if you only had a few minutes to get out of your house, what would you take?

here in toronto, canada, yesterday there was a number of huge explosions at a propane plant which lead police and fire fighters to evacuate the area. my question today is if you only had a few minutes to gather stuff from your house (barring the usual stuff like family members, pets, medication) what would you take? here is the link for the article. http://www.thespec.com/News/Local/article/416394

Hi cher, I just posted a discussion about this, but wanted to comment on your discussion as well. As I said earlier I can't imagine being interested in taking anything other than basic necessities. I think that making sure everyone, including pets of course, got out safely and as quickly as possible would be my major concern. Medications, if there were any of importance, might come in my mind. I am so thankful that there were no more injuries than there were in the Toronto blaze. Blessings.

It was amazing that more people weren't killed. It was really lucky it happened at 4:00 AM, if it had of happened later in the day, there would have been people and kids out playing, could have been a lot worse.

I would take my purse and my bible, and grab as much of my grandma's china as I can. And also my books. I have my financial records on my pen drive and that is in my purse, and if I have enough time, take my best dress. Oh and I would shove my husband out the door. I guess it would mean most of what i have would be a total loss so I would not like this to happen. NOw if I were killed in the explosion, I would not mind, but I would hate to have to replace stuff at this stage in life. I mean I might not make it to 130 years.

After a long wrestle with getting the cats in their carriers I think I would be lucky to get anything out! I guess I would grab hubby's guitars.

Well, it's hurricane season in FL and we are advised to have our hurricane kit ready. It's got a waterproof zippered plastic case of all our important papers--latest tax return, homeowners' insurance and life insurance policies, bank account info, passports, that sort of thing. I would also take a big box of pictures that I already have boxed up, and my purse. I'd probably be throwing things in a box or basket on my way out: the "bill" basket where I keep all current bills and papers, my iPod, and my laptop computer. That's probably about all I could get out in a hurry.

Pictures and important documents would be first on my list. I have tried to scan all old pictures to digital files, and given copies to others so they would be safe. But, there are still many photos, and paper documents that would be sorely missed if they were destroyed in a fire.

I'd grab my wedding ring and cocktail ring. I don't wear them when I am home since they get in the way. Also would grab my purse while yelling for the dog and cat to follow. They would both do it and hopefully in a timely manner. Almost everything else in the house can be replaced except for a couple of antiques. Photos of our kids and grandkids could be salvaged at a later date as long as the computer didn't blow.

Yes, that was quite the explosion, I live just outside of TO, and it was really something. Anyhow, I think I would only worry about myself, and as you mentioned, my medication, and my animals. There's no way I would leave them behind. I would grab my purse, so, in there would be insurance numbers, bank cards etc. I would also grab a change of clothes for a couple of days, that's about it. Oh, and if I could, my laptop so I would have the bizillion pictures I have on there.

Hi cher, it’s nice to know that I have a few minutes instead of a few seconds to stay in the house, so I believe I still have enough time to collect the essential stuffs before leaving there. All the important documents like birth, car and house certificates and etc are kept in the bank safe, so what I have to take is the keys of my vehicle, laptop, cell phone and purse. I hope I could leave the place together with my car and safe from the explosion. I don’t want to lose my phone as it’s the most important communicated device. Yeah, I will take down the pictures of the scene using my cell phone as well. ... besides my hubby, laptop is another intimate partner of me that always accompanies me to spend most of my time. I couldn't live without my purse for all my credit and ATM cards, ID card and cash are in it. Happy posting and take care.

I'd grab my cat and my CPU if I could. I have fireproof safes so my documents would be safe. Other than our cat, Morgana, everything else is replacable. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Hi cher, it is a hard situation that I never had luckly. The first thing that I will take from home must be my two parrots, the second my papers and money. After that if I have time I take some clothes. I think that with this I will can live a while in any place untill the things became OK again and I can return to my house.

I would grab my photo albums and thing I got from my Grandmother. Of course the first thing I would do is make sure everybody and the pets where out of the house. Then I would go for the photos and mementos.

Our paper actually ran this question on their website a couple of years ago, and I answered, not knowing my answer as well as others would make it into the paper. I didn't realize some of them would get published (with our name), or I might not have answered. Because one of the things I mentioned was my wig! Like I want people knowing I wear a wig, lol. And yeah, people definitely saw it because a lot of them mentioned it to me. They didn't care that I wore a wig, it was just a problem I made up in my head. But I would definitely go for my wig and wallet. I don't want to have to get my drivers license made again!

You may take a long with you the most useless thing, you might only realized later that, you have forgotten the most important thing.I will make sure that my daughter and my wife escape with me. and we can start afresh, life is just too precious, i will get out with my life in my body.
