Do you find men funnier than women?

Well I do. For some undefined reason, I find men wittier than women. Funny women of celluloid are always fat, eating lots of food with dumb one or two liners. On the contrary, the men are funny, more with their infallible sense of humour. Neither do we have many great standup comedians who are women nor more funny women around us! What could be the reason?

Hmmmm what a rude topic you've chosen to create. In my life I have known many many funny women, both thin and "fat" - your word, not mine. I think its sad that you are judging anyone's personality or humor by their size or gender. Just because there many not be as many on TV that you've seen, doesn't mean there aren't real life people out there with wonderfully witty things to say. And I can assure you, many of them aren't as judgemental as you are!

I get you more rude than my discussion!! And it's kinda unbelievable for is this the same person who I knew to be so caring and empathetic!!! Anyway, I must not get judgmental and pick up some more censures.

I personally know equal amounts of funny men and women. You have to remember, too, that for years it was not something that women did because they were women. Even still, more men become comedians, but not because they are more funny, but they are not busy raising kids (which can put a damper on a career), and other things. I have known some excellent up and coming female comics but life got in the way, where the men just did it, life or not. LOL

You know what, I have got some scathing censures on this one but you have refuted and so well you have done that! Your response makes much sense and thanks for not pouncing on me.

You are welcome. I see no reason to pounce on anyone for their opinions. What would be the point? When you attack people for their opinion, it closes their mind to other options. Keeping it a discussion where we share our thoughts is more fun than attacking people, don't you think?

Manorama - he most gifted artist of Indian cenema.
Sadly the the funny women in Hindi movies are always too fat, over eat and utter those one liners in a squeaky voice. It all started with Tun tun I think. Have you heard about the actor called Manorama who has acted in more than 1000 Tamil movies. You got to see her to believe how versatile and humorous she is.Please take a look at this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manorama

I think TUNTUN and Manorama have redefined the Indian women comic faces. I have great respect for these ladies, quite underrated and over shadowed though but they deserve a lot of credit. Hats off. Thanks for the link, bala.

Yes, men are funnier and wittier because they can make fun on so many issues. Women cannot make fun on so many issues. If you happen to see Comedy shows on TV, you will notice that most of the participants are men because sometimes I've observed to my dismay that they speak double meaning dialogues and make fun of women unashamedly, which a woman comedian may not like to do or if she does, may be looked down upon. Woman comedian have limited areas, where they could speak out and therefore, you find them less funny. If they start using double meaning dialogues or start saying the things as some men do, they will be looked with the eyes of suspicion and some of the men may presume that those women are 'easy' to get.

That is what I wanted to tell. In our country women are especially treated like that, may be a culture difference. And U agree to every bit you have said there. Women do run the risk of being mis interpreted by being critical and our society do not have much of recognised female comic stars. Thanks for a great response, as always.

Wow. So wrong on so many levels. If I was you I'd watch Joan Rivers, Lucy Porter or Jo Brand do standup. I saw Joan Rivers live not so long ago, and a guy heckled her, and they were absolutely slaughtered by her. And not all funny women are fat, and eating lots of food with "dumb one or two liners". Look at Ricky Gervais - fat, evidently eats lots of food and essentially has one character. Bill Bailey - great comedian but not exactly slimline. Phil Jupitus. Need I continue? And the sarcasm wasn't lost on me.

Thanks for your response. I am little conversant with all the names that you mentioned about. I am glad that you have come up with your viewpoint. I really appreciate. Will do some research on the names. Thanks, again. Tell me one thing, do you find more funny women around you, in day to day life? May, be I am surrounded by a bunch of dumb women, LIKE MYSELF, who are not funny or it could be that I am way too dumb to conceive their wits!!

You're welcome! I guess sometimes you just never see the other side of the coin! And I work with both men and women, and I find that the guys do sometimes tend to be funny, but one girl I work with can slay me with some of the jokes she comes out with or comments.

well Mimpi....when it comes to being witty,I believe both men and women can balance thier intelligence equally on any platform. But if you are looking at the performance part alone, like in the celluloid, then I beleive men outshine women. This I believe is because women are more self conscious of their personality and how they carry themselves on stage, and thus are not able to be as expressive as men, when it comes to enacting comedy.

