Have you ever made anything for dinner that tasted wonderful, BUT looked

absolutely awful? Well the casserole we had this evening was such a dish. It was DELICIOUS but looked like a science experiment when served on the plate. I think it was the cheese that made it look like an unfinished mess. Anyone have a similar experience?

I make this beef and gravy dish in the crockpot... my kids call it dog food because it looks and smells like dog food. It's stew beef with cream of mushroom soup, golden mushroom soup, cream of celery soup, and a packet of onion soup mix, then serve over noodles. It's excellent, but it just looks weird. My mom used to make this broccoli pasta thing we called puke. I forget how she made it, but my brother once said it looked like puke, so the name caught on. When I'd ask what's for dinner, mom would say puke. LOL

Even if it tasted good, I don't think I could eat it if it was called puke. Lad you enjoyed it. Alot of things coming from the crockpot could look better.

My kids are so gullible, they think my dish called dog food really is dog food, and they still eat it and ask for seconds. But in our house growing up, everything had names like that. We also had a regular dish called sh*t. It was mom's version of SOS, or sh*t on a shingle. Most people call cream chipped beef that name, but mom's version was more like tuna noodle casserole on toast, but without the noodle. So a couple times a month we'd have puke, and a couple times a month we'd have sh*t, and we ate it and were happy about it, lol. I love telling my kids that now. Ya know when I was growing up all we ate was sh*t and puke, and we were greatful for it. My kids look at me like I'm nuts, lol.

We used to have SOS all the time when I was a kid. We had it made with chipped beef and with tuna and a few times with peas. My parents never called it S*hit on a shingle though. My mom would never have said it to us. LOL

Casserole usually looks a little of a chaotic jumble. Glad it tasted good.

Oh yeah I have made some things that tasted so good but looked like just awful and my husband always refused to eat it because he says it looked like someone puked in a plate..but it was very good..even though it didn't look so appetizing.

I have made a few casseroles in my time that tasted amazing, but were not pretty to look at. The way I "look" at it is as long as it tastes good who cares what it looks like. I would rather have something that looks awful but tastes great than something that looks great but tastes bad or bland.

You just described MOST of my cooking. I've never been one to worry too much about the look of food if it tastes good. Fortunately my children weren't picky eaters! They're all grown now and it's just me and I still don't care what it looks like.
