I like The Hillbilly Housewife (hillbillyhousewife.com) in terms of frugal cooking. She has a $45 emergency menu (based on 2006 prices, however) assuming you have no basics on hand, feeding 4 to 6 people with no food assistance like Food Stamps. She also has a $70 menu assuming once again you are shopping from scratch, feeding the 4 to 6 people, as well menus based on the monthly content of "Angel Food" boxes (a program some churches participate in). She even has some "make your own convenience food" recipes, including a recipe called Magic Milkshakes that are supposed to be like Wendy's Frosties (I haven't tried it, though). I think she has a great concept, although at times I wish the website was laid out better. She also has a newsletter that you can subscribe to, and welcomes reader contributions. Sometimes I feel the recipes provided by readers do not seem especially frutal, however.

I use the Hillbilly Housewife site all the time. The recipes are great. The rice recipes are really good. The fudgy brownies are awesome. I do wish they would update the emergency menu thought since those prices are really out of date now.

Try looking up DollarStretcher. They cover lots of topics that you'll find useful. You can even subscribe to their very informative newsletters (you can choose specific topics). I've learned a lot from them these past several years already.

Hi Anne, Answering from email so not sure if this has been suggested yet but as you are in the UK this site is aimed at the UK http://www.frugal.org.uk/ hope it helps and is of some interest. I received a great book for Christmas last year which was 1001 ways to save the planet, but it had some great money saving tips wihin it. Today for instance it is really cold here and as I have no central heaing or open fire I just add or subtract layers, far more economical and this evening once I settle I will have a snuggle blanket over me rather than turn an electric fire on. Huggles. Ellie :D

I am just dropping by to check out what sites others have come up with. For myself I go to websites where I can get more bang for my buck. Goodwill has an online auction site that I often check out. I believe it is shopgoodwill.com

There are many sites geared up towards helping others save money wherever they can and I guess with the recent economic crisis, they will become more popular than ever before! Interestingly enough, this is something I was once really focusing in heavily on myself, so here are a couple I know of that have some interesting tips: http://www.doughroller.net/smart-spending/painless-ways-save-money/ http://www.frugal-living-tips.com/

Excellent question, and very relevant for today's economy. I have actually been visiting frugal living websites for several years. I find it interesting that the sudden economic downturn is making people discover what many have known all along... I agree with the last two posters. Dollar Stretcher is one of the best sites out there. They are very informative, and cover a variety of topics--everything from financial matters to household tips, tips for parents, tips for car-owners, frugal holidays, and just about everything else you can imagine. Maybe not all the advice will relate to you, but if with so much information you are bound to find something helpful. FYI--if you go looking for this site, it is simply www.stretcher.com. If you type in dollarstretcher.com, it will take you to one of those "dummy" sites with search engine links that could possibly do some bad things to your computer. The real site has the Dollar Stretcher logo with a picture of a strong man stretching a dollar bill. Good luck in your quest to live more frugally!

Good Sunday morning, Anne18...I have a site that I really enjoy, and it is more of a back to basics type site, with a really interesting forum, as well! Lots of frugal living discussions, tips, gardening, food, building, animal husbandry, etc., It is www.backwoodshome.com! Give it a try! If you can't get to the site, private message me...and I will send you the link! Looking forward to your other responses....as that is something I am doing daily, paring back! Have a great day!

As others have mentioned, The Dollar Stretcher is a really good site. Another site, which isn't specific to frugality, is Mother Earth News.
