Update on my Dog

I have received several messages regarding "Heroes" condition. He is doing great! I took him back to the vet today and he got an excellent report. On the way to the vet he started puking in my SUV but the vet says it was just motion sickness so he is home and feeling great now. His staples will come out on Thursday and he is healing very well. The only problem is trying to cope with him being in the house! He is staying in for another week or so to prevent any infection and I have had him in my utility room. Now that he is up and moving he is nosy and wants to come out and join us. I let him out last night and he is hilarious. He is 2 years old and has never been inside except when he was first born! LOL He laid in front of the TV last night totally amazed and trying to figure out what in the world it was! My husband is really liking him being in the house so this may turn into another battle! LOL Thanks so much for your concerns and the boy that shot him came over yesterday evening to work and after he finished he spent about an hour in my living room just petting hero and talking to him. I think they are going to be friends now! LOL

Great news. Why not let him start staying indoors more often when he is all healed? My beagle, Buster, is basically an outdoor dog but I let him stay inside a lot. He runs around out back more than enough. He has stayed out for hours on end in the past. He has a dog house with an old blanket and hay in it for warmth and softness etc. But he is part of the family and he and I prefer he stays near me most the day. Glad the boy enjoys Hero's company and vice versa. That's a great thing. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Why not let him start staying indoors more often when he is all healed? Becasue he is too big! LOL Not to mention he loves to chew. He was laying in the floor last night watching the TV and just laid his little innocent head over and tried to chew the corner of my entertainment center! Nope.....not happening!.. I love him but he has to go out.....I think

That is absolutely wonderful!! I am sitting here with tears running down my cheeks. It strikes me that the boy is genuinely sorry, and it wasn't a deliberate action. At 16 not all kids are responsible enough to go to someone and say "I accidentally shot your dog, we need to rush him to a vet." Thankfully you didn't go the "official" reporting routes that might have changed the boy's life forever. Hopefully by the interaction he will learn responsibility for his actions and will realize that the things he shoots are living breathing creatures and why shoot them just for fun rather than for food. If the parents were able to pay for everything, then they really don't need "game" for food. Isn't it great that the only future battle will be whether the dog will be allowed to be in the house? The other thing about his puking in the car is that it could be a combination of the motion, the injury and any possible medication. I know you are soooo worried about Hero and anything out of the ordinary will cause alarm. I would be the same way! I just don't do well at cleaning up dog puke...I tend to add to the mess with my own!

The other thing about his being inside, one night you'll discover that he's in bed with you...and it gets mighty crowded with a large dog sleeping with you!!! With my mini Dachshunds it seems like I am sleeping on the edge of the bed constantly. Then of course I have four cats and three of the four love my bed because it is a heated water bed...what better place to have a long nap? So, I get whatever room is left between the animals. Thankfully I don't have a husband too!

First and foremost, how is your baby doing? Is he still in the house or is he well enough to be outside again? Hug him for me and tell him how happy I am that he's okay! Thank you so much for the best response! I seem to get a best response when I really need the boost. It hasn't been a good month for me, between finding out about the heart murmur and impending surgery (which I hope to be able to put off for a while) and then my best friend is having her husband and is going to divorce him...but in the mean time I am busily loaning them money right and left. My last $14 is going to them because they don't have the money to get his medications. I wouldn't mind except it is getting to be constant...I can't afford it because I am on disability income. I'm going to post another rant about it shortly...simply because I really need to vent the problem out! Thank you again so very much for the best response, it's like an early Christmas gift for me!!! (My finals were the second, I just finished up my last final a couple of hours ago...I have a whole month off!!! YIPEEE!!!!! I can clean house and sleep late etc. It's bad when you look at your break as being able to clean house !!) Thank you again for the present.

I'm glad I didn't take legal action too. I think it is all going to work out for the best. And as for him "staying" in the house....nope not happening! LOL He has been outdoors for way too long and anyway his mom would get lonely (she already is) if he doesn't rejoin her for a play buddy. And if they both move in I'm movin' on out! LOL Thanks for your response!

It just takes a little work & he'll learn how to act indoors. If you've checked my profile you've seen my 2 hounds ( I can almost gaurantee they're bigger than yours ) & they come in for a few hours nightly. They have a doggie door , which locks with a second large wooden door , which allows them to come & go once it's open. So long as we don't leave anything laying about ungaurded that they might find interesting everything's fine. They even know not to get on the furniture or which rooms they're allowed/not allowed into ( though they'll try to sneak a peek if they think no one's watching ). Glad to hear he's recovering well.

Of course it's a wreck, it's their room. You should see what my dog pen looks like. But they know the rules of the house & we're watching them.

I did check out your two and they are beautiful! It would be close on their size. But the only house dog I ever had was a yorkie and you had to watch close so you didn't sit on her! LOL Now you just pray that hero doesn't want in your lap! LOL My dogs have a room at the back of the barn that they stay in of night and I had already noticed that they are not good housekeepers! LOL The longer he stays in the more my husband is geting used to him. We'll see what happens! LOL

I'm glad Hero's doing so well. Puking in the car is no big deal. A lot of dogs and people do it. If hubby want's him inside, how about a compromise? Let him come in when there is someone to watch him like a hawk. Give him chew toys so he learns not to chew the furniture and things he's not supposed to chew. Outside if your gone or can't watch him closely. Kinda like with a puppy.

Ok he's not going to turn into an inside dog unless your husband convinces you. I'll lay off. A tire? He's that bad? Some dogs are just great chewers.

