Have you ever accidentally taken something home from your job?

Something that you are supposed to leave there? I got home from work today, and I heard my walkie-talkie crackle. And when I took that out, a dog lead was also in the pocket. Luckily, I am going back tonight to let out the dogs, and I can put the walkie-talkie back on the charger, and the lead back on the holder. How about you all? Have you accidentally found something from work in your pockets or bags when you got home? What did you do about it?

Ah, that is a lot of stuff. But, I am sure that, if you are helping out with projects, stuff like that happens. A pocket is convenient as a temporary storage place. Sometimes, we just forget to take stuff back out before we leave. Thank you for responding!

Well I consider school my job, so yes. Before, I had to take a book home for a reading assignment and do a paper on it once I finished. Well I did the paper, and I never turned in the book! A year later, I found the book in my room. xD

Oh my! Here, they would charge us for the book if we took it and did not replace it. Did they send you any sort of notice, or did you return it?

Ah, okay. I remember one year, they were giving away old, beaten up math books. They were years above our level, but they offered it to us anyway, and I took one. I had it for about ten years, and I looked back at and laughed. What used to seem so hard was now easy. I do not remember what I did with it, but I do not have it now. It felt so weird taking home a textbook to own.

No, my teacher didn't notice. It wasn't a large textbook, just a small paperback book. I didn't know whether or not to take it back considering it was a year later. I felt so guilty, it was horrible! Now I don't feel as bad because I remember how beat up the book was. :S

Borrowing jewelry from the place that you work for a theme day is a good idea, especially if the employers are alright with it. Themed days sound fun. Thank you for responding!

I brought many items from the work place, the moment i step outside the office i immediately realise that i have got something with me which i shouldnt have. I then promptly go and return it to the security. This things happen and i often tell my HR department about this which keeps me out of trouble.

I am glad to hear that you take responsibility for everything, and that you make sure that you tell both security and your superiors. Thank you for responding!

Yup I have taken a couple of pens from work. Well it's somewhat an instinct that I place things in my pocket. So that's how it happens. Usually I take home those small things but of course I return them in the morning anyway.

That is good to hear that you return them. Pens are so easy to put in the pocket and forget about. The people at work with ponytails will sometimes put one in there, forget about it, and put a different one in on the opposite side.

That is convenient. You must work in a large place, or somewhere like a bank or a courthouse. That is very interesting, though. Thank you for your response.

I have accidentally taken a master key from a school. I was substitute teaching at the time and walked away with the key. They called me in apanic at my house and I had to trot they key back there. I was kind of embarassed at the time. Oh well, those things happen from time to time. At least you got it back.

Yes, things do happen. At least you were able to return it to them. I am sure that they weren't angry, but relieved. If such a key got into the wrong hands, then it wouldn't go over too well. Also, I find it interesting that you are a substitute teacher. How do you like that?

valenas I guess you could call this accidental. I was let go,the euphemism for you are fired for being the best page she had but I was also nearly 80 so had to let me go.well like all the employees I had a key to the library's back door. So when I was thus forcibly retired, I was understandably upset and also scheduled for surgery so I never thought at all about keys as the surgery was utmost on my mind. so later recovered from surgery I now noticed I had not given back the key to the back door of the library. So what I thought ,I wont use it and its torture trying to get it off my key ring so there it will stay.

I am sorry to hear that you were let go, it sounds like you really liked that job. I am glad that, even though you still have the key, you are not using it. So many people would have retaliated against their employers. You seem like such a good person. Thank you for responding!

I was in a hurry to go home bec. I need to cook dinner for my boyfriend.I work in a call center and we use headsets to take in calls and after work we should leave it in our locker. And you are not allowed to bring it home or else you'll be terminated for bringing home an office supply. Well since I'm in a rush that day.I swiped my card and go to the guard station to have my bag check..when I was already out and at the steps of our building..I noticed I was still holding my headset.I rushed back to guard station and told the guard " hey guard I went out of the office building holding my headset and you didn't notice that I was holding it.." of course I said that in a angry tone of voice but I was actually smiling and went back to the office building and put it in my locker...hmmm I brought it home probably I can talk with friends on chat.lol....just kidding..well at least I was honest and of course I don't want to be charge and terminated for bringing/keeping my headset home.;p

You could have been terminated? That is a scary thought. It is good that you noticed before it was too late! It seems that your job doesn't quite understand that accidents happen, and if you would have accidentally brought it home with you, it would be unfair to fire and charge you over a one time thing.

LOL I'm thinkin' you work at a dog kennel...LMAO I used to take the walkie talkies AND the leads home ALL the time...and you wouldn't believe the number of uneaten dog treats I used to have to remove before I did laundry =) I have worked at a couple of dog kennels and that's happened to me a LOT. =)

Haha, close! I work at a vet clinic, I am just part of the kennel staff. So, sometimes I have to go up front and help the technicians out and everything. We actually have leads all over our house, between me and my mother, since we both work there. And pens, because we're always carrying those around. But, I've never really taken a walkie-talkie home. It is interesting to hear that you've also worked in the same position that I have. Again I must ask, are we the same person? And, I was afraid that I would never hear from you again, I haven't seen you around in a while. How have you been?

Thank you for responding. That is probably what most people take home from work, because people are always reaching for a pen or pencil, then pocketing it for later use, and they forget to put it back.
