We all hate our time being wasted when waiting in a line at clinics.

We may hear some unnecessary talks inside the office of the doctor by some patients who are over enthusiastic to be friendlier without any concern of the waiting sick babies and old people. How do you behave when your turn comes and you go in to meet the doctor .Do you make it fast and to the point without wasting much time concerned for the others waiting outside for a long time? Have you ever felt like paying back for your agony of waiting by being elaborate unnecessarily with the doctor?

Bala I feel, the fault lies with everyone. Right from the doctor to the patient to the staff. Promptness and professional approach from all is actually necessary. It would not only make things easier but faster as well. A proper system enables a proper disciplined rendevous with the doctor. I have seen patients who try to be extra friendly with their overwhelming effort to please the doctors and the stuffs. they would even bring marriage proposal for some eligible secretary. But don't you think if the signal is straight and they would not cross the line. And also, a lot of it, infact the most of it depends on the doctor who must not indulge in such talks and care about the patients waiting for long. I have seen many doctor yapping, yapping and yapping with some VIP patient only to prepare for an emergency outside! Now this is sickening! And another thing,I have to tell you, some doctors feel the the longer the patients wait for them greater they become. that goes to show how busy they are! So offputting! Personally, I always make sure to make it simple, short, to the point and easy for the clinic. Like I would arrange all the papers in a file date wise and talk precise. My experience in this field comes i handy but I am sure we all can do this. All it requires is bit of commonsense. But that's the most UNCOMMON thing these days!

The right response from the right person who is in the same field. You sure know what I meant.I have seen a doctor appreciating the ear drops of a wealthy lady inside while and infant is hollering with some pain outside.Where is the sense and sensitivity Mimpi?

And I have seen patient blacking out requiring immediate CPR to save his life and his consultant having a Tea party inside the office with VIPs! Where is the level of sensitivity! Indeed so! Medical profession is the most respected profession and even though I have problems with people treating them as GODS I have more problems with doctors creating an aura about themselves and behaving like a self proclaimed GOD! Doctors are humans but when they take up this profession they must try to live by the pledge they take while passing out. I am sorry I only find a few doing that!

It can be quite a dilemna Bala. Not from the point of payback, but from knowing that there are other people waiting who may require more of the doctors attention than i do and versus getting all my questions answered. And i have found my self concious of that so many times ,that i request the doctor for a few more minutes acknowledging the fact that there are other patients waiting .

Yeah-I believe this is very common in most clinics-but it irritates me lot when i have my kid but there's not much we can do. The doctor cant hurry coz sometimes he have to check a patient thoroughly and pay attention to the patient. I used to think like that-you know make them wait but because I just wanna o home after the long wait-I just want to get the check up over and Im just glad when Im finally finished

Its a crime to make patients wait outside while a person is visiting his doctor,by not being brief and to the point snd by prolonging the session with the doctor unnecessarily. In my case my family doctor is also a close family friend, and we often have topics to discuss which are unrelated to illness, and he always welcomes me warmly when he sees me. But I make it a point to be brief about my visit, and tell him that there are other patients waiting outside, and so take my leave. But If I happen to be fortunate enough to be last in line then I spent some time with him discussing topics of mutual interest. But mostly, after my brief visit to him,I just go upstairs where his wife is staying, and spent time with her, leaving the doctor free to attend to his patients............

I like everyone else, hate to wait in the doctors offices. One of our walk in clinics has come up with one of the best solutions I have seen. If you come sign in, then you can go do something else, sit in your car, or go back to work and they will call you. They give you 15 minutes to get back to hold your slot. It is SO much better than sitting in there with folks who are contagious and coughing,etc.. all around you when you might not be there for anything they can catch. Its true you cannot get too far from the dr then so you can make it back when you time is only 15 minutes, but I had much rather do that than sit in the waiting room!!!

I used to go to this clinic few years ago. The doctor is a very caring person and maybe too caring that he spends an awful lot of time with a single patient. I used to wait 2 hours for my turn and ended up driving back to my home because my fever has been cured. But I've also encountered doctors who are only willing to spend that 3-5 minutes with you before sending you out from his room.

It's a fact that most of us have to wait and waste time for seeing our doctor so I always go prepared, I like to use the time constructively instead of wasting it, that is why I always take a suduko puzzle book or reading book with me that way I am using my time whilst I wait for good uses, rather than sit there and getting more annoyed at being kept so long! I can do lots of puzzles in the time I wait, but at least the time is not wasted and when I do get called, I go in all calm, cool and collected, instead of tense, stressed and angry!

The system here stinks. No doctor gives an appointment.I am happy that they don't because they feel cruelly satisfied in violating the appointments. While the patients are waiting like a herd there comes a moron who must be either a politician or a rich thug who jump the queue goes in and tried to be very pally pally with the doctor in loud voice ,come out after a long time and eye the waiting poor like shiiiit. You must know a lot about the attitude problem of the people in my country to understand what I am saying. It is pathetic down here.

I feel it is not the patient that keeps others waiting. It is the staff themselves actually that cause delays etc. At my clinic if you're not there at your schedulded time then that slot is given to someone else waiting. They are very strict/firm about this as well. I never have a real wait at my clinic. The nurse takes me in then weighs me and takes the vitals and asks why I am there. Then she wrotes it on my chart on the puter. Then the Dr asks a few more pertinet questions. Then the appt. moves on quickly is all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

No, I don't do anything like that because usually it's my doctor who sets the pace. My Ob-gyne is the talkative type so I end up spending more or extra minutes in her office than is necessary. But my internist-endocrinologist is the straightforward-professional type so our transactions are fast. I have waited a couple of times in clinics because the patients are plenty, and we just have to wait or go somewhere else, and come back in time for your turn. But with the traffic and hassle in other cities, I guess that's not possible. But in our place where traffic is not a problem, we can always go somewhere else, like shop, then come back to the clinic as soon as we receive a text message from the doc's secretary that we are just one patient away. So as a whole, waiting for my turn at the doc's clinic is not really an agony, although I hate going for appointments because I lose much time waiting. But I believe that anything worth having is worth waiting for, so that's it...Patience.

