Obama meddling in foreign affairs endangers US troops

In a news item that broke today, it has been revealed that Obama DEMANDED of Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, that they delay a drawdown of US troops in Iraq until after the election takes place. What motive could Obama possibly have in wanting to keep troops in place until after the election since he has been campaigning so vehemently about bringing the troops home and finding a speedy resolution to the war in Iraq? In my opinion, he is meddling and putting more US troops in danger each day they are over there when they could have been brought home. What's your opinion on this? http://www.nypost.com/seven/09152008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/obama_tried_to_stall_gis_iraq_withdrawal_129150.htm

From what I've read, what 0bama did is illegal. No one but the President and those authorized by him can speak on behalf of the USA. I suppose President Bush does not dare prosecute 0bama because some would think it 'unfair', but that is what 0bama has earned for himself.

I suspected as much. The Constitution says a person can be fined and also imprisoned for three years for interfering in foreign governments. It is unthinkable anyone would want him to be president after reading this.

I totally agree! I think this should definitely be investigated and prosecuted if that is what happened.

Top U.S. defense officials have recommended that President George W. Bushwithdraw one combat brigade from Iraq but not until early next year, Pentagon A U.S. Army combat brigade has between 3,000 and 5,000 troops. The United States now has 15 combat brigades in Iraq as well as a variety of other units, making a total of more than 140,000 troops.

Whatever plans are in the works for withdrawing troops is irrelevant in this case. Obama overstepped his authority and tried to influence a foreign government in a time of war. It is illegal whether the USA is at war or not. Obama is a traitor and should be prosecuted. Period.

Right, but Bush is the the guy in charge, not a presidential candidate and U.S. senator. The issue at hand is that Obama, if he did in fact do this, did not have the authority to do so and dealt with a foriegn government, concerning a matter of war, acted under military authority he did not have and circumvente4d the commander in chief in doing so. It is a very serious charge.

Well, there is no way around it. If he did in fact did this, this is even more seriosu than Pelosi's little stunt, as Obama tried to directly influence a foriegn government to specific policies and deliberatley tried to circumvent the authority of the commander in chief in an issue of war durring a war. These are serious charges. VERY serious charges. This could be a big potential game changer and I would imagine this, if it were going to be, would be looked in to before the election.

I don't think this will be the last of it. If someone doesn't step up and prosecute this crime, I think it could be the focus of an "October surprise" that has been rumored is in the works.

lol, we can hope. but you know how it goes, authorities will procecute, based on actual and apliable law and people will scream and cry foul. racism, election bias, partisan attack and such, no matter how solid the law is.

Going to be hard to sort this out as Obama is flatly denying any of this. The comming weeks should be pretty telling though. Yes, if this is the case, what he did was in fact ilegal. Nancy pelosi however is also guilty of logan act violations durring her middle east trip and no consiquences came of it. A law is useless if it isn't enforced or is ignored for the sake of political smoothness.

considering Nancy Pelosi is right now 3rd in line for president, she too should be investigated, but I'm pretty sure it won't happen

I would hope to think that it would be investigated - especially since this person is running for President. He obviously already thinks of himself as such and is definitely overstepping his bounds!

Clrumfelt, Will the real BHO please stand up? This is exactly what I have been trying to point out to all of the Obamites here on MyLot for the last 6+ months! This man will stop at absolutely NOTHING to get elected! If it happens to keep our soldiers in harms way a little longer, unnecessarily, it doesn't matter! The end justifies the means! CHANGE??? Bull$hit!!!

One other question; why are the Obamites not weighing in on this one? Could it be some of the blinders have fallen off? (Oh, darn, that's two questions)

The important thing is that all Americans vote in the election so that we all get express our opinion Americans who do not vote are forgetting the high price we have paid for our democracy and the soundness of our Constitution. I bet if we had a lottery for 1 million dollars and all you had to do was vote, we would have a larger turn out

That is a good point but I think time has run out for those who want to vote for a candidate only for what they can get out of it. All those promises if free money are going to be forgotten soon enough. I don't think Obama is going to win, but he also could never deliver the things he has promised the American people. It is just not doable.

lol, you may be on to something there with the lottery thing, seriously. But it's sad when we have to use that as incetive to vote isn't it.

That is very obvious. He wants to win the election, and he wants to take credit for the withdrawal. If McCain won, then he could not take the credit and if they were withdrawn while Bush was still president, Obama could not take the credit. So he wants to be seen as the savior of America, the one who everyone admires and that is the only reason. He does not care about the troops only about his own self image.

I agree. He is only trying to promote himself. I don't think he cares one bit about America and its welfare.

He could simply be trying to keep them there until he is elected (if he is) so that it will look like he is truly responsible for bringing them home. Though this should be illegal if it is not already! Considering that he is campaigning to bring them home, it would seem that he would want them to come home as soon as possible, rather than trying to keep them there until after the election. It just doesn't make good sense!

I am thinking the same thing. He is trying to make the right-wing politicians look bad and portray himself as a problem solver in international affairs. I could never trust Obama to take care of our foreign affairs. Not before, and espically now after he has broken the law by meddling in international affairs and tried to put our troops in harms way by prolonging their stay in the war zone.

I am not surprised and at the time that he went, I actually commented that I was afraid that he would cause problems by going. I do believe that what he did was illegal and feel that he should be prosecuted for it - and obviously not allowed to continue as the Democratic Presidential candidate. I also find it interesting that although there has been much criticism of Bush by Obama for not setting a deadline to withdraw troops that he would then demand that Iraq not allow the United States to withdraw troops until after the election. It sounds to me like he thinks he will be elected and wanted the withdrawal of troops delayed until after the elections so it would appear to be his accomplishment!

Clrumfelt, Just thought everyone would like to see John McCain's response to Barack's meddling in presidential affairs. Here is the response: http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=YmRmMDAwNDc1ZTMxMDAzNGJlYjA5NWY1MzRlMGJmM2M=

Thanks for posting this, rodney. I am relieved that his meddling is known to the government and not a secret only posted in blogs on the internet. There must be some kind of repercussions from this. It is illegal, and if it doesn't lose Obama the nomination at this point, it should at least be publicized so the American people can see what a dishonest scoundrel he really is. The best thing would be for them to prosecute him as a deterrent for other would-be meddlers in international. There have been several others in the past who have done it and bad mouthed the USA to other governments. Nancy Pelose, Jimmy Carter, I'm sure there are a host of others who have done this. They should be called to prosecuted as traitors.

Good point. I guess he thinks desperate times call for desperate measures. He has made no secret that he considers himself a citizen of the world, not just a citizen of the USA and he is trying oh so hard to appear presidential to the whole world, as if that will help his chances of being elected here. Surely no one will be fooled by such arrogance. He is a lawbreaker and doesn't care who he steps on in his climb to the top, even if it is soldiers who are risking their lives every day defending the USA.

WOW! Have any of you noticed? 10 posts and counting.....all WITHOUT anyone defending Obama! This will certainly go down in MyLot history, don't you think? This man makes me more and more sick....as things keep coming out about him and his LACK OF character. He is a snake in the grass, I'm telling you. People usually do not make choices without a big payoff. Can someone PLEASE tell me what the payoff is in voting for this jerk? I mean, what will anyone benefit with him "leading" this country? We all know that everything that comes out of his mouth is lies anyway.

I agree with your thoughts on Obama. His actions in this instance and a lot of others are completely indefensible. He continues to lie and decieve the American people. It's no wonder this discussion isn't getting any responses from MyLot's staunchest Obamites.
