Yes, it is true. A Chimney 'swallowed' a girl! Then she fell 14 stories to the basement into the ash pit of a furnace. And lived ! Not only that, she had only minor injuries. Yes, it really says in the article that the chimney 'swallowed' the girl! Read all about it here. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,396564,00.html I say that was one lucky girl but that she could increase her luck by not climbing 25 foor ladders and playing on top of a chimney. What do you say?

Yes, she was very lucky. But as you point out herluck could increase if she was more careful on where she goes to check the view, but kids are like that and rarely think about the danger in anything. I remember a few things I did as a kid that when I think about them now my first thought is " Was I crazy????"

Lol at first I thought it said "Chaney swallowed". I figured it was just another of his mishaps like the time he shot his friend with bird shot. That is amazing, she's lucky she didn't smother in the ash.

I'll bet a lot of the minor injuries are abrasions from the side of the chimney slowing down the fall. Otherwise, a few feet of ash would not save someone from that fall.

I think the guardian aangels were at ply here and they cushioned her from all harm-otherwise how else would explain such a tricky situation-how can anybody survive 14 storeys?

Indeed, perhaps their was divine intervention. I'm not saying angels don't sometimes watch over us.

She is a bit of a daredevil. They need a squadron of guardian angels!

This pretty much strengthens my belief that when your time is up; its up and that maybe we all have a predetermined time and place when we are supposed to pass on! To fall 14 stories and live and to suffer only minor injuries is nothing short of a miracle. I remember when I too was around that age and I certainly never considered the consequences of most of the things I did. So her playing habits certainly come as no surprise. I look back to places I used to swim, bridges I used to jump off into water from and trees etc that I used to climb and wonder what the heck I was ever thinking! She is a very, very lucky girl and it is a shame that she isn't old enough to buy a lottery ticket!

That is one of the strangest stories I've ever heard. I've never heard of a chimney swallowing someone before. That's so weird. That is extremely lucky. Well I guess now she has a story to tell her future children and grandchildren.

It is the sort of thing that becomes a family legend.

Yup sure enough she was fortunate. Well said, she should not have climbed so high up the ladder. I wish she was more careful, and also her parents chked on her.

Unless they are totally stupid the girl and her parents will do better next time.

Wow, amazing! That's quite a remarkable story! Still, she should never try that again. She might not be so lucky the next time around.

redyellowblackdog hi what a lucky little girl, 14 stories and no broken bones. she must have had a lot of guts to climb 25 foot'ladders and play atop a chimney where were her parents, and why did she get onto a ladder.werent there people around there to oversee ladders and other stuff? All I can say is her parents should stop that sort of behavior before she gets killed.

When you read this kind of news , you feel that , luck plays a major role in our life.. In year 2006, October 8 , earth quake, one lady came out of rubble , alive ,after ,56 days. She was there , without food and water....

Apparently she got into the chimney just messing around doing what kids do. You know, climbing 25 foot ladders and getting swallowed up by the chimney.

I've heard an extreme case. someone fell down from an airplain and survived. that's an very old story. I heard that at least twenty years ago.

I heard it too. A Russian paratrooper survived by falling on the slope of a very high mountain that had very deep snow. So, he did not splat directly into the ground but hit a glancing blow and the snow cushioned him while he slid down the side of the mountain.

This is a totally amazing story. The girl is lucky to be alive. I think you and another responder are right; she must have touched the sides of the chimney repeatedly, which broke her fall. Two feet of ash would not have saved her otherwise after a 14-story fall. One lucky girl!

She was just learning how to become a rock legend. Instead of yelling I broke my leg I would have yelled I am still alive. If I was her I think I would stay away from chimneys from now on.

Hey, she could recreate this event as a rock video. Done right it would be a big hit. Even write a special song comemorating what happened.
