My granddaughter Persephone (pronounced Perseffony)will be 5 months old at Christmas. I am making her some booties and a dress or two. I do not feel it is necessary to give many gifts to a baby. Clothing is most appropriate.

I agree with you, that's thoughtful of you to make her booties. It's not practical to buy a lot of clothing for infant for they outgrow their clothes the next time you know they are 2 feet tall and couldn't wear their infant clothes. that's so sweet here's a postive response,,

Whenever I buy for the babies I buy them in 3 sizes. That way I know that they will have clothes that will fit over a period of time.

I agree with you that at her age, sticking with practical gifts is the wise decision. Anything that will be helpful to her parents would be more useful than a toy she will quickly outgrow and won't remember. Another good idea would be a savings account, savings bond, or stock certificate for your granddaughter. That way she can enjoy the gift in future years.

They have a son who is 13 months older than Persephone,so there isn't a need to buy any toys for her at this point. She can play with all of Markie's toys.

I agree with that. My son was 6 months old last Christmas, he was spoilt by his grandparents anyway! But he mostly had clothes and I bought him a couple of toys which were supposed to help him crawl. So I suppose if you wanted to get her something other than clothes, then an educational toy, which will still be fun to play with even after she's learned whatever it's supposed to teach, might be good.

When I last visited my grandkids and they were "bored" I told them to get out one of the Christmas gifts that we had given them last year. They had no idea where it was. By the looks of their rooms it was clear that the gift made its way to the Island of Misfit Toys. I vowed to get them clothing in place of toys. They love clothes. And the babies, well they will not know the difference.

How about a special tree orniment. My grandkids love putting their own special ornaments on the tree. I try to give them one every year. one that depicts something special for that year.

I have made each of my children and grandkids a special ornament with their name on it. I will need to make one for Persephone.
