I have just read an email regarding the Use of Sanitary Napkins for more than 3 hours can cause cervical cancer and bacteria infection. I don't know if this is true but there is no harm if I follow as instructed in the use of sanitary napkins. Just a question why all this time if sanitary napkins can really cause cervical cancer then I assume if this is true a lot of women today suffer from the disease. I am on my twenties right now so for the woman aged forties right now, a lot might have suffered from cervical cancer.?? What do you think? Is this factual??

I have not read about this news... Did they have a medical study about this matter? I would be interested if they have already conducted a study yet to prove this allegation. Hopefully this new is false as there are plenty of women who uses this which is supposed to be sanitary but in the end cancerous.

Oh okay I guess she should elevate her findings to let this thing studied further by her colleagues so that neccessary changes could be made in it to make it more safer to use then.

A woman getting her PH.D at University of Colorado sent the a message: "I am writing this because a women are not being informed about the dangers of something most of us use the Sanitary Napkins and Tampons. For Tampons contain two things that are potentially harmful: Rayon for absorbency and dioxin a chemical used in bleaching the products..Thus Rayon and Dioxin can also breaks down immune system.

I don't know if it is true or not. I haven't heard this. But I can say that extended use of sanitary pads, even pantiliners, can cause irritation. Your body needs to be able to breathe, plus I find the rubbing of the pad can cause physical irritation externally, like pimple-like lumps. I do not use maxi pads on a regular basis but do use pantiliners and I have found that irritation happens. I will be 46 this month and am actually looking forward to the end of this part of my life and moving into the next phase. I don't know what it's going to be like because my mother was miserable, as was my eldest sister. I hope the change goes easier for me.

Hi there patgalca, I am also aware that extended use of sanitary napkins can cause irritation. If for one have experience that.. As what I have read in the email it cannot only cause irritation.. extended use of sanitary napkins, after the duration our genital area can be prone to bacterial infection and would lead to cervical cancer.. I do hope this is not factual..because I use sanitary napkins and liners in a long time..

I agree almost anything can cause cancer so if it's not one thing that's going to kill you it'll be something else.

I haven't heard of the news at all. But I read somewhere that yes, sanitary napkins can cause infections and if not treated right away may lead to more serious problems. Anyways, we just have to keep in mind to be sanitary when using them. We need to change napkins at least every three hours. ;D

I probably would have it if using napkins cause cancer,I menstruate early and since I also use napkins. But I think we must have proper hygiene always not to trigger the bacteria if that information about napkin is true.

Well I am 41 and I have been using pads since I first started getting my period at 12. I don't have cervical cancer. I would think that tampons would cause that, not pads being that they are outside of the body and no where near the cervix.

I did a small search and they say the data isnt there to make sure. I have to wonder about this thou as if it is true I would think all women would end up with cancer at some point. Be it from pads or tampons.

i think it's true.. well, i am still on my twenties too.. but i believe it's true if we let the sanitary napkin stay for a long time that means the dirt and the bacteria in the sanitary napkin when we have the period will also stay longer in our private place and since it's open has the possibility to spread and infect our cervics.. so i guess that's true.. guess what we should do is keep our self clean especially when we have periods and change the sanitary napkin regulary..

Yes, I recently saw this subject in a reality show where many researchers said that sanitary napkins should be changed every 3 hours or earlier. I know I haven't been changing it that frequently, but have started to do it... just to be on the safer side. I have to see to it that I don't buy too absorbent napkins because I need to change every 3 hours. Maybe this could be the reason, like you said for the increasing percentage of women getting cervical cancer these days.

Well I hope that it's not true. I always though that tampons were the danger; not sanitary napkins. College studies are often a theory of what may be true. If it is sted as fact I would have to see the study released to the public. Otherwise lawsuits are foundless.

I've never heard of such a thing. Im 52 and used pads all my life as well as tampons. I did hear that tampons if left in too long could cause problems and that made sense. Napkins???Well lets see...wore them to bed and as a rule slept much longr than 3 hours...no problems. never heard of any such problems.I'd read further into this if I were you.

one in every two women has HPV and many have never been diagnosed. HPV is a known link to cervical cancer and is silent and often symptomless. i would say that has more to do with cervical cancer on the rise than maxi pads

Apparently even wearing panty liners does as well! That is because they have silica gel, the gel that you find in new products or even like biscuits. The purpose of it is to "eat" the oxygen so that the products won't grow moulds or the biscuits will still stay crispy.

dorothy09, This is just another smear and spam mail, just don't fall for it. I have yet to see this being reported in the media and/or independent health research websites. I am sure you would be aware of the most probable and likely causes for cervical cancer. Just don't fall for this email. Besides, there is another use for these sanitary napkins (the ultra slim ones), you can use them for your shoes, insoles during the summer season. Very handy and comfortable with their super absorbent capabilities. Take care and have a great day ahead.

I hope so that that was just a spam mail.. I for one cannot imagine if that was real then most women at the age of 50 now have a cervical cancer. But is said in the email , long hours on using napkins, your genital area will be prone to bacterial infection and if too much bacterial infection might cause cervical cancer..good Hygiene still is very important

Hi. dorothy09. I have never heard of this before. But, if there is not a lot of blood that fulls up the sanitary napkin, then I would not think that it has to be changed every three hours, but it still would be smart to change it. I will have to ask an doctor like an OBGYN practitioner about this kind of information. They most likely would know what is the truth here. I get my pap smear every two years done. I get an pelvic exam every year. So, I am 32 years old now and so far, my cervix has looked normal. I had an pelvic exam done this week and my cervix looked normal. An pelvic exam is done to detect cancerous cells. I have been fine having both tests done. They always were normal.

Hi dorothy09, Yet another load of old rubbish, to scare women, they said the same things with micro waves and cause a lot of people get rid of them, now every home has one. There is no prove, yes everything can cause cancer, niext they will say kissing cause cancer, I sick of all that, the only way women can get cancer is if they have to many partners and cot keeping thmselves clean. That would be too scary if that is true. I think all women uses sanitary napkin. If that would be proven true, they must warn all women in the world. They must conduct thorough investigations on that matter..

i really don't know. BUt if you used it more than 3 hours it irritates me and make my skin itchy. maybe if you do not remove it for more than 3 hours specially the pantyliners you got rashes because i experience it. well, maybe it doesn't harm you if you just follow instructions.
