Pierced earrings or clip

I used to wear clip earrings. But, when my daughter was 12, she wanted to get her ears pierced, against the advice of Mom. Well, I relented. And they looked so good, she and her Dad talked me into going back and getting mine pierced. And I will never regret it. That's been 25 years ago. I wear mostly hoop earrings. I would love to have a pair of diamond studs, but I guess those can wait. I have a pair of pearl earrings, but one is broken at the moment. My teardrop pearl rings were stolen in a house burglary about 6 years ago. They were one of my favorite pairs. I have definitely gone through lots of gold earrings, having lost one of a couple of pairs. In fact, my daughter had one pair like mine. Both of us lost one of them, so I gave her mine so she would have a full pair.

I used to always wear clip on earrings and magnetic. I got my ears pierced about 3 years ago. I regretted the decision after a few months when my ears still would not heal. I regretted the decision for over 2 years after that. And only just last month, was I finally happy I had them pierced. I found out that I have allergies to any metal (even 18K gold) except titanium. So I now wear non-metal earrings and I stretched my lobes so that I could wear more styles. And now I love it!

A lot of people from my family don't have their ears pierced because they grow right back since we're even allergic to gold. My grandmother can wear 18K gold though. But the rest of us can't. My cousins ears grew back and a few of them tried 3 times. I'm going to tell them about the glass and plastic secret and maybe they'll want to try again, but I'm not sure. And then all my relatives on the other side can wear the cheapest mystery metal earrings and they're fine.

You know, it's funny how people are different. I can't wear anything but solid gold. We worried about our granddaughter having her ears pierced. She has olive skin and sometimes they develop keloids at the sight. I have a cousin who had to have part of an ear lobe removed because of it. But my granddaughter has never had any problems and can wear all the cheaper earrings, too.

I got mine done a couple of years ago now and have no regrets, i love wearing all different earrings and think they look good. I say it was a great idea to let your daughter have them done and 12 is a good age, but when I say children that are like 5 with massive hoops i feel really sorry for them!

I agree that some do get their children's ears pierced too young. I think a child needs to be old enough to make their own decision. I've seen them done on babies before they can even walk. To me, that is only the mother wanting the child's ears pierced. The child had no sayso in getting holes put in her ears. I love the smaller hoop earrings. But I also love pearls and diamonds. I have yet to own a set of diamonds, though. Maybe one day I will get a pair.

Barb, I have lost so many beautiful earrings. I can understand losing one but how do you lose a pair of them . I could relate a few stories but it's hard to know where to start and stop. Why is it that our very special favourite earrings are the ones that become lost?

I don't know how you lose a pair of earrings unless you just misplaced them or perhaps left them some place. I take mine off at the beautician's and put them in the side of my purse with my keys. I figure one of these days I will lose them that way. I try to link them together but sometimes they come apart. The way I lost my last one was trying to put it on after the beautician's. I was at a store and put them in, probably not getting one of them locked. Got home with only one earring in my ear.

I love to have diamond earring too, but just like you "that can wait" I sometimes forget to wear my earrings, and accessories. So sorry to hear about the burglary, hope the person is caught and in jail

I never take of my earrings or my watch. I do take off a necklace before going to bed when I wear one. They never caught the person who did this. The insurance adjuster just came down, assessed what was stolen, and within two weeks, we had the money for new stuff.

LOL, I have had my ears pierced about 5 times in my life, and eventually each piercing has closed. It got to a point in my teens where every so often I'd want to wear earings, so I'd just repierce the holes myself. But then I'd go too long without wearing earings and the holes would close up again. I have never been able to wear the clips, they are too uncomfortable. I got a pair of clips for my 5 year old daughter, but she screamed when I tried to put them on her.

My granddaughter has done the same thing as you. But I think lately she's got to where she wears them all the time. Me - I put them in and wear them constantly until I want to change to another pair. Your daughter is right; clips pinch your ears and they are too heavy.

I never thought I'd want mine pierced. I didn't want to mess up my earlobes. But my daughter wanted hers done; my cousin tried to tell her to wait until she was older, but she wouldn't. Dad said it was okay, so we took her to get them pierced. They did look good but I would not do it that day. But I did go the next day and never have regretted it. Don't think I'd go for the 2nd hole, though, although my daughter did many years ago.

I got mine done at a young age and then had to let them close as when the girl pierced of the ears it went in zigzagged. I have since gone and did them again and looking into getting a few more holes. I can honestly say that I like piercings and have not regretted getting any of them done. I am debating if I should just do the holes myself this time as they are $20 for a pair of earrings nad to get them done. Why so much now?

I got mine done at a jewelry store where we had our daughter's done. We only paid for the studs then. It's been so long I had no idea what they charged now. But I could never pierce my ears myself. Just the thought makes me sick. My daughter had a second set done on hers and the Ophthamologist she worked for did them for her.
