How much do you feed a beta?

We have a single beta fish. We feed it daily. The beta food comes in tiny pellets. We give the fish between 4-6 pellets. He gobbles it down like there is no tomorrow. Do you think this is the right amount? More needed or less for a healthy beta?

First of all it is best to find that info out from the pet store or where you purchased the fish from. But I looked it up online since I haven't had betas before, but my sister in law has and she says that she feeds her 3-5 pellets. Here is some info that might be of some help. http://www.ehow.com/how_2278755_take-care-beta-fish.html

If the fish doesn't die, I guess you have the amount right. I have no idea, really.

lilybug is spot on! No more than once a day for adult fish and the number of pellets you are giving sound like a good amount. Fish will keep on eating and eating and many people make the mistake of thinking that they do it because they are hungry! Overfeeding will foul the tank and can also kill the fish very quickly.

I have goldfish but my sister has a beta fish. I think you are feeding it the right amount. I would not feed it anymore than that though. They say if you over feed them, they will die.

Adult betta fish should be fed once a day and babies should be fed twice a day. It is extremely important not to overfeed the fish. Keep an eye on them as they eat and remove any food that is uneaten when they are done. Generally, a betta fish should take about two to five minutes to fill up, so avoid feeding them more than they can eat in that time. If your betta fish develops a paunch, or an overpronounced belly, you may be overfeeding it. Conversely, if he appears gaunt or thin, he may have an infection or need more food. http://www.aquariumguys.com/betta-fish-care-article.html
