Update on Taj

Just to let all of Taj's virtual friends know that he is recovering pretty well from his oral surgery. He is putting up a good fight when its time for his meds, but then he's pretty happy when I'm feeding him. So, mostly he's back to being a happy cat for the time being. Right now his mouth seems a bit swollen, but I'm sure that will go down soon and we can get a look at what a toothless cat will look like.

I am so glad that Taj is on the road to recovery. How old is he? He will feel so much better before too long.

Taj is 6 and a half. He's still a pretty young cat. He's really hungry today (yeah!) and I need to stop at a store to get him more baby food.

Oh yes, he is still very young considering my cat is 14 but at times she acts like a kitten again. Will Taj be able to eat can food once his mouth heals or will he have to continue to eat baby food?

I'm so glad he's doing so well. I've known toothless cats who chomp down on dry food as if nothing at all happened. They are such tough little things.

Well, we're going to give Taj a chance to recover from his surgery before we ask him to give up his baby food. The vet says "wet food for life" but he'll always have the option of dry food since we leave it out for the other cats.

That is great to hear. I hope the swelling goes down. My dog recovered very quickly. I hope Taj does too.

Thank you for the update! I've been wondering how things were going. To avoid the hassle with the meds, have you considered getting a pill grinder (if they're pills)? It would be simple just to mix them in with a favorite food. Might be less stressful on her mouth too, while it's healing, not to have a medicine battle every day. Hope she continues healing and doing well!

Actually, they are liquid in little suringes. It really doesn't take too long to squirt him, but it does to get him into the situation I can squirt him! I had been giving pills (actually the powder from capsules in food, but I need to be sure he takes all this stuff so... we'll just fight it out for the rest of the week.

I know exactly the kind of antibiotic you're talking about...amoxicillin...to me it smells like a cross between bubble gum and cherries...LOL. I've had to give my Pyewacket that from time to time...sheesh..you think I was wrestling with a sumo wrestler..he definitely doesn't like it. He also has a nasty habit of spitting it up too..

I had to give my cats antibiotics once, that was in a pink liquid form. It was sicky-sweet nasty stuff. One cat loved it, the other hated it. All you can do is tough it out, I guess. Hope the week goes by quickly for you!

He seems to be feeling much better. He got his last pain med this morning and I hope he continues to recover nicely as he has this last 5 days.

I got my first view down his toothless maw today trying to medicate him. It doesn't look nearly so raw and sore! Man, oh, man does he put up the good fight against the meds! We'll work on a pix after he's calmed down from the meds!

I wonder what a toothless cat is suppose to look like? have you thought about crushing his pills up and putting it his food?

Well, so far he looks about like the other cats, until he opens his mouth to meow. He's sitting here hoping I'll feed him again. The meds were in a syringe, they were liqued. I didn't know what they tasted like, so I didn't take the chance he'd reject them in food and squirted them in.

If he's putting up a fight, then he's feeling better and will probably improve amazingly well. Poor baby. When my mother went to the ER and things were really "iffy", the nurse said that even under sedation, she put up a fight when she tried to insert the catheter. That gave me hope because I knew if Mom had fight left in her, she might just get through it. Your baby has already been through the worst, so putting up a fight is a very good sign, indeed!

Thanks, Jerz! Yeah, he's feeling pretty good for undergoing the surgery. He's happy enough when he's with me - but now he's going to be afraid of towels! He already hates to go into the roomie's room where we used to medicate him! He's smart and has a LONG memory for a cat!
