Much of Africa is poor and whilst some countries have tourism others don't have this and are really poor. The world's 20 poorest countries are all in Africa with the exception of Nepal. I think that if people visit a country it helps its economy. Have you ever been to Africa. If so where? If not would you like to go there? Which do you think are the countries in Africa which tourists go to?

Hi I was born in South Africa, Durban to be precise and spent the first 30 years of my life there. Well, apart from a few years between 1989/99 and 2002/3 while I was travelling in Europe and the US. As a kid we travelled a lot around the country so I guess I could say I have seen most of the 'places to see' in South Africa (Cape Town, Garden Route, Kruger Park, Drakensberg .... and a few other great places). I have also been to Mozambique (as a 4 year old) and to Zimbabwe (12 years old). As a 20 something I went to Mauritius and even had a chance to go on a fantabulous trip to Egypt - all expenses paid - but somehow it didn't happen (long story). Finally, my husband and I went to the Comoros Islands for our honeymoon in 2001 - heaven on earth! Violetdreams

Wow! Thank you so very much for your excellent response about all the places that you have visited in Africa. I would love to see Cape Town, the Garden Route and Mauritius. I imagine the the Comoros was a delightful honeymoon destination. I would adore it there I am sure. I have been to the Seychelles and loved the beaches there. It must be quite wealthy compared to most other African countries. Your life sounds very interesting Violet Dreams. You are lucky to have been born in sunny Durban and had trips in your childhood to Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Thanks for saying your opinion about how South Africa is these days. I looked at a list of the world's richest and poorest countries a couple of years ago. I was surprised to see where South Africa was on that list.

OOps, after all that I forgot. South Africa used to be a very rich country - what with the gold, diamonds, etc... and about 15 or 20 years back it was a country on the verge of being 1st world. It was a truly great place to live - this said after spending a couple of years exploring the world. Sadly, in the last 10+ years it has rapidly lost ground and is rapidly (if not already there) heading towards officially becoming a 3rd world country again. This I find very sad as the people and the country have so much to offer and are wonderful people ... they just really need to sort out the crime level and the internal fighting between all the different African tribes and then go from there. Unfortunately, that is not an easy task since there is so much corruption in the Government and the Police Force - makes it hard for the law abiding citizens who do still live there. Please note everyone - this is my opinion and I am entitled to it, no matter what you believe. You too are entitled to your opinion. I haven't written this to start a political discussion/argument. Yes, I would be jealous of your friend. It must be interesting and rewarding to work in Africa. I am a primary school teacher and when my children are grown up it might be worthwhile for me to work there. Safety is important when traveling in a remote area. The Masai tribe were so friendly, curious and welcoming. The pair of lions I saw looked so laid back and it was a joy to take photos of them. Stopping by a tree I wondered why and there was a leopard asleep in the branches. I hope that you go one day and have an excellent time.

I have only been to North Africa: Tunisia I'd like to go to Ghana, and several other countries I think most tousists go to countires like Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, Egypt, Marokko and Tunisia. I do not think there are many tourists in Somalia, Sudan Sierra leone and countries that are in internal war or are extremely poor.

Yes, I have been to Tunisia and found it more Arabic than the rest of Africa. I hope that you go to Ghana one day. It is a shame when war starts up in an African country. I would like to go to South Africa to see Cape Town then go up to Zambia to see the Victoria Falls and then go over to Mozambique to see its palm fringed beaches. Thanks for your excellent response.

Thank you! Hope you get to travel more in Africa too. I have an old work mate that is from Ghana, and that moved there with his family from Norway a couple of years ago. We have an agreement that I am going there to see him. I hope I wil be able to. Another work friend has already been there and found it wonderful.

I flew home from Kenya and got a superb view of the pyramids from the air. Wow! I would love to go back and see them from ground level next time. I have always fancied going to Madagascar to see the lemurs. I would love to go to Cape Town and I have heard it is safe there compared to Johannesburg. Malaria is a possible danger in Africa is some localities. I hope that you go to Egypt and then to Madagascar. One of my friends had her honeymoon and she has photos of her husband and her in Madagascar. It looks beautiful there.

