Today is laundry day for me. And I got a question. About ironing your clothes. I take my clothes out of the dryer and fold them and put them away. The ones that has to be hung I put them on clothe hangers and hang them in the closet. When I was growing up my grandmother would iron all the clothes that need ironing and hang them up. I have clothe that need ironing too but I iron before I put them on I do not have an ironing day. Like my grandmother did. I also remember when you could find jobs ironing clothes for people. My question is do you iron your clothes as needed? Or do you have a day that you iron all your clothes at once and hang them up?

I hardly ever iron anything. That is not to say that I have never ironed. I was raised by my grandmother and like yours she had strong opinions about how housework was to be done. On laundry day, she would sort the dirty clothes to be washed. There was always at least a tub full that had to be washed by hand. Guess who got to do that job. Believe me, when I got a house of my own I never hand washed another piece of clothes. If it needed washing it went into the machine and if the machine tore it up it went into the garbage. She also ironed everything, not just dress clothes. She would iron linen napkins, sheets, jeans and t shirts. I do my best to not have to iron anything. In fact I've thrown dry clothes back into the dryer because they were wrinkled.

I have done that as well. It is a waste of electricity, but it sure saves me time and effort.

I iron whenever the needs hits me. I hang all my wash and wear clothes on hangers out of the washer. I will press whatever I need at times. Some times, I will take a day and just iron. So have no set way of ironing, although I used to take one day and iron all our clothes when our kids were home. But, just being the two of us, I iron whenever I have to - usually when we want to wear something that is clean and not pressed. I will sometimes just iron slacks for my husband, though. I just don't do it all the time.

When the clothes are dry, we usually separate the ones that need to be ironed and the ones that can be hanged immediately. My mother in law would then set a time to iron all these clothes together. They say that if you iron clothes as needed, it is more costly, because everytime you need to iron something, you have will have to consume a big amount of energy to heat the iron. meaning if you will set a day or time to iron all your clothes, you will only have to use that initial energy consumption once a week. as compared to having to use it twice or thrice in a week just to iron one or two pieces of clothing

I try and iron all the clothes at once, doesn't always work as there is five of us in our family living at home. I do like to try and empty the ironing basket every time I iron. But this is not always possible either on time or anything esle that needs to be done. If I haven't time to empty the whole basket in one go I sort throught the ironing and then do just what is needed or what we will need, work clothes, school shirts etc. And then do the rest the next time I have time to do ironing.

I remember my grandmother ironing everything too. I loved visiting her and being allowed to help her iron. She would let me do all her linen napkins and table clothes. I felt like such a big help. Now, I iron strictly as needed.

I iron as needed. I do not see the sense in ironing everything at once. Sometimes the clothes will still get wrinkled hanging in the closet after ironing if the closet is too full. I feel that ironing as needed is better, because your clothes won't need a touch up before you put them on. When I was growing up, we used to have to iron all of the clothes after they were dried. That I did not like, because I really do not like to iron. Actually, my husband irons better than I do.

Hi Chevee, I simply hate ironing! I can't iron as needed, since I hate the task so much, but I would delay ironing, until I have no more clothes to wear (for working days). I try to cut down ironing by buying clothes that are crease-free or do not need ironing!

Hey chevee! When I was working I used to do laundry on Saturday and then I would iron on Sunday morning. I would iron enough clothes to wear for the week. I was working in a law firm so I had to dress up a bit. It was a pain! I had to wear suits and dressy clothes. The kind that was always very difficult to iron, like blouses, skirts, jackets. I hated ironing and still do to this day! Now if I need to iron something I just will iron it as necessary. To me ironing is the most dreaded of chores ever!

I don't iron anything unless it looks wrinkled when I want to wear it. When I was growing up, my Mom used to iron everything - even handkerchiefs and pillow cases lol. I used to help her. She would sprinkle water on them and roll them up and let them sit while ironing the other things. She didn't have a steam iron back then.

I iron the day I wear clothing but to hear you talk about an ironing day I actual think I like that idea- I may try to incorporate that into my routine and see how it works out. I'm all about trying to make my daily chores easier and that may help- I'll try it out and let you know.

I hate ironing days but I have to. I do iron our clothes once ot twice a week. A bit tiresome but I feel the need to do it. I don't want my family to walk with crumpled clothes.

I hang things as soon as possible once the dryer stops, so they do not get wrinkles. I seldom iron anything anymore. I should, it would be just a little sharper looking. I use the iron for sewing and crafts much more than I do for clothes. Mom took in ironing when I was growing up. I also liked to iron, when I was younger. It is clean smelling and warm and sometimes that is very enjoyable.

Hi Chevee, Most of my clothes not really need ironing as I live in my t-shirt and jeans and my hubby lives in his sweat shirt and tract suit bottoms, I only iron his work shirts and trousers so I only iron when need be. Hugs. Tamara
