How do you prefer your hot tea or coffee?

It is winter season in many parts of the world and many of us love to have a cup of hot tea of coffee to refresh ourselves. How do you prefer to have your hot coffee or tea? Do you intend to sip it when it is steaming or piping hot or do you wait for it to cool down? I have observed some people sipping piping hot coffee without any expressions on their face. They would just sip their tea or coffee as they are enjoying a cold tea or coffee. However, some of them allow the beverage to cool down and then drink it sip by sip. When I go for coffee or tea and if it is steaming hot, I prefer it to cool down, I just cannot drink it steaming hot. What do you do in such a situation, do you like your tea of coffee piping hot or do you prefer otherwise. Thanks in advance.

It's tea all the way. I prefer tea to coffee, anytime. My morning has to be with a nice cup of Darjeeling tea, I don't get started without it. I am quite a maniac about tea brewing. It has to be near perfect. In office I drink masala tea. The one with masala, milk, tea, lots of sugar. Coffee, if at all I drink, its mostly in the evening when I hang out with friends in a coffee shop. I love cakes with coffee. And I am with you on drinking it hot thing. I just CANNOT drink anything hot. It has to be sufficiently cooled down. people thing I am weird, but that's how i am!

It is interesting to know that you love to have your brewed tea and you want it perfect, what I understand - you start the day with your bed tea. I feel you adopt the correct approach i.e. you do not take anything too hot, I also cannot and I feel that anything too hot or too old is not good for us. Many thanks for sharing.

Huh..you are quite observant in this aspect. You noticed all the funny facial twist when people drink from a hot cup of coffee or tea. For all you know they are enjoying it and is expressed in their facial actions. For me, I prefer my drinks to be pipping hot, the aroma of coffee is best when it is just brewed and I would not enjoy my coffee if it has gone to room temperature. It should be hot, hot, hot. Sipping it slowly as I surf or read the morning papers gives me full satisfaction. But on certain cases, when I needed a change I would request my coffee to be cold, I mean ice cold and put in lots of icecubes especially on a hot weather. so it can either be very hot or very cold. It all depends on the condition and time. Teatime or breakfast means it should be hot coffee. Enjoy the hot stuff!

Zandi! Many Thanks for being so observant and analytical about my 'observations' towards human behaviour. Yes, you are right when the coffee is brewing you can enjoy its aroma. Do you take some precautions, while sipping very very hot coffee so that you should not hurt yourself and how about taking making the cofee hot coffee cold through ice cube, that too in winter, sounds quite interesting to me. Many thanks again for sharing the taste and experience of sipping hot coffee.

Yes, here also people take biscuits or snacks, while they enjoy their tea/coffee.

Since we don't have winter here, drinking ice cold coffee is wintering our throat of the heat outside. I don't know whether it is a common practice in your country but it is a common sight here where people 'wash' their bread or biscuits in hot coffee before eating them. Do you do that there too?

I'm more of a tea drinker but at the same time do indulge in a nice hot cup of coffee especially in the winter season. I prefer either of them as hot as they can be served, sipping it slowly at the same time ,being careful not to burn my lips or my tongue.

Do you allow it to cool down or just enjoy it steaming hot? I appreciate your point that you do not allow your lips or tongue to get burnt. Many thans for sharing.

I think I prefer to have tea. I use to drink a lot of coffee, much more than tea. But then, last summer, I got really sick. My immune system was compromised. Once I got better, I found out that my tastes had slightly changed. And so, I lost taste for coffee, and began to like tea a little more.

Hello dpk.....well I have no winter here in Kerala, and right now the sun is shinning brightly and there is a cool breeze blowing too......Well honestly my preference for coffee or tea depends on my mood.....When I am relaxing, and watching th TV or reading the newspaper,I love to have piping hot tea,and like to sip it little by little ,savouring its taste slowly. But when I am in a hurry I like to drink medium hot tea and like to gulp it down at one go......But if the tea becomes very cold I either like to reheat it or just throw it away......if I have no other choice.......

Rose, You know very well how to enjoy your tea or coffee. But when you are in hurry, how can you have medium hot tea, I mean do you allow it to cool, before you gulp it? If winter is not there, you are welcome here in Delhi to enjoy the winter.

I like my tea hot but not boiling water level. Whenever it is still too hot to drink i enjoy holding the cup with the palm of my hands so that my cold hands will absorb the heat. I don't like it when my tea gets too cold either. I guess part of enjoying the drink is when it is hot, but i don't want to be burning my tongue so I usually let it sit for a while before i take a sip.

Hello dpk. I love my tea to cool down before I drink it. Besides, the tea needs to stay for a little while before it tastes good. I drink tea every day when I work in the office during the daytime, but not in the evening as it will keep me awake when it is time to sleep.

So it means, that you take your time to enjoy tea or your hot drink and you allow it to cool down a bit, before devouring it.

Hi dpk, You have come out with a discussion apt for the season. I think you are feeling too cool. I am not taking much tea/coffee. If I take my preference is tea but I like coffee also. I don't like hot/cold tea or coffee, I like to have in medium temperature.

Heyya friend! I like to let mine cool too. As a matter of fact I will add cold creamer to my coffee to cool it down a bit. I'm not much of a hot tea drinker but I will drink it cold..usually with ice. I think I enjoy cold drinks more than hot ones although this discussion is making me want a cup of hot chocolate.lol Take care.

Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji, Well, I wish to sip slowly and enjoy with some side music/gossiping in our family. it should not be taken as if i have to catch the train. But, if tea, which i prefer most over coffee, be served in chatty (mud) cups, it would give a different taste altogether. have you ever had that type of thing any where at Railway station. i also like that tea should always be made/prepared and served and not made and brought. While I was in darjeeling area of West-bengal, In December 1962, we used to take tea at cook house of the hotel, if brought, used to be cold. may God bless You and have a great time.

The funny thing is I grew up on hot tea all of my life. I would say that I have consumed it more than coffee. I will buy coffee when I worked outside of the home or just because. But I only drink hot tea at home. I like my beverages very hot but I will blow it to get the steam off and sip it until it cools down enough for me to drink it because I don't want my lips or tongue burned. However, on a cold winter day anything will do hot tea, coffee, cappucino or hot chocolate. Actually I drink them both all year round!