Hello maximax. I have never been to Africa, but my young lady boss has been there. She worked in Ethiopia for two years working as an interpreter. I admire her to have such a good chance of working there. If I could get a chance, I would also be very happy to go without any hesitation. I love the challenge to work in a foreign country, especially where there are so many wild animals of different kinds. It would satisfy my curiosity for free. Thank you.

Hello my friend Williamjisir. It is interesting that your boss worked in Ethiopia. It had a famine when I was a teenager sadly. I hope that you will go to work overseas at some stage of your life. I think it would be amazing to walk home and see elephants walking along or giraffes grazing. Thanks for your lovely response.

Probably Kenya because a college professor I worked for during work study had been there. Probably Uganda because one of the guys I knew from college worked there. Is it Libia, Liberia? One of them that was an "intentional state" - a country created with specific intentions, I think to take back free blacks after many had been enslaved, but I'm not sure about this, you just hear different things over time. But those three are of the most interest to me right now.

I hope that you go to Kenya and Uganda one day. I loved it there, seeing the wild animals and meeting the friendly poor but happy local people. It is interesting to meet other travelers and talk about where they have been to. I watched a documentary on television about illegal immigrants. They travel up through Africa to Libya and pay a boatman to take them to an Italian island. However if they are unlucky they will be caught by the Maltese. Some men were on a boat that sank and they jumped on a tuna net. The Italian government pitied them so allowed them one year in Italy. One of my friends went to the Canary Islands and he saw a boat load of illegal immigrants coming in. This is unusual because in that part of the Atlantic there is good security.

I've been to Ghana twice (when my parents were living there). We stopped at Ethiopia once and at Kenya the other time. I really liked Kenya. Next year, the kids and I will be visiting Sierra Leonne....going from what I heard, I doubt if there's much to enjoy there like in Ghana. But I guess I'll wait and form my opinions after I get there.

Hi Green Line. I hope that you go to Africa one day because there is much to see. It is an amazing experience to go on a safari to see wild animals, the market places have excellent souvenirs and the local people are fascinating to meet. Yes, I commented that 19 out of 20 countries are in Africa (the poorest in the world). Nepal is in Asia and countries there like India and China seem to be becoming more wealthy. I must have been wonderful when you visited India. I would love to go there.

It all goes towards the fact that Africa has rejected the means of commercial progress for so long. They have also rejected and abused the help they have been offered by their former masters. Its sad. Nobody says the colonialists were saints but they have tried to help Africa make progress. Today they abuse the aid they get so much everything is now limited.

So are you from Africa? I agree that life hasn't been fair to the Africans. I think if the British who invaded the continent a few centuries ago did a better job at developing the country then they wouldn't be so poor today. But at the same time there has to be some balance in this world. If there are rich countries, then there should be poor ones as well. Too bad it happens to be in Africa. :(

Hello, There is poor places all in africa, but there are resort areas in mostly all parts. South Africa is very popular for the animals and safari tours . Ghana/Accra is another place that people go and I would like to go there too . I would love to see the culture ,villiage life. beaches, jungles, wild animals . I would esp love to go because a dear friend of mine lives in ghana . There are hard times there as well. I know that many people over there have a dream to come to america to better one sellf . My aunt worked in Nigria and that is another place that is a little better off . It is where the movies and stars flock . Many people that go there to Africa go there for mission work . I know I have always wanted to join the peace corp and help !

In my view, certain countries which are close to Europe are better developed than many many countries, for example, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia. Mostly, they offer an attractive tourist trips.

If I am only a millionaire and lots of money I will surely donate some of it in Africa's poorest countries but since It will never be come true I will just say to all that lets all help this countries and also those people who live there especially the children who are suffering malnutrition.

There is a old Chinese saying: the worst thing is not poverty, but inequity, which is the reasons for territorial war, human right depreciation and so on. The tourism maybe help them, but if inequity is still exist, the tourism will be another resource arosing inequity as gold in South Africa, and oil in eastern Africa.
