There is already a discussion about Obama's dog, so why was it so important for you to waste the space to make another one?

First to murderistic and rulundad I have to say although I don’t like your response I still rated you a positive. Second there is MORE then one other discussion about Obama’s dog. I did voice my opinion on one of those discussions. Yes I did start a discussion about it this isn’t a rant its questions! I want the opinion of others. This is a discussion board right? This discussion is not the same as the one I responded to! So your comment about how when you don’t like a topic you don’t make a new post about it can go some where else! This is more then just about what is on MyLot this is about what is EVERY WHERE!!! It’s on the news it’s in the papers. I truly HOPE with all my heart and soul that Mr. Obama is more concerned about the country then the dog!!! Oh yes and Firefly99 – Thank you!

I do not think you answered the question? And why waste your time or the space to reply to a discussion you must have already responded to?

Comparing the crisis this country is in you would think the news would have something better to talk about. I could personally care les.

I don't think it's that it "matters" so much to anyone but some people just feel like taking a break from all the bad news in the country and the world and discussing something a little more light and less stressful. Just like the coverage of Barney biting the reporter; if Barney had been a great big guard dog type and had seriously injured the reporter it wouldn't been a "big deal" but as it was it was a bit of comic relief. It will be the first time in a long time there have been little kids in the White House so I think it's simply a cute story. I vote for a Shi'tzu, by the way; they're small, don't shed (so I think would be hypoallergenic) and have wonderful personalities. Annie

I'd just rather hear about other things. Like whats is going to change. How is he going to fix our economy not what kind of dog he is getting. I hope he has more consern for the country then the media does. I'm SURE there are better things to report!

The Obamas, during the campaign, wrote a letter to the ASPCA telling them of their intentions to adopt a shelter dog rather than purchase a purebred. Since that time, evidently their daughter has developed allergies and much have a "hypo-allergenic" dog (whatever that is).

I'm not a stupid person at least I don't think so but I still don't get it. Why would some one vote for him just because he said he wanted a shelter dog? I understand both Obama and McCain said things to get votes but a dog from a shelter I don't get it. Maybe some people are that "animal active"

Regarding this letter, unless they follow through with the indication that they will take a shelter dog instead of buying a purebred, I would take the letter as just being another promise made during the campaign to get votes. Undoubtedly, the child suffered from pet allergies long before the decision to get a dog occurred, and it seems that it is just being used as an excuse to get a high priced purebred dog rather than getting a rescue/shelter pet.

It isn't. But it's all part of the gossiping about celebrities thing in our society...

I didn't know the president elect was a celebritie. I guess I didn't look at the president as a celebritie I looked at him as a political figure - Maybe thats my problem I didn't realize he was the next "top model or american idol"

I have no idea why anyone would care about what kind of puppy they are getting? Just something else for the media to have fun with I guess? I could personally care less!

People like gossip and sensation. They will talk more about Obama dogs than economy. It is probably human nature to seek sensation. People's magazine is more popular than Forbes and Wall Street Jurnal.

This is something that has been discussed with all presidents from what I recall, the only difference is I dont recall so many people complaining about it until now! There is always the choice of ignoring it if someone doesnt care to watch it. With TV there is the Off button or change the channel. Online it is called the back button or there is a little X at the top right hand. I know that was kinda sarcastic but I really think people are going to extremes to complain about something. I honeslty dont care but it doesnt bother me as it has all been done before, people talk, discuss, and some complain. What I dont understand is complaining and then starting another discussion about the same subject.

In answer to that, the truth is that some things interest others that dont interest people like us. I personally dont care what kind of dog they get. With some it isnt that they even really care, it is that it is a break in other bad news. Something to ponder over instead of bills ect.,

Maybe there's not much new news coming in so somebody thought they should make it an issue and see how far they could take it.?

That could be. I know that they always talk about the "new pet" of the White House but it just seems like this time it has gone overboard. Just my OPINION.

I have way better things to think about then what dog he might get. And there are most surely better things to hear about. Like what kinds of toys are not safe from China this year for Christmas,is my family going to be all able to make it if it snows. So hes dog is of no importance to me. Just because say he gets a poodle does not mean me or anyone I know is goingto get up and run right out the door to get that type of dog.

The media is catering to the Obama cult. Whatever dog they get, you can bet people will want to own one of those, too. They have been elevated to mega-stars. And the regular news has turned into a paparazzi side show. It's always easier than talking about a non-existing solution Obama may have for our current crisis or how bad his staff selections really are. A dog is something safe to talk about. Don't want to talk bad about the soon to be President... yet.

I'm with you, who cares what kind of dog is in the white house! Let's just hope the President is more concerned with what the country wants and needs and not like the media making a huge event over a dog.
