Do all your kids eat vegetables?

Philippines

My kids don't and that is my big problem. They rather choose to go hungry than eat vegetables with their rice. There is no use forcing them to eat because they really don't eat no matter how I tried to cook it in tasty flavorings. How did you manage to let your kids eat vegetables? I want to know your ideas and techniques to convince them. thanks..

My kids eat veggies. I have one who will eat anything (such as spinach), and the other two are a little more picky, but still will eat some veggies. One of the things I learned was to substitute. My kids are not so hot on peas, but love baked beans. Still a veggie right? I also hide veggies. My kids love pizza. There are so many things you can hide under a layer of pizza sauce and cheese. Spinach, mushrooms, etc. They love applesauce, and I give them all the fruits they can eat, instead of pop tarts, gummi snacks, fruit roll ups, they get apples, bananas, plums, strawberries.

Oh!! that's sounds good!! But I tell you what? when I let them eat pizza with veggies, they will eat the pizza but put away all the veggies in there. that's how difficult they are to let them eat vegetables.

My son is 6 and doesn't like vegies at all. He's just like his daddy as I'm the only one that loves vegies. The most he's ever eaten is raw baby carrots and the occasional lettuce and diced up tomatoes in a burrito. I remember watching a show on tv about some famous actors wife who wrote a book about getting kids to eat their veges. I think she purees a lot of the veges and mixes them in with the chicken nugget batter and all sorts. I'm going to see if I can find a copy at the library to borrow. I don't remember her name either so I hope I can find it. It might give me lots of ideas.

I have a two year old and she eats most veggies. She even likes broccoli!!! No lie, only steamed though she doesn't really like it cold although she'll eat it and then spit it back out. Hopefully she continues to eat her veggies. She also doesn't rally like mashed potatoes but she'll eat baked potatoes.

My kids actually eat most vegetables pretty good. They are just used to it because from the time they were eating solid foods they were given vegetables. One thing I could suggest is there a cookbooks out there with recipes for hiding veggies in your kids food. Jessica Seinfeld wrote one. She was on a couple of the morning shows a few months ago talking about it. Another thing I saw was the v8 fusion drinks that have both a serving of vegetables and of fruit.

That is really a common problem in the NOW generation. Kids just snob the foods that are nutritious and exchange it with junk food. I have no kids of my own but I heard from others that they blend the veggies and mix it with the food that they cook. Or they cook the vegetables with meat or fish. Sure enough they would choose the meat and put away the vegetables but is =veggies tastes good they surely like it.

I can relate with your kids. Hahaha! When I was young I seldom eat vegetables. It seems like it makes me puke when I swallow them. I remember my mother cook vegetables and cut them into small pieces then mixes with the rice. Right there I can eat them with the rice.

ah!! ok that's a good idea. cut them into smaller pieces and mixed with the rice? maybe fry the rice also? and what kind of vegetables are those that can go with rice?

You can mix carrots, potatoes, broccoli in fried rice. Or if you like green peas, you may do so. Kids will like it. I love fried rice also especially when there's ham and eggs with it.

Dear friend, I hope to give the better vegetables to kids would be the way one could prepare a dish or food according to their taste. May be a better salad or ice cream salad could make the kids like as mostly most kids like ice creams and may a vegetable salad too. Hence I hope if the kids like any tasty food just add vegetables may be they like it with that.

My son will eat some vegetables and not others. I normally stick to the ones I know he will eat for him. Corn, green beans, potatoes, broccoli, carrots.... My daughter who is only 19 months old will eat just about anything you put in front of her. I even feed her veggies that I will not eat. She loves them, so I go out of my way to cook them just for her.

