McCain: Nuclear safety = "blah blah blah"

It's "health" of the mother time all over again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB-jdJpvhxk Is this the guy we'd want in charge of our energy policy? Obama is okay with nuclear power, but he wants to make sure we utilize it RESPONSIBLY and SAFELY, while McCain clearly doesn't care about any of that; just throw down a bunch of plants and we'll worry about all of the nuclear waste later. Is he channeling Bush here or something?

One of the responders got it right on. He and the other Republicans don't believe in science. Health and safety are blah blah blah. I think that's a terrible thing to admit you believe. It is sad that someone with so many views that completely lack good judgment can be a candidate for an office that needs good judgment more than anything. McCain is showing his true colors more and more each day. He lives in fantasy land and is truly a terrifying choice for president.

Good Morning to you. I heard this speech and McCain words greatly disturb me. Whether it was his derisive and prickish manner in which he delivered it or the way he was dimissive when he says it has to be safe environmental, blah, blah, blah. It showed me that he is not someone who has a real strong grip on reality and should in no ways be in charge of this country. I'm all for using nuclear energy if it benefits the people in terms of reducing their home energy costs and it is safe as well as properly regulated so that we don't have several incident like Chernobyl here in America. But he nor his running mate can assure me of that. He is channeling what most Republicans channel and that is an infinite lack of critical thinking and common sense. After all they don't believe in science, they just believe in using science to blow things up and make a profit off of it.

Can you tell me how we are going to get all the electricity to run our homes, factories, and cars using wind power and solar panels? Some of the most optimistic projections say that we can produce 15 -20% of our energy needs form wind and solar combined but it will take 10 or more years to develop the technology. What about all the power line that will be needed to move the electricity form the Wind mills to the Cities where it is needed? The US Navy has been using nuclear power for their ships for over 25 years. How many have blown up? How many sailors have related health problems? I think that it is safe alternative source of energy. How long will it be before the environmentalist want wind mills baned because the birds are flying into them and getting killed?

I never would have believed we'd ever see another politician as dumb as Bush until I've seen McCain in recent months and his sidekick Sarah. McCain has said over and over again he wants to build 30-40 new nuclear plants but, as you said, he has no concern over first finding a place to put all the waste we've already had at the sites of the plants for decades. I can see the cooling towers of one of those plants from my house so it sure DOES concern me. Talk about being out of touch! Annie

What an idiot. I've said before here that I live by Ferme (plant in Michigan) and its had several problems over the years. And, I also live by Davis Besse and this plant just recently had a hole in the reactor head for god knows how long, and just last week it was reported that it was leaking radio active substance. In my opinion muclear safety is NOT "blah blah blah"!
