What would you say if someone told you this?

Everyone, religious or not, has heard aof the virgin Mary, and the story of how she gave birth to the baby Jesus, while supposedly never having done the deed. To a lot of people, especcially those who are not religous, this is a very controversial subject and a lot of people don't believe it. So, for all of you, religious or not, what would you say if someone told you they believed that Mary was indeed not a virgin, but simply cheated on Joseph and never told anyone, leading them to believe she was a virgin, either that or that she had slept with Joseph, but they both lied about it? I am pretty sure this discussion has occurred in other places before and is not the first time it has arisen. I was just curious what you myLotters think. This discussion does not necessarily reflect my own opinion. It is just a curiosity thing as to how people from varying situations would respond. Please no nastiness either towards myself or each other. Tell us, if you don't mind, if you are or are not religious and if so, are you christian. Do you or do you not believe the story of the virgin Mary? Why or why not? and what is your take on the above idea that Mary was indeed not a virgin? I look forward to reading the wide variety of responses. Have fun Happy Mylotting Merry Christmas Happy Hannukkah Happy Quanza Happy New Year And Whatever else you myLotters celebrate this time of year!!!

There are so many Fantastic stories in Christianity, and this one is just another Humdinger. Nobody knows, and only the Religious care. There are many stories dating back to antiquity, of virgin births, and the Son of God. Most of these stories were dreamt up in ancient Egypt, several thousand of years before Jesus was supposedly born in Palestine, and they run almost along word for word together, Like two dogs attached and trotting down a dusty road. Strangely enough the Egyptian stories talk of a Virgin birth as well. Its uncanny how these two stories have an interlocking theme. I gave up Christianity many years ago, and took up Spiritualism. I love the Christmas story because it is so outofthisworld. Only God knows the truth, and She isn't telling!

Haha I love that you put she, rofl. I am not religious myself, but I agree that if there is a god, only they really know what has happened since our creation. I also find it very chauvenistic that Christians just assume god is male. Nobody really knows if god is male or female, so that kind of assumption is just silly. My belief is that we don't know what has transpired, nor did the people who authored the different sections of teh bible, so nobody can claim to be entirely accurate. Anyway, it was just an interesting topic. Love the referencde to the egyptians too btw, hehe.

God says that he/she is neither male nor female. The fact is that everything of authority in that time was given a male persona.

Beths Jesus Calls out father why thou forsaken me because he was not send here on the will of his mother. Mary was just a vessel for what work his heavenly father wants him to do. There is no significant for Mary or Joseph. God saw two upright citizens and choose them to bring forth his son. He has to do the will of God.

I am not a religious person but I am very spiritual. I was raised Catholic and have always questioned that story as well as many others told to me in the church. If someone told me that, I'd probably agree with them as I too find it hard to believe. I could,of course, be wrong and I would not want to offend anyone that does believe this story. Every religion has different beliefs and feels very strongly about them. Who knows what is true and what isn't? I chose years ago to just try to be a decent, good person and not belong to any particular religion.

That's pretty much me too. I do not believe you have to be any religion to be a good person, as long as you have a reasonable moral code. Things like the ten commandments for example should be common sense, no killing, no stealing, stuff like that. Anyone who thinks those things are good things is just whack.

Hi zhuuraan, I have a maid, she been pregnant in a virgin situation. She have petting with her bf and the doctor tell them that she still a virgin. The sperm spray only at the surface and turn out it's swimming enter her. Every body a bit surprise. I believe Mary a holy virgin girl that have no lush passions in her mind. People like that always be a legend. Other wise that time, people will digg some more information about her activity in every day..

wow It's a tickle discussion. Yes. I often heard statement like that. And I always esteeming freedom of notion. In this case I have an oppinion that Human were differentiated became two big faction purtuant to clan: 1. Clan of Adam; This clan believes in God. They were the religious people, hence they must accepted what been the prophets said. So they must believe that Mary was a virgin as typed in some Holly. 2. Clan Of Evolution. They would not believe about Adam as their's ancestors. They more trust a real science. Science of evolution said that human evolution or anthropogenesis is a part of biological evolution concerning the emergence of homosapiens and so on. So here I was very enunciated when people who's not clan of Adam were doubting of the virgin Mary story.

I believe the story of Virgin Mary. I do not think people should spectulate over this story if they are gonna say negative things about it. Anything is possible and if you believe things can happen that normally do not happen.

I think that people have the right to speculate over whtever they please, especially if it is something that supposedly happened over 2000 years ago, and is pretty vague anyway

I personally believe that Joseph was the natural father of Jesus, and that Jesus was the messiah. Funny, but I started a discussion on why the Jewish people cannot accept Jesus as the Messiah. Prior to that I did believe in the immaculate conception of Christ. I changed my belief within the confounds of that discussion. I still have more research to do, but my original belief makes no sense to me anymore. Happy holidays to you as well

Hey Zhuuraan, first of all i'm not a christaian to comment on this subject since me commenting on this issue could create a possible trigger on the christianity community and i think that Virgin Mary would not have lied and i think a lie cant travel upto 2000 years in this earth and thanks for your wishes but in India as a Hindu we would be celebrating Pongal which falls on January 13,14 and 15th and the Tamil New Year also falls on the same day for us and thanks for your wishes....happy mylotting..

I don't think it's very likely that she cheated on Joseph, because he wouldn't have stayed with her if she did. The only reason he decided to support her was because an angel came and comforted him and affirmed Mary's story, remember? So maybe it would be more likely that her and Joseph conceived the child and made the whole thing up. But that doesn't really make sense either, because it would be more likely that they would just have a shotgun wedding.

Well, I don't wanna be rude but I don't believe in being Pregnant and still be "Virgin", then I heard that God actually made Mary pregnant... hm... then told her to marry Joseph.
