How can you tell WITHOUT a Thermometer if You are Running a Fever?

i have heard that if you feel your own head and it feels normal that thats a sign your running a fever (makes no sense but thats what i was told) some people feel foreheads or cheeks to see if they are warm.. some peoples faces flush.. but if you are alone and have no thermometer with you and think you are and need to take something for it what would you do?? i have run into this a lot because my body seems to be doing some funky thing where my face to me feels like its on fire... anything it touches feels ice cold to me but other people say im not even warm to where my temperature could be high its making me confused!!

You can't really feel yourself and tell but if you are shivering when it's not cold that's a good indication.

Hot flashes... are you old enough for the BIG CHANGE?? Maybe blood pressure, stress, blood sugar?? My husband has had high blood pressure and he would be on fire but not feel hot at all to me. Do you have any other symptoms?

I just feel hot usually my back gets really hot and I have cold sweats. That's how I know I have a fever. I usually get a second opinion by asking someone else to feel if I'm hot. If they say yes and there's no thermometer then I just take some Tylenol or something.

Fever is very rare for me, and I mean it because in my 34 years of life, I only remember 3 times that I went down with fever(there could have been more when I was a kid but I don't 'remember' them ). Anyways, I come down with cold atleast 5-6 times a year, so if you are already envying me there, please stop!! I'd rather have a fever than a cold. Atleast I can have some rest, if I have a fever, but a cold is no excuse for anything !! And this cold loves me so much, it wouldn't leave me for a month!! Coming to your question, I don't know if this is the same for everybody, but when I have a fever I know it even if there is no thermometer because I can feel my hot breath, my eyes burning and a general feeling of dizziness. Sometimes feeling our own forehead and neck doesn't work because the whole body has the same temperature and you can't tell which part if warm. Maybe if you wet your hands with cold water and then touch your forehead you might be able to tell. I would definitely say that if your face feels like its on fire it is highly likely that you have a fever whether other people can feel it or not. I know because I did have a fever when other people could not feel anything. You know when your body is normal and when it is not, so don't take any chances.

yeah true with a fever you can use it as an excuse to get out of things since its a sign your contagious so it would be annoying to be sick a lot with out one especially if there are a lot of people around you that dont believe you are sick unless you have one

You can tell you’re in fever when you feel that your eyes are hot. Sometimes your body feels ht and breath feels hot. Your face has a burning sensation then you have a fever. If you shiver or feel cold, it may be an indication of having a high fever and you should take medication.

If this is something that concerns you frequently or even at the moment it would be well worth it for you to go and purchase a little automatic thermometer, they cost only betweetn 5 and 7 dollars, and are very simple to use. You will know in 60 seconds weather you have a fever or not.

Hi moon, when we were growing up, we have no thermometer and Mom will jsut touch our forehead and neck and will check our tongue...and at the same time, she can tell by our actions and mood! In myself, I can also tell when I am not feeling good, painful head, no appetite and I will also chill!

Generally we do not feel well from inside and when its for a longer period, it hinders our ability to do any work, then its an alarm indicating I am having fever.Sometimes eyes also burn and taste of the mouth gets bad are few of the symptoms of fever.

When I was a child whenever I felt sick an adult would place their hands on my forehead to see if I had a temperature. They were usually right so I guess it works. We also kept a thermometer at home and used it ourselves. You can buy them in the pharmacy.

Hi Moonlit, I don't know how you would check but I would say just invest the couple of dollars in one to keep in the medicine cabinet. Fever is usually the first way that you know your body is having issues and something may be wrong. If you think about almost every illness has "fever" as one of the possible symptoms. Its well worth it in the end and that way you can react to get yourself better.

You can tell that you have a fever by just feeling it yourself. You will know something is wrong with your body when you started to chill and feel weak. There are fever that you cant tell by just touching the persons forehead. The right way of knowing it is find out the signs and symptoms. There are fevers where a person feel cold and shivering while some fever you can tell by touching the forehead. When the person look hot and flushed then youll know that he/she has a fever.

I can always tell if I have a fever without using a thermometer because I feel tired and cold all over my body and I don't want to eat, so if I can feel I have fever I immediately take a medicine and take some time to rest.

taking up temperature reading without a thermometer may sometimes be biased especially if you are the ones taking your own. :) but if you don't have a thermometer, i think the best way to know if you have fever is to use your palm in measuring your temperature. the palm has thicker skin compared to the back of your hands. in addition to that, another subjective symptom is that if you feel so cold. another way to is to use your pinkie finger and put it in your ears for quite a while. the tympanic area is rich in blood supply and is sensitive to the changes of your core body heat. but you have to be familiar with your own temperature first before trying this out so you can feel the disrepancies. :) try to do it when you feel that you might be running a fever. that should work. :)

Hmm... usually the clear indicator is when you feel a burning sensation in your eyes when you close it. Coupled together with the following symptoms, you are having a fever. 1) You feel hot and you are not sweating at all. No matter how much water you drink, you just will not sweat. Even when you hide under layers of blankets. 2) Your piss feels warmer than usual. And the smell is also stronger than usual. This is because your piss is warmer and is thus 'steaming' a more. That is why you smell it more. If those are the symptoms you feel, then pop an aspirin. If you still do not sweat after the aspirin wears off, go see a doctor!

ok i havent heard of those so i will look out for those.. i tend to sweat so now i will know thats not a sure fire indicator.. i will see about the pee thing next time lol it all makes sense though!! thanks!

Hi there! I think the best sign if you are running a fever without using a thermometer is that the eyes feels hotter and so does your breath. The eyes would seem like watery too. I know I am sick if I feel that. I also feel pain on my joints if I will be getting sick. The body sometimes aches and my taste buds seems to be not working well. I believe a person can feel it if he/she is running a fever. Ciao!

Hey there! I can tell if I'm running a fever if I feel my body is hot by touching/placing my hand at my forehead or neck, and if my tongue taste bitter. i have a question, are you a woman? If so, I think the reason you feel that way is because maybe you are fertile that day. That's what I think. I hope that helps.

I don't use thermometer to see if I'm sick. Maybe, since it is mostly warm here in my area, I can easily tell if something is not normal in my body temperature. When I am getting a fever, I feel cold inside my body, but when I feel my face, neck, forehead, and pits, they are hot, but I am not perspiring. When somebody with normal temp touch me, I feel it as cold.. These is the time I take medicine. If the fever is getting high, I begin to tremble, feel weak, and lose appetite.

well other than the tremble, weak and loss of apatite i have those and am not running one.. maybe my hubby is cold and so when i am comparing to him he always feels colder maybe??