I have three kids, two of them is on toddler years. When the kids were younger they don't like eating vegetables, they also don't like eating meat. What they want is only rice and soup or sauces. Now that they have grown a bit, I don't what happened or how it happened but suddenly they love meats, specially chicken, they also now eat vegetables, whatever type it is. They're favorite is string beans and squash. I would cook this with coconut milk and to them it would be like feast. They really love that dish. They also love cabbage and leafy vegetables, but sometimes when they don't like it, I tricked them into saying that there is no vegetables in their meal. They would gladly eat it not knowing that i put shredded pieces of vegetables on it. In fact I am the one who learned how to eat vegetables from them. Before I don't eat string beans and since it was their favorite I got curious on how it tasted and tried it, well I kind a like it and now I am also into it. I was not able to give you some tip, because as you can see, it happened to us the other way around.

please insert vegetables (greeny) with the food the kids like. Example: If your kid likes bread and butter, please add the greeny vegetables in between ( that too the vegetables they like ) the bread and can give. Also mix the vegetables likes in the mixie and put them in dosa and also in between idly and make masala idly. A change is always welcomed by the kids

that trick won;t work with my kids because they will just put away the veggies and eat the rest of the food without the veggies and sometimes they will just tire their back and wouldn't eat.

My oldest(10 years old) LOVES veggies, he will eat almost anything(so far I think zucchini is the only veggie he doesn't like). My youngest(8 years old) is more pick and choose as to what he will eat(he is a BIG fruit eater though). He loves cucumbers, carrots, and corn mostly. He doesn't like broccoli but will eat it with cheese on or if I do it in a stirfry. He also doesn't like peppers or onions but I usually cook them into things and half the time he doesn't even know they're there. He loves sweet potatoes, but only the way I make them for some reason, elsewhere he won't eat them lol. My kids both love salads though, and when we make sandwiches we usually load them up with veggies and they love that. I know I'm luckier then most with my kids. I fed them EVERYTHING right from the start and they started eating solids very young, I contribute the way I got them started to how well they eat today. There are some veggies that I don't care for(turnip and squash mostly) and my mom would make a lot of those ones for them whenever we ate with them, so they got a taste for almost everything.

wow!! very good that they are trained to eat vegetables. You have a good technique in cooking it that they really would have the appetite of eating. i wish I could do the same to my kids. It;s really hard when kids don;t eat veggies.

All my kids will eat brocoli, but they don't love it, my son has to have ranch dressing with it, even if it is cooked, all three of them like corn, and all three of them like peas. Both of my sons like lettuce, my youngest will eat anything I give him and loves zuchini, the other two won't. So as much as I would like my daughter to eat more vegetables, I guess I am lucky she will eat those few. All three kids really love fruit.

My kids were born in the veggie garden. We even try new things and they love em'. If its cold veggies then make sure some Ranch or other dip is available so they can still get the nutrients while thinking they are drowning them in dipping sauce. You have to start early too, if you wait till they are older it will be harder. If its cooked veggies then try boiling them in chicken broth, it gives them a nice flavor and it doesn't take away any nutrients. Or you could just deny them television or dessert, you're the mom, "Because I said so!" That always works.

I don;t know if that denying with their favorite things when they don't eat veggies will be applicable to my kids. They just go without that as long as they will not be force to eat vegetables. But maybe I would try putting flavor on it.

It can be a big problem to get children to eat vegetables. It would be best to camouflage them as you cannot expect your kids to eat a bowl of vegetables alongwith their food. Try out some interesting recipes to make them like it and include finely cut vegetables in the dishes. Noodles or fried rice with a whole lot of vegetables and meat can be a good idea. Try the interesting recipes here http://www.ifood.tv/network/quick/recipes

I think I have to try whatever i can.. to let them eat vegetables. In this time of crisis vegetables are cheaper than meat and they are nutritious than any other meat or fish out there.

My kids ate everything. Both our boys and love to eat, as do I lol. I gave them salad and fresh vegetables from the time they could chew them. I always used fresh or frozen when serving them cooked. On a rare occasion I would use canned but they never really liked them. I used to give them carrots and peanut butter or celery and cream cheese as snacks. Maybe your kids will like them better raw or as a snack.
