they are all up high. By the time somebody would figure out where they were, they'd be caught in the process of climbing.

My child was 2 years old when she cut her hair. She cut the right part of her hair just above her ear showing off her ear, while the left side covers her ear. Out of curiosity i guess. My husband just cut the other half to balance her look. It's just a good thing that she did not hurt or cut herself.

I think kids will be kids. I think it is funny. My boys did this and I had to shave their heads because it was unfix-able. They said they felt ugly after I shaved it and never touch the scissors again.