Yes dear, and for many women it becomes a real ordeal to laugh at themselves or to make themselves a laughing stock which is what comedy is all about....

It depends. I think women have more topics to cover when it comes to comedy and real life. And I think some things men can truly only get away with more so than women. Like trash talk...I mean I know women can do it and I know when men get a little overzealous even they look bad, but usually when women do it it really looks bad. But it also depends on how they got their comedic sense. Like me I know I got mine from a combo of my mother, my father, and my one brother. Now my other brother he tries but the poor thing can't even tell a good knock-knock joke right.

I think it's the culture, women as children are not encouraged to be funny. However i have know some very funny women. But you are right there are many more men. I think as boys it's what they are encouraged to be if they are not into sports, or geeks or bullies, they get recognition as being funny.

I think I find men more entertaining because women are more prone to be reserved. Females are the first ones to tell someone that they are being embarassed, or that something is childish or stupid. Though it is reported most females look for humour in a relationship and often fall for the lighthearted man. Go figure.

yes i find always that all the men are funnier than women,.. most of my friends (male) including me sooooo funny,.. all the girlfriends that i have ,.. actually i am the one that make them laugh,.. or happy,.. so the reson for this behiviour is,..... The researchers found that men and women share much of the same humor-response system; both use to a similar degree the part of the brain responsible for semanticknowledge and juxtaposition and the part involved in language processing. But they also found that some brain regions were activated more in women. These included the left prefrontal cortex, women, and the nucleus accumbens …which is part of the mesolimbic reward center. This has all the charm and address of the learned Professor Scully's attempt to define a smile, as cited by Richard Usborne in his treatise on P. G. Wodehouse: "the drawing back and slight lifting of the corners of the mouth, which partially uncover the teeth; the curving of the naso-labial furrows … " But have no fear—it gets worse: "Women appeared to have less expectation of a reward, which in this case was the punch line of the cartoon," said the report's author, Dr. Allan Reiss. "So when they got to the joke's punch line, they were more pleased about it." The report also found that "women were quicker at identifying material they considered unfunny."

I find it odd that you would mention that the women comedians are fat. What does that have to do with whether or not they are funny? To that end, I would also mention the names Lewis Black, John Candy, John Belushi, Chris Farley and John Goodman.

Overall, when it comes to a sense of humour, I think it ultimately comes down to the individual more than their gender. There are amazingly funny people of both genders that I have seen to date such as Joan Rivers, Tina Fey, Robin Williams and Russell Peters and it is their own unique take on the world around them that makes them hilarious! What I will say though, is that men maybe take certain aspects of life far less seriously than many women and this may be a contributing factor towards there being more men comedians than women. Men are also less offended easily and can generally take good natured "abuse" better than some women without getting insulted as easily; so maybe this too is another contributing factor. Either way, give me either any day! As long as they make me laugh then I'm a happy camper!

I don't find this to be the case. I know both men and women that are so funny. I have even been told that when some of my friends or family are down and out they call me because they say I cheer them up. I don't really know how I do this other than saying things that lighten their hearts and give them a few laughs. It's not necessarily jokes it's just what's said in a comment or statement. We have many women that are funny or commedians. Just look it up on the net, you'll see Rosan Bar, and many others that I can't seem to find their names right now.

Yes, I find men funnier than women. That's probably because they have less inhibitions than women. They are also not so conscious of how they look. They don't mind if they look ugly, weird or however they look. There are more funny stuff they can do because they have less physical limitations.

Personally, in my own personal case, I am far more wittier than my husband and most men that I know. My sense of humor is what keeps me going, even through the toughest of times. I've known some very witty women during my lifetime so I'm going with women being wittier than men. I know some witty men and one, in particular, is the funniest person I've ever met. Everything that rolls off this guy's tongue is funny. We went to dinner with this man and his wife once and I didn't think my husband was going to be able to finish eating because he was laughing so much. But he's an exception. Most of the women I know have a rather dry sense of humor and, to me, that makes them even funnier.
