Do you like to snorkel? Have you ever tried?

Any snorkel loving friends out there on myLot? Where is the most beautiful place you have ever snorkeled? Or if you have not snorkeled but would like to learn, where do you think you would like to snorkel for the first time?

I can't snorkel because I'm too tempted to swim under the water. Plus, I can never find good enough eye wear hehe If I could choose someplace, I guess it would be where the water is blue and the marine life is plentiful. There's this one place with tens of thousands of the non-stingy kind of jellyfish, that would be the sweetest, probably, for me.

I have trouble finding eye wear I'm happy with too. Just a minor annoyance compared to what I'm seeing when I suffer through it.

I have snorkled! Off the coast of hawaii...off Hanama bay....in the gulf of mexico and also when I went on a cruise in the Caribbean.....the Caribbean was best. We went to an island the cruise line owns and they have it all set up...there was a sunken ship....an airplane and something else.....you swim with the fish, some of the most beautiful in the world! It was great fun! You do have to watch out for things like coral which get under your skin and cause serious infections...but if you are very careful it's wonderful!

You have an interesting snorkelling history. Even the threat of danger to make it more exciting. That's fun.

I went snorkeling for my first time in Aruba, on my honeymoon almost 4 years ago. For me, it was horrible because my mask kept leaking and I was not able to see a lot. I don't think I'd like to try it again, it seems like way too much work. I'd rather go scuba diving and take a course in it.

I've never snorkeled but I have a friend who lives off the coast of Florida and she loves doing it. She's my Godkids mother. Maybe the next time we go down there, if we have enough time to, she'll take us. I think off the coast of Florida would be a great place or somewhere off the coast in the southern area but one has to be really careful and know what's in the water before getting in and finding out the hard way. YIKES! lol

Yeah, I know what you mean. I am not terribly adventurous with my snorkelling. I go to the areas that tourist are lead to and follow directions. We have tried some off the beaten path places in Maui but only after many, many friends we know have found the places and tell us exactly what to be prepared for.

I love to snorkel but there aren't a lot of places on the west coast where the water is clear enough to enjoy it. I snorkel regularly in La Jolla but my favorite place to snorkel is Haunauma Bay on Oahu. The water is crystal clear and the fish are so beautiful. Other favorite places are The Bahamas and off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

I believe Haunauma Bay on Oahu is where I learned to snorkel. I forget names.... if that is the Bay with the blow hole that shoots periodically, then that is where I was. Looking forward to the Bahamas someday myself.

I absolutely love snorkeling! My husband dives but thats a little scary for me. One of my favorite spots to snorkel is in Akumal, Mexico. There is a little place there called Ya Kul, it's just a small place with a little pier that you can sit on and put on your gear. If your feet are dangling in the water, the fish just swarm around them. They are beautiful, yellow, blue, orange. Akumal means land of the turtles in Mayan. Many times I have floated in the lagoon and seen sea turtles. Another one of my favorite places is Cozumel, Mexico, the reefs and fish are stunning. There is nothing like being in warm, turqoise Caribbean!

I have never tried snokerling. But I have always wanted to try it. It is something I have said I wanted to do since I was a small child. Since I live closer to the ocean, maybe one day I will be able to go at least once. I think it would be alot of fun.

no I don't know how but I think it is exciting, to explore the ocean bottom must be a real treat.

Hi makingpots, I love the Hawaiian Christmas greeting you have on your profile page. It reminds me of the old song by Bing Crosby. I wish you and yours 'the same' this season, by the way. I'm with 'faith' here, as per her earlier response. I'd never try snorkeling myself, but do think it's great for those who enjoy such things. I'd prefer a glass bottom boat tour, which unfortunately I missed out on when in Hawaii. I was too sick to leave my hotel room. I took a cruise once, and some of our group snorkeled on the islands of Aruba and Grand Cayman. They were all very impressed. Your trip must be coming up soon? Have a wonderful time, and I'm looking forward to lots of related discussions, when you return.

I have never snorkeled and am too old to learn now but I have seen it on TV and there are quite a few places that are breathtakingly beautiful.. I am not sure where they were but the underground scenery was so much nicer than the scenery we see everyday.. I will do my snorkeling on the sofa..

I've never snorkeled before but I would love to. The water needs to be really warm though and it would have to be a tropical island.

About 23 years a go, we went to Cancun, Mexico. There is a little island not far from where we were called, Island of the Virgins(roughly translated, can't remember the actual name of the island). Our group snorkeled there. I was not able to because I was pregnant, and the coral was very dense where we were. But, from what I saw from the shallow water, I think if I ever had the chance to go again, that is where I would like to snorkel. The water was this incredible turquoise blue/green, the coral was absolutely beautiful, and fish I saw looked like they had been colored with the brightest crayons I have ever seen. I was really disappointed that I was not allowed to venture out beyond the shore line.