I never engage in elaborate talks with people who are not even my buddy buddies. I always make it a point to be direct to the point so as not to waste time most especially if I know there are people queuing after me. In a doctor's clinic, I talk only about my health concerns and wait for doctors advice and prescription. All the things I need to consult about my health concern should be dealt with accordingly but I never engage in any unnecessary talks because that would waste be wasting time and lack of concern over the other waiting people.

Hi balasri, When I go to se my doctor, I always wants to gon in and get done and out again, I don't like hanging around chit chatting about nothing at all but if there is no one waiting for her, then she will sit and ask question my family and how we are, I could be talking there for about an hour, my doctor is so lovely, she really take good care of me when I need it, and that is why I don't really want to advantage of her and she knows that. In general if i go in to see my doctor knowing there are a lot of people outside waiting i try not to take too much of her time as much as i can. Sometimes a person does chit chat but there is a difference between "how was your day" and other simple thing in comparison to... how is your daughter how is her school? I saw your son the other day did he finish the 7th grade or not yet? those things... that i hear other patients ahead of me yammering on about... usually are the ones that were sitting outside with me bad mouthing the person ahead of them for taking too long. And THAT irritates me =P I sometimes take long if there is a particular reason i am there... tests i had run, questions about something i didn't particularly get when it was explained to me... but to delve into my personal life and hers is a waste of HER time and MINE. I don't know about other people but personally i'd rather kill the time OUTSIDE of a doctors office walking around rather in the office with that medical smell hanging heavy in the air.

I have waited the longest hours in a doctor place. I mean this is not just a doctor. This is the trusted one, that's why I'm willing to wait. I wait from 5pm to 3am!!! can you imagine 10 hours!! man that its very very... arrrgghh... Its ok if I'm in the best condition but at that time I got Thypus (did I spell correctly?), anyway its because bactery salmonela. And my temp is like going up and down all the time 37-40 celcius degree. When finally I met the doctor, I just feel releave its gonna be over soon. Somehow, I feel I can handle my bactery. Hahaha... the waiting makes me stronger I guess. I know I can always find another doctor, but I dont want to. This is the best doctor so far.

Gosh balasri! I've been having this problem ever since I started having my prenatal check-ups! Shucks! One of the things I hated most is waiting, I'm not much of a patient person I guess. But well, I don't remember getting served quickly, not once and instead of excitement, I'm getting irritated with my visits. Yeah, I admit, sometimes I am tempted to prolong my stay but I realize why go down to their level? I mean I get irritated by their actions why do it? Besides, I have other important things to do than waste my time chatting with the doctor over nonsense things. I do however make sure that all my questions (I always prepare a list) are answered before I go out of the clinic, hey! It isn't free! The consultation fee is really expensive! Sigh... I'll have another check-up again this afternoon... another long wait.

Waiting in Line - A snapshot of a man showing patience while waiting on a line.
Patience is the key I guess. Example, when I'm trying to consult an expert regarding my problem, then I should try to be polite and patient when consulting him / her. It's quite inevitable, especially in busy places such as hospitals and clinics, to wait for a long time. Like I said, patience is the key so you won't get irritated. Patience - The quality of being patient. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/patience

This is about the arrogant who take advantage of the voiceless poor waiting outside the doctor's room.We know that it is not a glimpse from the doctor we are waiting for.People know that the time vary with each type of patient. What I detest is the unnecessary chit chat some fools indulge inside with the irresponsible doctor without any concern for the waiting lot.

Well said balasri... Just last Monday, I was there in the clinic by 2PM and got served by 5PM. I was so irritated especially with that TV personality who was given priority when she never even called for an appointment! And then she and her husband and her Mom were there inside, hogging the doctor's time for more than 30 hours, I mean, where's the justice in that? I don't think patience can help there too...

One time, I was at the emergency room with a splitting sinus infection headache. This family had a baby whose ears were full of stuff he had shoved in it and he broke his own eardrum. You could hear that child blocks away. When it came my turn, I told them to take the baby first. I don't like clinics because they are like conveyor belts. If I just want to renew a prescription or if I was hurt at work, they're OK, otherwise I go to where I have time to think and talk to the Doctor.

balasri, Waiting to see the doctor is always a pain, especially if you are in pain. But when I finally see the the doctor, I never even think about hurrying up because others are waiting or considering any pay back. When it is my time, I want to make sure that nothing is left out or forgotten. If the appt. takes 5 minutes fine but if it takes 30 minutes to accomplish what I'm there for then so be it. The only other concern I have while in the exam room is to make sure they didn't close the door and forgotten me. It has happened. I say, be prepared and thorough. Don't let anyone rush you, especially the doctor. Your life may depend on it. leenie

Dear Leenie I think that you don't know what is happening in this country.Medical service provided to the common man is so pathetic here.It is only the cursed who will go to the Government hospital to lye down on the floor where running dogs are very common. There are incidents where these dongs have carried away the new born babies. And the poor patients are at the mercy of the doctors who play the God and look down at them like roaches. What I yearn is a kind look and a comforting word. I am a person who is ready to wait for ages when things run properly in a hospital.
