Do you check the new, unfamilar, or strange words in a discussion?

I will check all the words that I don't know in discussions. The best online dictionary is "dictionary.com", so far as I am concerned. Well, some of them are not real words though, lol. What about you? Sure, some of you must know so many words that you don't even have to do that!

That is a great way of increasing your word knowledge and vocabularly my friend, I always do this in particular when I read books, I find a word that I don't understand and I will write it down if I am out of the house or look it up at home in the dictionary, I also use a thesaurus to find out other words which are linked to it. No one can say that they know EVERY single word in the language so we all learn, and Mylot is a great way of learning new things as well as new words.

I think you work hard. I look up every strange word but I feel tried to write all of them down. This is the reason that I know few words so far. Shame on so many levels. Besides, my memory is very poor. It is a good deed as well as a bad thing. For my bad memory, I won't remain upset anyway since I forget things that hurt. On the other hand, I also forget something serious! Have a great day!

If I can't figure out the meaning of a word by the context in which it is used, I will frequently check the dictionary. English is such a strange language that my dictionary will usually give more than one meaning for the same word. My dictionary is used more often for correct spelling than the meaning of words.

So are other languages. A couple of years ago, I tried to recited everyword in a dictonary. After all, I gave up. What a ridiculous idea. Actually, I saw one of my crazy classmates doing that and then followed her. lol Have a great day.

I have always checked words I didn't know in the dictionary. Dictionary.com is the best online dictionary I have found too. Sometimes even if I know the meaning of a word it is hard to explain to another person exactly what it means so I usualy use the dictionary to get a better explanation.

It is good to learn anyway. Even if you have already known something, you may enrich your mind by checking it. Have a great day.

I am familiar with most of the words types here at Mylot. If I am unsure, I ask the person who typed it.

It is a direct way to know by asking them. But sometimes people may make mistakes. This is the reason that some "words" are not actually words. Have a great day!

Hi hiddenwing! I think that is really good that you check the words that you don't know. We can never know too many words! Thanks for telling me about "dictionary.com". There are times that I need to look up a word. I might be reading an article and want to look up a meaning of a word. I do know lots of words, but that doesn't mean that I know every single word in the English language. There are far too many words for any of us to possibly know! And if someone said that they did they would be full of you know what!

I love dictionary.com!! Although, I have to say that I haven't come across any words from this sight that I've needed to look up. Then again, I've only been a member for a day, so...idk.
