Silence or With Music?

Can you focus on working or studying with music? Or do you prefer working and studying when it's quiet? I'm the type of person who can't focus well when working or studying if there's music on, especially if it's the kind of music that I know and I want to sing along with the songs he he he...I work or study MUCH faster when when all is silent. I also can't sleep with my radio on. I've tried it in the past, but it just made me listen to the songs instead of falling asleep easily. I'm a sleepyhead, so it's generally easy for me to fall asleep. How about you, friends? Am I weird or are you also like me? HE HE HE HE HE HE...

Well, it really depends on the situation. Most of the time, I do prefer it quiet as well, but every once in a while, it is too quiet so I have to have some soft music of some sort playing to help break up the silence as well. And when it comes to sleeping since I am a light sleeper, I prefer it quiet as well.

I can't focus on much when the radio is on because I tend to sing along or my mind wanders and takes me back to my younger years when I was single. Then I begin to think about other people and whatever happened to them. I can work on the computer when the television is on. I can ignore it until the news comes on. Then my attention is focused on the tv alone. I also sleep with the tv on all night.

Hi, carolbee! Ahaaahhhh...interesting. So your mind takes you back to your younger years, eh? Some music also makes me do that: thinking about the past, simply 'coz I used to listen to the songs while roaming the streets in Bandung with my closest friends he he... THANKS for sharing! ;-D

It really depends. Depending on the mood. When I feel like I have to leave my mind blank, I just need to listen a loud music to send me to sleep, and when I feel like contemplating myself to sleep silence is a companion.

I have to have silence while I am working. I can listen to music on some of my work though that does not require a whole lot of thought. Most of my owrk requires thinking so I leave the radio and television off. I seem to be more productive with silence.

When I am studying I prefer silence or the sort of music that great for thinking like something gentle. I wouldn't listen to dance music because that would make me want to move not sit still. This evening I have been listening to Duran Duran whilst revising some Spanish that I learned in my class last week. I did fall asleep in noisy youth hostels when I was younger. These days I tend to be a lighter sleeper.

Hi, Maximax! THANKS for sharing. Yes, it does make sense not to listen to dance music while studying he he...but even if it's instrumental, for me it's harder to concentrate he he he...
