I Had A Bad Car Accident Tonight

I was on my way to get my wife. Driving on a major raod soiuthbound 2 lanes with a left turn lane. Spped limit is 50MPH. I had cruise control set at 50. As I approached a light the woman 2 vehicles in front of me, right at the light, slams on her brakes sliding half way into the left turn lane. Half her car in the driving lane and half in the turn lane. A truck right in front of slammed his brakes and swerved away in the nick of time from hitting her. I slammed my brakes but rammed the rear end of the truck. He fled the scene not even stopping to see if anyone was injured. All told the whole front end of my car as well as both fenders and one door are trashed. I fear the car may be totaled. Anyhow I am glad I have OnStar on the vehicle as they called the cars phone immediately. A free tow as well to the dealership I bought the car also. I nor anyone else was hurt at all. The woman in the car was cited for careless driving, illegal lane change, and illegal turn. I ended walking home about a 3 mile walk. Got some exercise anyhow. Now tomaoorw starts all the paper work etc. I have to call the dealership and get an estimate and a loaner car if possible. Then I also have to file a claim with my insurance company. This night SUCKED big time. I need a rest now.

UH OH! That's terrible Grandpa Bob. It seems like you are okay, right? I'm so sorry that you have to go through all the headaches. Do you know if you will get another car paid for since the car is messed up? Did you have any injuries? Did you file a police report? Did you get the truck's license plate number? Will the woman have to pay for your damages?
Once again, I'm very sorry about your car. Please keep us posted. KIT, HAND, GBY!

I am feeling okay other than stressed etc about the accident.
I checked the Blue Book price.
My car is valued at $10,165.
I feel there may be more damage than that cost though.
Both fenders, front grill and headlight assemblies,
hood, and possibly both doors as well as antifreeze tank and washer fluid tank and battery etc. A lot to replace. I am hoping it gets repaired though not totaled out. Police report filed. The driver that was the cause of it was issued tickets. Too dark to see the plates of the truck as well.
My insurance pays for damages.
It's up to them how to recoup their loss in this matter.

Mo caught the bus to work.
I am fighting with the Car dealership, ABRA Body Shop,
and my Insurance agent about a loaner/rental. Grrrr!

So far I feel fine actually.
When I slammed into the trucks rear end I did not move at all in my seat I don't think. If I am in any other pain than usual tomorrow I'll be checking with my Dr as well. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your accident. That is a bummer when people aren't paying attention and slam on their brakes like that. What kind of truck did you hit for him not to know you hit him? Did it do any damage to the truck, or just to your vehicle? And, by the way, how did your wife get home from work? Glad none of you were hurt. Was it cold when you had to walk a 3 mile distance?

It was a smaller SUV like a Blazer or that style.
Too dark too see it and get a license plate number.
From the damage to my car his right rear has to have a lot of damage as well.
But being a truck it's mostly fender and bumber damage would be my guess.
She took a bus home then walked a mile from the bus stop.
Very chilly. The temp was 19 and wind was blowing a bit making it even colder.

Wow!~Sorry to hear about your accident! Glad to hear that you
are ok though! I know that it sucks to have your car get
all messed up! And it's great that you have OnStar! I hear
that is really wonderful. I can't believe that you walked
all the way back home for 3 miles in the freezing cold! There
was no other way to get home! Well as long as you weren't hurt.
Now get some rest and you can deal with the rest tomorrow!

Now if I get this car fixed I'll still have it.

Oh gosh Grandpa Bob I am sorry to hear this. I hope that everything turns out alright. I know how it is to deal with insurance companies. Even if it is not your fault your insurance will still go up. Sorry you had to walk home. How did your wife end up getting home and why couldn't a cop give you a ride? I am sorry to hear about all of your problems. Good luck with dealing with things.

I've a good Insurance Company also.
Never had a problem with them in the past.
My wife caught a bus and walked home from the bus stop.
I had to wait well over an hour for the tow truck is one reason
the cops would not give me a ride home.
I never askled them either.

I'm so glad you weren't hurt hon! As you can tell, I'm going backwards in your discussions, as I'm replying from my email. I think the insurance from the other lady should pay for your car rental for however long you need it. And THEY should have to do all the leg work....not you. Anyway, I'm glad you're in one piece. OMG Grandpa Bob, how are you feeling today? I bet your feeling sore. It sounds like you were in the car alone. It sure is a good thing that nobody was really hurt. I hope everything turns out for you and you get a loaner car today, and the car can be fixed.
I was in a bad car accident when I was 17. (I wasn't the driver) The car was totaled. We were in Wisconsin and lived in Illinois. We had to get someone to take us home, after going to the hospital. Nobody was hurt real bad, but I have had back problems ever since.

Fighting with the dealership, insurance agent, and auto body shop over a rental as I type. Grrrr No injuries and no pain or soreness at all. I've had a bad back already and that isn;t even hurting today. Maybe it helped?

Not even sore this morning at all actually.
Pizzed as hell dealing with trying to get a rental p[aid for. I can't afford that at this time of year yet alone the deductible to repair it. Grrr Thanks frioend.

We always have seat belts on too but I do see people without them. I agree with you, anytime is never a good time having to deal with deductable's or having to get a rental but it is even worse this time of year.

The TRUCK fled the scene even though the WOMAN caused it?? Yet, she stayed and didn't hit anything? Did you get a description or anything of the truck or were there witnesses? Would your insurance company go after her since she technically caused the accident?

I am fine right now.
It wasn't that bad really as far as impact as the truck was off to the side and I had slowed to about 30 by slamming on my brakes. The airbags didn't even deploy. My guess as well as the cops guess is the truck didn't have insurance is why it hadn't stopped. Too dark and driving away too fast for me to get a plate number or a good description of it as well. If I am in pain I will see the Dr for sure. Just that it was an older SUV like Blazer or Bronco and daqrk blue or black was all I could say. Funny thing is we have the same Insurance Comapny but not the same agents. I don't know what will happen. ALl I know is I have a $500 deductible is all. And I want someone to pay thjat as well as there is no way I was at fault. Thanks also.

Like you jerzgirl, I am wondering why the driver of the truck fled the scene of the accident. By the sounds of things it was the woman driver in the car who caused the accident. Pure speculation of course but it does sound to me like the truck driver did not want to be around when the police arrived on the scene.
Here in Australia the insuraqnce company would repair the car but claim back the cost of those repairs from the peson who caused the accident. If the person is insured then the claim for repairs is made against the other insurance company.

She took the bus to work this morning.
Getting home is up in the air right now.
If I can't get the free rental as they rrepair the car,
she'll close the restaraunt early and take the bus home.

I have been in car accidents myself and they can certainly be a frustrating experience with a LOT of time consuming attention needed after the event; but I am happy to hear that at least no-one was hurt in this instance. Good luck with sorting everything out and I hope you have a good rest.

I am glad to hear you were not hurt. I wonder why the truck driver fled the scene, maybe he had no insurance, he should have checked to make sure no one was injured. Maybe they will catch him, that is a crime in itself.

More than likely because he had no insurance.
I doubt they'll find him actually.
No problem as my insurance will pay for the repairs or replacement etc.
They'll get their money from the woman whom caused the accident as well.

OK I answered one post saying I hope the accident didn't affect you directly and now I see it did. Thank the good lord you were not hurt. What's up the guy in the truck. Guilty of something no doubt??? Drinking perhaps? You just never know, it's the same thing here you need to drive your own vehicle and two or three others, it's crazy. All I can say is good you're OK and hopefully after the nerves settle down you'll be able to rest. Take Care.
