money - windy days

I saw this article, please read. Questions will follow. Good Samaritans rush in to save man’s cash TORRANCE, Calif. - A dozen bystanders rushed in to help a 70-year-old man after he stumbled leaving a Southern California bank, causing thousands of dollars to scatter in the wind. Ludwig Geier says hundreds of bills were "gone in no time," flying through the air and littering the First National Bank's parking lot in Torrance on Monday. Almost immediately, about a dozen bystanders rushed in to help. The machine shop owner says about 96 percent of the money was found. Questions - If you were in this parking lot, would you help him get his money? Would you pocket any? What about at a store, if you see a person drop money, do you tell them? If the cashier counts wrong and gives you too much, do you tell them? If they ask too little, do you tell them?

Yes, I'd stop what I was doing and help him if I could. I wouldn't pocket it, no. I would wonder why he had that much cash and was carrying it around that way, but I would try to help him. If he offered a reward for helping, that is his something else, but I wouldn't expect it. If I notice my change is wrong, yes I correct the cashier. I don't feel right otherwise. I have a guilty conscience about stuff like that. I don't feel good until I "fix" whatever happened. It gets on my husband's nerves because he says I feel guilty about stuff that I can't control, like if I pick a restaurant and something happens that his food is wrong, makes him sick or whatever. I apologize and/or I feel bad because I picked the restaurant and if I had picked something else it wouldn't have happened. It's a learned behavior, I guess. I've always been that way.

laglen hi oh yes I would help an elderly man try to get back his money as he probably desperately needed that money, I sure would not have pocketed it as he earned it , it is his not mine. At a store I have several times picked up a bill someone dropped and handed it to him. as for being charged too litle I always call t he clerks attention to it, and once the clerk got mad and said I never make mistakes, and screamed it at me, so I got mad and just took the money to avoid any further screaming from her.

I usually speak up, as I would not be able to sleep at night if I didn't! But every time I do I find that people are not prepared for my actions and they are kind of surprised!

oh dear i feel so sorry for the 70-year-old man. it must be a totally horrifying moment for him. though most of the money were found, he wouldn't know it at that point of time right? i applaud the people who help him 'catch' his money. these are really good samaritans. we can certainly do with more of them. as for myself, i'd definitely give a hand. the money belongs to him so it should go back to him. i will also tell others when i see that they've dropped money. i'll also be honest and 'fess up when the cashier give me more than i deserve. honesty is a good way to live my life. at least i can sleep well at night. cheers ;p

First reaction is to give it back to the person. Most people, I think, would react exactly that way. As for a store giving back to much change, I will correct them once. If they insist they are right, then I pocket the money. If they are that stupid to think that they are always right, then that is their mistake. When I get to the checkout I know within a $ of how much I need to pay, tax included (I've learnt to do this since stores have all prices computerized in their scanners)

I am the same way! I don't trust the computers! They forget to put changes in so it is important to pay attention!

If I was in a position to help, I would help. My husband and I ound a twenty-dollar bill on the floor of a grocery shop once, and we tured it in to the manager. Were either of us in that situation, we'd chase the money through the parking lot and down the street until we were able to hand him ack every last errat bill.

Most of the time I am pretty honest. There have been a few times where I was not. Once I found a wallet with money in it. It also had a driver's license. I could have easily returned it, but I did not and spent the money instead. (It was only about $60). About a month later I lost money myself, it just fell right out of my pocket, so I figure God was evening the score. Anytime I do soemthing dishonest, I do end up punished somehow, so I always try to do what's right.

If I were to see something like what happened there I think that I would collect what i could and give it back to the person that lost it. He was, after all, the one that worked for it, not me. I have also been in the situation where a cashier has given me too much money back and I have returned it. If I actually saw someone drop money I would give it back to them, but if I found it laying on the ground and no one was around I would probably keep it unless it was a large amout, I like to think that all people are like that, but unfortunately they arent.

Most people would help the man out automatically. It is the right thing to do and that is how most people act. As for stores, I will usually correct their error once. If they insist that they have not given me back too much change, then I gladly pocket my profit.

If I were in the parking lot I would have definitely helped him and did what I whatever I could have to find his money. I have been in situations where I saw someone drop money and I will call it to there attention. The couple of times it has happened they all looked really shocked like OMG, you gave it back. If I am in the store I will tell the person if they over or under change me as I am always thinking that they will be held financially responsible for the mistake and as well it could cost them their job. Recently I went into the ladies room in my office building and I found a small wad of money in the stall. It looked like maybe someone probally had the money in their pocket and while use the toilet it fell out. I was the only person in there at the time. I picked the money up, went back to my office and printed a note saying, "if you lost money in the ladies room 2nd floor, please contact me at phone number" I left the note there for 3 weeks and no one ever responded to the note. I assumed it must have been a visiting person to the building and not someone that worked in the building. I finally kept the money after I thought I had done everything that I could to find its owner. I am to weird about thinking that if I do the wrong thing, that worse will happen. So I always travel on the right side of the road.

Absolutely I would have helped that man or anyone else who would drop money. Money is not easy to come by for most of us, so accidentally dropping it could be a hazard for some. I would be eternally grateful if I dropped some money and someone helped me pick it back up. I also tell the cashier if she counts the money wrong. The world needs honest people and I like to think I am one of them. Best wishes!

Honestly speaking, if I was there I will also help. Not for the money but for the old man. A 70 year old man deserve a help during that time. I will not pocket his money,I will return to him.

Without a doubt, I would help him collect it and give it to him. It's his not mine. I have given back a cashier money when they have given me too much. People don't realize that if some stores drawers are short, the cashier has to make up for that out of their own pocket. At the same time, they can be fired. If I find money, it's mine. If I see someone drop it, it's their money. Otherwise, it's all stealing, plain and simple.
