I am not that big of a craft person, but I do like to knit.

However, I spend most of my spare time on the computer, writing, or myLotting. My question is, do you find the computer cutting in to the time you used to spend crafting? What are your suggestions for making sure you get your craft time in?

Doesn't it just! I find that I work more when I'm at my mom's or in the car waiting than I do at home where my computer is!

Well, I have been on for over a year to get these numbers. I know some people seem to post and respond a lot more than I do, but I only have so many ideas. I do find that before I found this pogo game, I would stop and bead for a while - but even that's pretty much gone to the way side as I try to catch up with my myloting and play the dumb game!

Hello ElicBxn. I can see by your very high, impressive number of myLot posts that you are experiencing my same problem! That is funny, you get more things done when you aren't home or while you are in the car, than when your computer is near by. For the past couple of weeks, I've established some limits on my computer work which has allowed me to do some reading and other things. And, I find that I use the computer time well and get just as many posts done, even though I'm limiting the time. Thanks for sharing.

You have to be disciplined....LOL...I still find plenty of time for both writing and crafting. I only allow myself so much time mylotting. I try to be somewhat on a schedule so I get a little of each one done when necessary.

Oh, that explains it. I can't stand to be on a schedule at home because I have to be on one at the office. But, of course, it's wise to decide in advance what I will do when and for how long so that I get to do a little of each task. When I'm home, I just don't want to follow a schedule. You are right again, jillhill.

I work on online but find myself spending time just surfing and/or mylotting. I don't knit as much as I used to and I think that's why. Time just gets away from me!

Hi peavey. Yes, several of us mylotters have acknowledged the difficulties with getting to other things we want to do because we are on the computer so much. Reading and knitting and exercising have been 3 activities I've really been missing. But, I am making a concerted effort to not be on the computer for longer than 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a time in hopes of switching over to reading or knitting or something else that needs to be done. I've gotten my exercise in for the last 3 days and it does feel great. Good luck to you in terms of getting back to your knitting, peavey. Thank you for sharing.

Oh yes, especially since I discovered Ravelry I seem to spend ages on teh computer. However I'm usually knitting at the same time so I do at least get some knitting time in.

Hi nancygibson. I am unfamiliar with Ravelry. But I know how the computer in general can pull me away from doing other things. That's cool that you can both knit and do the Ravelry thing at the same time. I appreciate your comments. Take care.

Pick a time to craft like an hour or two when you shut the computer down. Plan it in, schedule it in, whatever you want to call it. Or just wait until it rains up here because it rains almost every day and raises heck with the computer.

Hi writersedge. For the past 2-3 days I've made more effort to shut off the computer after 1 1/2 hours. You can't believe the stuff I've gotten done: I've gone 2 miles on the treadmill each day for the last 3 days. I've read for about 45 minutes each of the last 2 days. So, I'm feeling pretty good about limiting my time. I just type as fast as I can to get all my myLot emails taken care of. Thanks so much for you suggestions. I'm committed to keep putting them in to action. Take care.

Hi PearlGrace, wasn't it you that said for me to sign off half an hour earlier than I should so I could go to bed to read my books? LOL. I love to crochet and used to sit in the armchair in the evenings and crochet blankets, this also kept me warm in the winter too, but like you tend to find that I am on the computer more. It is all about getting the balance right, maybe taking one whole day and not turning computer on at all or limiting the time. Ellie :D

Hi ellie333. Yes, it truly was me who said to turn off the computer 30 minutes earlier. I have been missing my regular exercise and reading also. So, for the last couple of days I've exercised (walked at least 2 miles a day) and read for 30 or 45 minutes, so I'm feeling quite good about it. You are right, we are all struggling with that balance thing. I even had time for swimming the last couple of days. Thanks for joining in, ellie333.

I definitelhy think using the computer cuts into my crafting time! I am big into scrapbooking, but don't make enough time to do it. I did the other day though, and was happy I did. My suggestion is to just make yourself get off the computer! It may be easier said than done though.

Hello dopey22girl. Well, we are in the same boat. Your suggestion is excellent. I just have to get off the computer! Plus, it's been cutting in to my reading time, too, and I can't stand that. There are a couple of small knitting projects I want to get to, so we'll see if that happens. Thanks for your suggestion.

Wow, cher913, that is very impressive. You set a schedule and stick to it. Sounds like you are a brilliant time manager. Hope you sell a lot of your crafts. I, too, often have the tv on in the background when I'm knitting, surfing the net, or whatever.

My girls and I have gotten into making beaded earrings! I want to start selling them but I need to make them! LOL I know the computer cuts into my time. LOL I work via the computer part time, mylot, blog, etc. I am going to try and start devoting one hour a day to making earrings. I just haven't decided when I am going to do this. LOL

Hi kimbers867. This jewelry making stuff sounds like a lot of fun. And I do love beaded things. Yes, this computer cuts in to all our time, doesn't it? I think it's very smart to set a goal of 1 hour per day to make the earrings. When I set goals for home tasks, I do them FIRST, before turning on the computer. That way, I will probably get them done. Good luck with your jewelry making and sales, kimbers 867.

Well, yea me too! Either I am mylotting, or completing my internet projects or writing. It seems that I don't really craft anymore (I like scrapbooking). I don't even have proper time to schedule my reading session is. There is so much I want to do but I just get so absorbed on the internet! Now I am trying to force myself to scrapbook or read at least once a week. And I try hard to make sure that happens.

Good for you, wondericequeen! It takes great resolve to fit everything in our busy schedules, doesn't it? Plus, if you are like me, once I get on the computer I stay on for at least a couple of hours, or even more. I do best when I do the other activities I want to do first, before switching on the computer. Hope you get some scrapbooking AND reading done today. Take care.

The computer cuts into the time I would spend doing anything else. LOL I love to crochet and sew, but I rarely do that. However, I am on the computer every day. I also like to read and don't do that as much as I would like, either. I play violin and need to be practicing, but what am I doing? I'm on the computer. So, in answer to your question, yes, the computer does cut into the time I spend crafting, along with a lot of other things I could and should be doing.

Hello myfanwy65. Boy, it sounds like so many of us are hooked on the computer, doesn't it? I'm with you on the reading, I used to read so much and now, I am lucky to finish one book a month! That's dreadful! We need to make a pact to set goals daily about what we want to accomplish BEFORE the computers get turned on. I did that just today and you can't believe all the tasks I got done before noon today as I didn't turn on my computer til 1 p.m.

I'm not on myLot as much as I'd like to be, but there are times I find myself here and away from crafting table. If I thought I could knit and do myLot, I would be way ahead in my knitting. As it is, I'm way behind in my knitting and I know I'll need to get started soon or I won't have enough scarves/hat sets to offer in the fall/winter craft shows (plus I donate a few sets to a couple different charities) It's funny how many times (like I did 5 minutes earlier) that I say I'm going to make one more post, or one more response and get back to my jewelry making. And then an hour later, I'm still typing away on my keyboard. Okay...it's time I get back to my creating... hopefully.

Hello creationsbyrobin. It sounds like you are quite the knitter! And very successful, too, selling all those scarves and such for the craft shows. I know what you mean about staying on myLot longer than you thought you would. Well, I've got 3 or 4 more posts to follow up, then I'm outta here. Hope you can find your way back to your knitting.
