Do you make your own hashbrowns?

My hubby is making hashbrowns this morning. He is leaving the skin on the potato. They have been well washed. He leaves the skin on because that is where the vitamins are. So they come out truly a brown color. Not the golden color most people are used to. But they are tasty. Have you ever done that? Or do you peel yours? Or just get the store bought stuff?

I have found hashbrowns tricky to do at home. I think one secret is using high enough heat to brown them without cooking them forever. I hope you liked your husband's hash browns and I agree about potato skin and vitamins as well as fiber.

I have made them, I love hash browns. I usually always peel them and boil them for 2 minutes first them shred them using a grater and then shape them into hash brown shapes or squares and fry in a iron skillet that has oil added and hot so that they fry up nice and golden brown.

You got me curious about hash browns. I learned that hashed browns are a simple potato preparation in which potato pieces are pan-fried after being shredded, julienned, diced, or rice. I do something similar a potato jacket. I just wash the potato skin thoroughly and slice it add butter on it and put it in an oven or microwave. It is tasty. © ronaldinu 2008

I have never made my own hashbrowns before I have never had hashbrowns with the peel still left on the potato either sound like they could be good though. I like the skins and you want to make sure to get the vitamins out of the potato.

yep i make my own with a few nice fat potatoes, and a cheese grater. and of course i like my hashbrowns cheesy. I don't use all of the skin though. A little skin is nice, too much though isn't so nice.

I have made my own hashbrowns before, but not with the skin still on. I leave the skin on my potatoes for most of the other things that I make with potatoes though. I think fresh made hashbrowns taste so much better than the store bought of frozen ones. Enjoy your breakfast. What else is he making?

I have never made hash brown from scratch before. Your husband has some wonderful cooking ideas going on there. I normally eat the store bought kind. And just the ones from McDonald's. That is about it. I love hash browns. I hardly eat them as often though. I never thought about peeling the skin off of it.. I am sure that it gives you extra vitamins. Just like with oranges..
