Fruit getting to be expensive

I am supposed to eat more fruit. I just got rid of the last of my red currents, and now I have about half a lb of strawberries left and I have already finished off the raspberries and the blueberries, and those were from my garden. I go to the store, and we can pick up a bunch of bananas, or if we are lucky some apples along with that. Yet the fruit I love, the berries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and the mixed berry packages are so expensive. I would love to get some of those and I do need them, being a borderline diabetic. So does it frustrate you that when you need something, it is too expensive?

That's becoming a huge problem, especially in the United States here. The obesity epidemic is only going to get worse as the economy plummets. But once we at least get a lasso on that, a lot of our other problems are at least going to stop getting worse, I assume. Who do we blame? The government? Our selves? I guess it's just a time to be more frugal, and set aside for what's important.

Considering that fruits and veggies are healthy, does that mean that if we eat the wrong type, like junk food, we die sooner and let the doctors attend more important people? Seems like a false economy to me.

I like fruits and vegetables better than meat and carbohydrates. With the rising cost of food these days, I often have to cut down on my fruit intake. I also have to switch to fruits that are not so expensive like bananas and apples instead of grapes and blueberries. I guess we all have to make some changes in our lifestyle and diet these days to save some money.

I find that with winter coming on, that berries are getting too expensive. I have a fruit garden but I do not have much left. My garden is rather small, and I just got a new growth in the raspberry patch so I did not have much that year, and it has been overcast so the strawberries were slow in ripening.

It is expensive here as well. If they wanted us to loose weight so much(the government) Then they would lower the healthy food prices. It is cheaper to eat junk food and unhealthy foods then the healthy. I would love to be able to raise strawberries but can't since my brother in law who lives next door has chickens/roosters that he lets loose during the summer and they eat everything in site.

Most of the reason for that is that berries are out of season in the northern hemisphere now and they have to be brought in from other countries like Mexico, Brazil, etc. Though fuel is now lower the stores (companies) still have to pay more for the freight due to higher costs of labor and greater distances. You will see these prices go down in the Spring and Summer.

My dad and brother used to live in Hawaii and the cost of pineapple was high there. You would think that it would be cheaper since it is one of their main products. But for some reason pineapple is exported to the mainland and then imported back to the islands at a much higher price. Go figure.

I'm sorry, suspenseful, I'll be nice to you in response to this post because you're being decent...and also because one of my granddaughter's is diabetic so I know well the importance of diet. I can imagine that fruit is pretty expensive for you this time of year, considering where you live, so it must be frustrating when you go to the stores to shop. Does your store sell frozen berries? I know they're not as good as fresh but maybe you can do something with them. I get very frustrated when I want to buy something that should be relatively inexpensive down here in Florida, like shrimp. I also pay a LOT for Maryland blue crab but, being from Maryland originally, I have some recipes for crab that I just have to make once in awhile or I go insane.

Our store sells frozen berries, but they are very expensive. We could not even buy fresh berries because it was about $5.00 for half a pound. I started to grow some blueberries, and then my husband started to talk about moving to a suite, and I am trying to discourage him as where the suites are, the groceries cost even more. I am almost running out of berries.

i know it sucks i love my fruit but i cant afford to buy much of it anymore. Hopefully prices for fruit will go down soon. I mean it seems all the food thats good for you is expensive and they wonder why so many people are over weight.

yes it does frustrate me. Gas prices are going down and food prices up. I do not understand our ecomony. It seems like the things that we need the most to survive are the things they are wanting to keep from us. I want so much and can't have them because things have gotten too expensive.

No sometimes not. It depends upon your need of quality rather than quantity because manyways if quality can be less you will find more in quantity if quality is high you will find less in quantity, thats how it goes.isn't it.

Oh,yes,it is really so depressed. At recently,in my area, the price of most of the food is higher and higher, what is more, not only the food.when I find somethings expensived , I will give up it or to find something which can instead if it and more cheap. So,if apple is more expensive than pear,I will prefer pear to apple.

I guess we are very lucky with fruit or buying of fruit in my town and probably most of the UK as we have fruit stalls set up in the town centre where you can buy cheap fruit and at the end of the day they sell scoops of bananas, pears, apples so very cheap they are actually throwing them at you, well not literally, and you can as much fruit as you can eat for half the price they charge at supermarkets etc! It's about timing and where there are more than one stall in town they set up competition so you can find even the cheapest fruit and it's still good quality!

Yes. It sure is. I love fruit but it is very expensive to buy and it does not last long before it goes bad.

Hello friend. Fruits here in my place are also very expensive, more expensive than before. The cheaper fruits are those planted in our local areas as they are easier to get.

It is very frustrating for me, too.I'm 5 months pregnant and I love to eat lots of fruits. But the prices of my favorite mangoes are so high that I'm thinking twice before buying them. Because oranges are expensive, too, I now resort to the less pricey. We have the native version of oranges which gives more "breathing space" to my purse. My son, though, loves bananas. And even they're a bit expensive, too, I still buy them. The sky is not the limit anymore, when it comes to these fruits. We now have to look at the prices first before indulging ourselves.

Yes I get so upset by the fact that something can go up in price so fast. I have noticed about a 20% increase in food prices at the grocery store. I stopped buying bananas over the summer because they had gotten so high and just this week I picked some up for 26 cents a pound I was very excited about that.

It does not frustrate me, if everyone encounters the question. What make me unhappy is that I am the only one who spend more money on something than others. No difference, no bad feeling.
