With the trend changing everyday the use of computers have become more prevelant. Almost everyone has a computer at home and use them extensively for various applications. So if come across any problem with the software or hardware parts of the computer do you try to solve them yourself or do you look for the service person. I am too no expert of computers but i try to solve if it is something related to software and installations. But if it is hardware related then i look for support from my friends. If they are not able to identify the problem then i look for the service person. How about you?

I do most of my computer troubleshooting myself. Actually since I have had my computer I have never once took it bakc in for any installations or problems, I have done all on my own and 4 years later my computer is still working just as good as the day when I bought it. When I detect any problems, I would research online for people who have had the same problems and how they troubleshoot it. orks all the time since the internet is so vast, 9 times out of 10 many people had the same problem and found solutions and wanted to share.

There are a few things I can and will do on my own, but generally I don't open up a computer. I can often figure out some things which might be going wrong with a computer, but traditionally I just make sure I treat the computer well and don't go overloading it with a bunch of programs or worse Trojans. This is done by avoiding questionable sites.

If its software, I figure it out, as I'm pretty savvy at researching to find out the answers needed in order to complete. If its hardware, I ask my techie friends. I have a large group of friends from cooks to lawyers and doctors. So if I ever need to ask a question, I can freely ask one of them without them looking at funny. I don't usually ask a question, unless I need to know right away, have tried to research it myself and couldn't find the answer.

When i purchased my computer i initially got a one year maintainance contract done as i thought it would be a tough task maintaining the device. But over the years i learnt more of it and now its more than two years since i needed to call up an expert on maintainace. I have been doing all my computer related problems myself downloading them from the net when softwares were needed and am having a trouble free performance.

If the problem is only a minor one... and is within my understanding of a computer hardware or software... i try to fix it myself... i even research in the internet some solutions... but if it is beyond my computer knowledge... then that is the time i seek the help of an expert who i know can help me with the problem...

I have become fairly adept at troubleshooting problems with my pc, sivanj, because I like to learn new things and there is so much technical help online if you need it. On the rare occasion when I cannot get to the root of my problem I have a couple of excellent sites that I can go to to get advice and assistance. They have become invaluable to me over the last few years.

Not being offay with computers I normally ask the service manager to sort it out but am with a service called the geek squad and they take over the computer screen and sort the problem out for me...its more handy than taking it into a shop as all you do is make a free phone call and the technician takes over from there so you could be having a cup of tea while it is being sorted-cool eh?

I have learned enough to solve a bunch of problems but when I can't, I use a site called "Geeks to Go" who have helped me many times. I also have a service person, who went to school with my daughter, and is less expensive than those geeks on call type services, that are excellent, but he is, too. I also have friends who are pretty good, too, but hate to bother them, if I don't have to.

you know, that may be true that almost everyone has a computer but to be honest. I have not seen the stats on that. I know also that there is an assumption that everyone has a cellular phone. And that I do know. It is not true. I know at least 25 people who do not have a cellular phone. The only problem with trying to get service for your computer can be expensive. I am lucky. My granddaughter married, a computer programmer, genius, and he has come to the rescue. About three or four times, if you do not use your computer for every site under the sun. Then there is less likely problems will occur you have to have a good antivirus program and sometimes to shutting out the computer and coming back to late and an hour or two, and you'll find there is no more a problem. I hardly know how to plug it in, let alone fix it, but that's my story good luck, have a great day

Well if it's typically a minor problem like defragmentation, too much of my files cluttering up my computer's hard drive, viruses, spyware, malware or anything that I can solve, I can solve it as though it's nothing. I've been into computers ever since 1997, and i've seen my share of the bad stuff offline and online my computers, and this experience really helped me out in the long run. However, if it's something too big for me to handle, like when I can't boot up the operating system or the computer, if a hacker steals my identiy, my emails, my passwords, etc., a hardware problem, or any type of major damage that even I can't solve, that's when I wave my white flag and let customer service handle it, or in this case, the Geek Squad. They've helped me out two times, and their help was worth the price I paid.

Ahhhhhhhh! You have come up with my favourite subject! I just love computers and I carry out my own maintenance. I recently completed a course in Computer Maintenance and Installation and I'm taking my exams in October. I just love computer problems, as crazy as this sounds! I will be looking for customers too once I pass my exams. I must be careful here, I'm not promoting myself or anything in order to gain potential customers! I have upgraded my own computer several times and whenever my friends get a problem with their pcs, they call me over and thankfully, I have managed to sort out their issues. I understand what you are saying though as regards hiring a technician. I'm going to defend the technician though and say that the money they normally request, it's justified. Computer Maintenance and Installation is an essential skill and it takes a lot of hard work in order to become qualified, so the salaries are well deserved. I know that there are probably lots of people who practice computer maintenance in their bedrooms and don't like the idea of working towards a qualification, there's nothing wrong with that. By studying for the qualification though, as I have, it shows that you're willing to put the work in and gain the qualification. So, if you cannot sort out the problem yourself, hire a computer support technician, check his qualifications first though. Andrew

I usually try to solve the problem on my own, whether it be a hardware or software problem. Most of the time, the problems I have are easily fixed. Sometimes though, I have to go online and check for some solutions. Most of time, there are people online who have had the same problems with their computers that I've had and they post their solutions online. When I've exhausted internet sources and asked all my friends, I bring my computer to a technician.