Now listen up CatLady HE AINT MOVIN IN! A chew toy? You got any spare tires laying around? (j/k) I'm glad he is better too. He minds really well. We sent both of them to obedience training when they were young because Huskies love to run and we wanted to be able to allow them to run and not to get away from us. It's just hard to be stern with him when he is injured! Makes me wonder how in the world I managed to raise two boys! Thanks for responding and have a great day!

Hubby is in his glory! LOL He gets to spend some time with this kid and teach him some hunting safety rules. Both of my boys are grown so I think he is having a good time having a kid around again! LOL

I am so happy! I was just writing a message to you asking how Hero was. While writing I was 'dinged' that I had email and it was your post! If he's on antibiotics, that probably contributing to the motion sickness. Sounds like you have the makings of a partial house dog. Just for fun, what was he watching on tv? Would laugh if it was the Survivor Series...lol. Did you opt for the work instead of the extra money? Whatever you chose, it sounds like the correct choice. Hero is a lucky dog, and luckier for the great family he has.

Yes after a long talk with dad and the boy we returned the money and opted for him to come over after school and on Saturdays and do some work that we needed done. Also my husband thought it would be a good idea to teach him some safety lessons on hunting (his speciality! LOL) He was watching "Jingle All The Way" with us! LOL He would just tilt that head and perk those ears up like he was going to chase the people (which is his speciality...chasing! LOL) Thanks for your concerns about him. If he was younger I would change his name to "Lucky".

It's good to know yor dog is doing better. He is a gorgiouse dog I want to get a siberian husky puppy in the spring time. They remind me so much of wolves the looks of them and I love wolves and they are the closest I'm going to come to one of them. Him being out will do him sme good they are bred for that kind of thing and let him in at night that's what I am going to do when I get mine. Have fun with him and good luck.

Hey fasttalker! I am so happy to hear that he is doing so well! What a brave dog! I wish you would let him be an indoor dog! He has been through so much and I would be afraid for him to be outside anymore! I'm glad the kid is doing some work for you! I'll bet it is hard for him to even look at the dog, but I'm glad that they are friends. I still think about what happened and I get so upset. I was thinking about it before I went to sleep the other night and I was telling my boyfriend what happened and I just started crying. I don't even know your dog and I am so upset! I just can't handle any animal being hurt!

Thank You Opal. I truly don't think he would be content inside. He is 2 years old and if you know anything about Huskies you know how they love the oudoors and love to run run run!LOL Although I will say he is getting more comfortable inside. He has picked out his own rug in the living room and goes to bed in the utility room of a night now! He doesn't hav the energy that he thinks he should have yet so he wears out quickly. Thanks for the response

Thank you so much for the update. Heroe is a great name. It s so good to hear he is doing so well. I was wondering why you don't want the dogs in the house? This is not criticism just wondering. Sometimes people are alergic to caas and dogs. I live alone and my dog or sometimes dogs are in every night. I love them inside with me and it's a measure of protection. I always watch my dogs and cats because they hear things I don't. I am so glad the boy is coming over and working for you. I feel like he has really learned his lesson. Sitting with Heroe is good for him and Heroe. I am so sorry this had to happen but it seems to be working out quite well. What a way to learn a serious lesson. I have to praise you for the way you are handling the young man, you are helping to turn this into a positive for his future. I am also wondering how your hand is doing? The focus has been on the dog surviving and now that we know he is going so well, I am wondering about you!!!

Oh I'm not against dogs in the house. I had a yorkie for years. Huskies are just not a breed for indoors. First of all their size is a problem for m although some like bigger dogs inside. But thy are bred for running. I have to watch them very clos in the summer so tha they don't verheat. They just love to run. I truly don't think a Huskie would be happyindoors. Maybe if they had ben in all of their life but he is 2 years old and hehas never been inside until now. My hand is healing nicely. I have a nice little C pattern on the palm of my hand! LOL I don't know if you're familiar with Huskies or not but they do this talking thing and I have been showing my hand to him every day and saying sorry. Today he is working on saying it! LOL Thanks for your response

I am very impressed, ma'am. Not very many are able to see the bigger picture and forgive. I am very glad to hear of both Hero's progress, and the boy's. It's amazing, isn't it? How different things can be when we react with love in our hearts, instead of anger? You made a wonderful choice. And it's one that will stay with that boy forever. You've turned a negative into a positive, and in doing so, you've changed that boy's path. Congratulations on making a difference, ma'am!

i don't think dog is a good.all my life i hate dogs.because i was always bit by dogs.and i also find more and more people like animals.and act them as their pets.i think that's a dangerous thing.most of people were bit by their pets.and if the pets bit a man,the man will got sick.so why we have pets, and cost so much money on pets.

I have two dogs and have only been bitten once by them. I've been bitten many times by other dogs and cats. My puppy had her leg trapped in the door of her opened cage and she panicked. In her panic she bit my hand that was holding her leg. I was trying to free her and she was biting me out of fear. It was ok. I understood she was just a frightened puppy. I wasn't mad. I didn't react to the biting. I didn't get sick. Dog make good pets if a person has the time and money and commitment to take care of the dog for life. The life of a dog is about 10 to 20 years. They are expensive. They need food and medical treatment. It costs a lot of money. It also takes a lot of time to train a dog. After they are trained it is still takes a lot of time to keep them happy.

Well dehong some people don't like dogs. And usually it stems from a bad experience with one. Most domestic animals are not dangerous unless they have been trained to be that way. I got bit by my dog during this incident and as far as getting sick, I never gave it a second thought. He is up to date on his shots. But if you think about it..if someone shot you in the hip with a 38 you would probably bite someone too! Thanks for responding!
