First time with a digital camera

My husband has arthritis so now I have to take the pictures. Now the digital camera we have is only 5 meg and I do have a cell phone that has only 1.5 meg, so the picture quality is not that good. I have been practicing with my cell phone camera, so now I am getting the hang of our Canon Power Shot. I have to get to hold the camera steady, and to click pictures of my granddaughter while she is standing still (seldom does). So how easy was it to learn to operate your digital camera?

hi suspenseful! well i am not a very techie person myself. so for my second digital camera, which was hiight-tech, i learned to use it in normal mode after about a year until my husband tinkered with it and we learned that there are so many options or settings to choose from. hehehe anyway, the best thing i can tell you is to read the instruction manual and practice with it before an event. you will be fine. :-) take care and God bless you! happy new year@!:-)

Same to you. I have a brother-in-law who is a professional photographer, but he is in British Columbia and we are in Manitoba, so cannot get help that way. But at least I did not put my finger over the lens as my younger son did.

I still have a 3.2 MP camera that takes good pictures. Unless you are going to go bigger than 8x10 then a 5MP camera is sufficient. Remember at the time this camera was built it was state of the art. Of course there are improvements like image stabilization and the megapixel count has gone up but do not despair about your camera you can still take good pictures. If your granddaughter will not sit still you might try the sports mode as this is made for moving objects. Some cameras have a children setting on them just for this reason. The best way to learn how to take pictures is practice frequently. The digital camera is great as you can erase the bad pictures right away.

The only time my granddaughter sits down is when she is on someone else's nap. I have to remember to wear my reading glasses because looking in the back is a lot different from when I had a snap shot. At least this is much easier then the 35 mil. When my husband bought it it was state of the art, and we have a 3.2 mp camera but my sonss's friend lost the battery charger that was almost the same cost as the camera and you had to order it. It is a JVC. So make sure you do not lose the battery charger.

My snapshot type cameras were easy to use. When I first got my Digital Rebel, though, I was overwhelmed by all the features that it had. But, it is very easy to use once you figure out how to use all the buttons.

It looked all so complicated to me. I was used to the Brownie Snapshot camera, and not to the Digital. Now they are so reasonable, I might get one for myself instead of using my husband/s.

Well the digital camera we have is actually my sons, but I am going to save up for one..And according to my daughter, I still don't use the camera well, but I don't think I do that bad of a job, she is just too much of a perfectionist..

I am thinking of getting my own camera. 5 mg is a bit too small for me and since the price of them are coming down, I should be able to save for the 10 mg one with no problem.

It'sonly practice, like so many things in life...I have no doubt you will get the hang of it, especially with such special subjects to enthuse you! My wife's arthritis also hampers her photography; but it is mostly a matter of finding the right camera (not to small, because she in=s no longer flexible or dextrous; not too heavy, because her strength is limited and her wrists tire so easily, and with image stabilization).

Reading the manual helps, if you lost it then there are other ways to learn from it like poking with it. My children even know how to use the camera because I let them take a shot for some of my solo pics.lol;-) There was even one time one of my cameras fell. I have to give it to my sister and hse have it fixed. We can also look at the website to be able to study about the camera, that way it will be easier for us to use it. I don't think it's not that difficult to operate a digital camera. And yes your practicing is a way to go.;-)

If you lose the manual they are usually readily available on the manufacturer's website as a download.

Yeah that is the bad things about all cameras is getting people to wait while the pictures takes and with digitals they can become impatient. I have a digital one and you have to wait about 15-30 seconds before you can take another one. I had a few groaners at Christmas dinner saying hurry up..

I lve my digital camera, you can take hundreds of pictures and not have to worry about the cost of developing all of them. You can pick and choose which ones you want to print. I have had mine for over a year and I am still learning things.

I love our digital camera. If the photo isn't good enough you just take another. Love the fact that you can see the photo ahead of time and decide if you need to take another shot.

One of the best things (and most necessary if you ask me) to have with a digital camera is image stablization which yours may not have if it is ''only'' a 5mp camera. With that it makes picture-taking 1000% easier. With my cell-phone camera I don't even try... it's just not worth it. The only thing I use that for is if I am parking in a parking lot I will take the pictures of the license plates of the cars that are beside me in case my car gets damaged. Good luck to you. Thanks Zelo

I have a digital camera also. I have not learned how to use it yet either. I have only had it a short time and have not had the time to mess with it much yet. It has low picture quality also.
